  1. I heard the interview with Lou this afternoon and the guy sounds like he's fed up. I feel for the guy, and while I don't disagree with the decision to start Lack, I think this is highly disrespectful to a guy who deserves some respect. Where does this leave Lui mentally now when Lack stumbles? If there were even a shred of a chance that Lui could be traded this off-season, this situation does nothing but hurt it. I have a feeling that at the end of the season, Lui's going to stop being the nice guy and make things difficult for Gillis and the team. Then again, maybe Gillis is trying to piss Lui off so much that he simply decides to hold out next season in order to void the contract. Maybe Gillis' statement that "there are ways around NTC's" is playing out in that regard.
  2. The Pens prospect strength is in their D-men coming up. Maatta should be our big ask. It was noted recently that Pens longtime broadcaster Mike Lange mentioned to a writer that Maatta is the best Pens D-man prospect he's seen in 40 years. Not sure if that means Maatta is that good or that the Pens have never really had a grade "A" defence prospect. FWIW, on the Pens HFBoards, many saying that he is an untouchable on that team.
  3. So trade a star for a third liner and an overpaid pylon? I'd actually be open to Myers plus, but think we can do much better for cheaper. So no thanks.
  4. On the Pens pages over at HFBoards, they actually list Maatta as one of their untouchables. I also read today where there play-by-play guy Mike Lange said that Maatta is the best defence prospect he's seen on the Pens in 40 years. Bennett also seems to be extremely highly valued. I've seen neither of them play so I really don't know what their value might be. Sutter seems to be the designated trade fodder du jour as they basically can't get rid of him fast enough and have him in pretty well every trade scenario.
  5. Mike Gillis needs to phone Holmgren right now and tell him that Giroux and Kesler would be the Flyers Kryptonite to Crosby and Malkin for years to come, and that Simmonds and Couturier are truly a small price to pay for such a powerful element.
  6. I hear ya. I guess I'm really concerned that Gillis will not be capable of pulling this off and will end up settling for quantity over quality. I would take having a hole at second line centre (i.e. not getting back a centerman in any Kesler deal) in the very short term if it meant we got back a future #1 D-man or a couple of top flight forward prospects (such as a Mantha) that are younger but have a high probability of being stars 5 years down the road. Outside of the twins and Kes, this team has nothing but third and fourth line players. We need quality.
  7. So hearing on the Team 1040 that LeBrun is saying the Canucks are demanding a second line centerman around the age of 25 in any Kesler deal. LeBrun apparently hearing this from team sources around the league. This is exactly what I was worried about with Gillis, limiting his trade options with very specific and high demands. Why limit our options to only teams that have a 25 year old second line centerman? Wouldn't Gillis be able to get better and potentially higher quality prospects from teams that would look at Kes as the missing piece of a Stanley Cup run, in which case, why would those teams give up their current younger centerman? Wouldn't Gillis consider parting with Kes if he could get a future number one stud d-man? Instead of sitting back and waiting for offers, I would hope that Gillis is proactively trying to find solutions to get some quality young players, including packaging other players (Edler, Garrison, Hansen...), instead of waiting for the best offer. I realize that it's LeBrun hearing from league sources, but he's pretty well connected so I don't really doubt his info.
  8. Maybe I am underestimating Pouliot and Despres as they both project as top 4 defencemen. Sutter on the other hand is what he is, a third line centre. My concern with Pouliot and/or Despres is that in some of the info I've read up on them, they seem to both fall into the high risk/high reward category, and in my view, if we're trading a player of Kes' stature then we need to be getting back a future stud D-man or offensive prospect. We also have enough third line centre's coming up through the system in Horvat and Gaunce, so I just don't see the need for a Sutter. In my view, Gillis needs to be going big and maybe try to package Kes in the offseason with whatever pieces are necessary to get someone like Seth Jones or a couple of top offensive prospects...someone like Mantha. With 29 other teams lining up for a shot at Kes, surely Gillis should be able to leverage that, especially with teams like the Pens and Flyers.
  9. If all Gillis gets back for Kes is a !@#$% Sutter, a young D-man and a pick, I'll be first in line at Home Depot to buy all their pitch-forks and torches.
  10. Denying a trade 1 week before the trade deadline is what one should expect them to do, and could mean anything from there's absolutely no truth to the rumours to where there's smoke there's fire.
  11. You may be right. But as stated during the first intermission by McIntyre, Kes is a generational player that doesn't come around everyday. There would likely be 29 teams lining up for a shot at a 30 year old who scores 30 goals, skates like the wind, hits, kills penalties, plays on the PP and is an annual Selke nominee. At the very least, a great GM should be able to leverage all that interest into a much better deal. I refuse to believe that if Holmgren in Philly caught wind that the Pens were going after Kes, that he wouldn't jump into the fray big time.
  12. Uhm, OK? Nice first post by the way. Now go back to bed or mommy will be mad.
  13. This post from Fig from one of the other Kesler trade threads flames the fires even more: Where there's smoke...
  14. So why would Gillis bail on his between periods interview tonight? To avoid getting asked the question? I mean, he could just say it's BS if asked.
  15. Very good read on Daniel's scoring problems and the stats surrounding his play the last couple of years. Interesting it doesn't necessarily blame the Keith elbow, but it doesn't rule it out either. I'm sure glad Mike Gillis rushed to give him a 4 year 28 million deal before the season started, given the statistics showing he's fallen off the map go back two years. http://www.theglobea...rticle17107221/ The statistical analysis comparing him to past and present NHL'ers shows just how drastic Daniels' decline has been. You can read it here (as a spreadsheet): http://www.theglobea...pct-change.xlsx
  16. You need to consider the context of my post, which is that IF we're going to be trading core players like Kes, Edler...etc, then it better be for nothing less than what was mentioned in the post I originally quoted, which was the chance to draft a number one centre or a true number one D-man stud (which I might add we've never had). Aim high and go big I say.
  17. Surprised to see teams like Chicago and Philly as being older. I should have worded my response better. I was more referring to the age of the core group.
  18. The revisionist history that goes on in these forums is fun to read. The team has struggled for half a season you say? I say they've struggled for 2 1/2 seasons, been swept in the first round of the playoffs two straight years and are on the verge of completely missing the playoffs this season. All their core players are in serious decline, the team is one of the oldest in the league, the teams' trade options have been limited by the number of NTC's they have, and the prospect pool, while improved in the last couple of years, is still not deep enough. Finally the GM, who is desperate to chase the dream for another year or two at the expense of the longer term benefit of this team goes out and signs an old school coach who clearly does not fit the type of players and game this team has been built around. Everyone here, including myself, might be clueless, but it doesn't take a PHD to see what has and is happening with this team right now and where it might be headed if our GM continues to chase the dream while our assets with the value needed to transform this team to the next generation of Canucks continue to decline in value.
  19. We've been trying to trade him for two years so that clause is moot. Regardless of what Lui wants, and I do believe he wants out, he's not going anywhere for a while given nobody has wanted to take on that contract .
