Or he'll sulk for the remaining 22 games. Hope he'll play pissed though.

If she isn't singing already, the fat lady is at least humming!!
-
Given the team hadn't won a damn thing, it kind of makes the big stink the media in the US made over his shoot-out goals look a little stupid now.

Was Kes holding an ice pack on his left hand at the bench there?
-
Kes is a beauty. Talk about doing everything out on the ice. He's even making saves now. And people on these boards want Gillis to trade Kes??
-
Amen. This would be a good hockey trade. Works for Detroit as they can become a true contender with Kes, and works for us as our retool is then done in 2 to 3 years as opposed to what the Oilers and Flames are going through. Just not sure MG has the balls to pull this type of deal off.
-
This concerns me if this were somehow true. Given the corner Gillis has painted himself into with respect to not approaching players with NTC's, the only valuable assets we have available to trade are the exact players we need to retool around in Kassian, Tanev, and Horvat. Gillis trading youth and picks to try to keep the dream alive for another couple of years is my biggest fear.
-
Dear God, we can only hope the Aquilini isn't tired of all the ribbing he's getting from his buddies down at the Vancouver Club about how sad this team is and that he isn't in Gillis' ear pushing him to make a deal at the deadline to "help" us make the playoffs.

Yeah, Gina ain't moving to Calgary.

Damn! The Luongo belly flop by Price. Should have tried to poke check him.

So this thread is about a guy who heard from another guy that something might be in the works? Got it.

Sochi Olympics 2014! Official "Olympic Discussion" thread.

Wow, that USA vs Russia was a great game. After watching the shootout, I wonder if Babcock will go with Price in net the rest of the way only because of Lui's iffy shootout (real or perceived) record over the years. Personally I think he's been much better at it the last couple of years so will be interesting to see what happens. -
Good to see Gaunce doing well and playing on a first line. I thought he looked pretty good in pre-season here and he certainly knows where to go on the ice, but he looked slow in certain situations. My question for anyone that's followed him is this...Is his skating good enough to get him a full-time role in the NHL?

Thank you. I'm already tired of the "new coach new system" excuse. New coach new system is also hurting the Jets this year right?

Really MG? For a 34 year old with 6 more years left on his deal? Or an overpaid, over injured Gaborik? Moulson and Vanek are good players but 30 year olds with rich contract demands are not what this team should be going with. I don't really believe these rumours, but my biggest fear with MG is that he takes the easy route again and instead of changing the core by way of trade, he goes out and signs an expensive 30 plus year old free agent because it doesn't cost him anything other than the owners money and cap space going forward. If Gillis goes this route, this teams' dark ages are nigh!

And that's my greatest fear.

While I hope that real change is coming, given Gillis' post-game comments covered in the Province, looks like he intends to die with this core. “We’re going to be all right,” Mike Gillis valiantly predicted. His message was a simple one. Don’t expect this team to base any decisions on what has happened in the first six weeks of 2014, no matter how miserable they were. He has the backing of owner Francesco Aquilini, who visited his team here, and is as upbeat as he’s ever been. He is as convinced as his general manager that these Canucks, the ones who would make death row look good, are not real the Canucks. As for our assistant captain Daniel: “We have to realize where we are,” Daniel Sedin said. “There are only 22 games left. We have to take care of business after the break. It’s going to be a fresh start for everyone. “I think we’ve started to turn the corner during the last few games, and that’s the good sign.” When asked about this team blowing third period leads: “It shouldn’t happen,” Daniel said. “We have to do a better job defending leads. It’s happened before this season. “That’s going to have to stop if we’re going to make the playoffs.” It really shows the mindset of this team when we hear statements like "we're turning the corner" and "defending the lead" after losing your 7th game in a row and 15th in the last 18 games. I just don't know what to say anymore when I hear crap like this coming from this team.

Actually not that far fetched an idea if one thinks about it. Buying out Daniel might piss off Hank to the point where he requests a trade, and in one fell swoop you've changed the core of this team and opened up $14 Million in cap space. This just might be crazy enough to work.
-
Scary isn't it? Only 12 points behind BUT they have two games in hand and play us two more times.
-
The moral of the story is that successful teams are constantly bringing young blood into their rosters in order to mitigate these exact issues. Even in Stanley Cup winning seasons, teams like the Hawks and Bruins are bringing in young and eager young players. Our roster just feels so stale.

Looking at it now, I think AV was a genius to get what he got out of this lineup. Seems to me that most of the core players had career bests under AV, who designed their offensive and defensive systems around his personnel and put them in positions for greatest success. In NY, AV has had to make adjustments to his systems to accommodate the players he has. Torts has done none of that here. And if you read this article, they're quite happy there in NY without all the drama. http://nypost.com/2014/02/04/rangers-should-be-thrilled-to-be-rid-of-tortorella-drama/

I remember that well. His infamous "we haven't exposed them" rant and which in hindsight was bang on. It's also why I've believed for some time that the leadership group of this team had to change.
-
We do have a chance at him, as do all non-playoff teams. But yeah, realistically we should be thinking Jake, Leon and Sam.
-
Heck, if we can get anyone in the top 6, I'll consider this season a success. Leon Draisaitl, Jake Virtanen or Sam Bennett would look damn good in green and blue.
