  1. I also still can’t believe it’s not butter.
  2. I can’t believe this thread hasn’t been locked. Season hasn’t even started and I’m already tired of these posters.
  3. I'm glad he's not going to be a lame duck going into their 50th. Would be interesting to see what peoples reactions will be about Jimbo in about a year or so when we find out if we lose our unprotected first rounder.
  4. So Bobby is fired. But really they just eliminated his position. But does anyone believe that they will be able to entice anyone of the ilk they are suggesting? I'd think that someone that has "a vast understanding and knowledge of scouting and recruitment in the global market, maximize the advantages of a sport performance model, and embraces youth development" might be able to pick and choose their next job location. The reality will likely be someone with considerably less of all of this. Just more words from Mallett. Kind of reminds me of when the Whitecaps kept talking about becoming just like Ajax FC in terms of philosophy, youth development...etc.
  5. I agree with you actually. I don't think they'll be sold anytime soon, simply because some of these large revenue streams, especially from expansion. Unfortunately means that we'll continue to see a team who's mandate is not to win it all, but to win just enough to keep fans coming to games. Not sure how sustainable this "vision" quite honestly. There needs to be changes at the highest levels of this team, including ownership, for things to change. Otherwise what we've seen for a decade now is what we'll continue to get. When expansion teams are passing you by, you'd think this ownership group might notice.
  6. 100% Italian. First generation born here in Canada.
  7. This is what I've been saying for a long time. It doesn't matter who the manager is or what his "plan" is, but a small market budget is a small market budget. Problem is the rest of the league is leaving the Caps behind. I've actually been thinking more and more about where this all might be heading down the road. After a decade of little success, attendance starts to plummet because who wants to go see this team lose in a 70% empty cavernous stadium. Eventually owners may decide they just won't be able to get the investment return they have been for the last 10 years and they sell the team. Hopefully they'd be local with deep pockets. Hmmm...wonder who that could be?
  8. Sad to hear that Brock's dads' cancer has come back. Can someone please find a God-Damned cure???

  9. This should be no surprise to people. I mean given the turnover of players and staff in the offseason. It's been a skeleton management staff that run a frugal operation on behalf of their wealthy owners' investment. Nothing wrong with that, except when that becomes the entire mission of this team. Has been for years. All those slogans painted on walls in the dressing rooms, all the talk of building through the academy...all crap. Is there any team in MLS that has brought fewer academy players through to the big team? Going back to the Camillo fiasco tells you all you need to know about how this organization has been run. Throw in a general lack of sustained success over 10 years, a bottom of the league payroll, the way they handled the woman's soccer team issues, lack of a Director of Scouting...just the overall vibe of the team hasn't sat well with me since Camillo left. Sadly, I don't have high hopes for this team going forward with this ownership group. And I really like MDS and what he's trying to do. He's convinced this ownership to hire a chief scout, who's sole role will be to scour the world for players. Good first step. What a novel idea for a professional soccer team whose shallow marketing slogan has been: Our All. Our Honour. Makes me sick every time I hear or see it. I hope MDS is given the time to do what needs to be done, but ultimately I don't have much faith in this team given he has to work within the same structure that Robbo and others have had to deal with. Same ownership. Same management. Same middling results. Sigh. Rant over.
  10. Finally some real depth on Defence. If the numbers are accurate, then good job JB.
  11. Only the Canucks can miss the playoffs 5 of the last 6 seasons and still have cap issues.

@Brad Marchand  Is a team that can’t spend a lot of money and is propped up by the rest of the league.  My grandmother can be a GM of that club and not do worse.....and she passed away a decade ago.

He can't be 18 forever, let's just wait a few seasons.

we have our own 18 year old Sam Bennett his name is Jake Virtanen.

  13. It's not a rumour until he buys a house here.
  14. I think you're missing my point. I probably didn't articulate it very well. JB's job is to build the best team for long term sustained success. Not just to make the playoffs next one or two seasons. I agree that the players you listed are our core today, but who's to say that's the case in say 3 - 5 seasons. If the last few years of futility have taught this anything, it should be that you can't give away picks, especially high picks, to try to obtain short-term success. It's the reason we're stuck in the pit of despair now.
  15. I think that's the point people have a problem with. The Canucks aren't a playoff team and by the time our core is ready for primetime, Miller will have played out his deal and not even be a Canuck anyway. So what's the point of this deal when draft picks are the currency in today's NHL and 1st rounders in particular are gold and usually not handed out unless they're part of a deal the brings back a very good player, high pick and/or prospect/or cap relief. To trade our 1st round pick for a middle 6 forward imo, especially for a team still rebuilding it's higher end prospect pool, is something I just can't get my head around.
  16. I don't even really blame JB. It really doesn't even matter who's running the team as the GM any more. JB is now a lame-duck GM who knows he'll be turfed if they don't make the playoffs this upcoming season. This is how perennially bad franchises are run. Meanwhile, the franchises that are well run and remain competitive year after year, like the Bolts, are able to make deals like this.
  17. Brian Burke just on the Canucks (I'm paraphrasing here): "This is the wrong move for this team and I put the blame strictly on the ownership group there". Ugh.
  18. Wow. A !@#$% first rounder? Just as I feared...a save my job type of moveby Benning. Tampa doing cartwheels. We help them with their cap crunch AND send a conditional first rounder. Thank you slum lord. Hope your two home playoff dates in the first round in the next couple of years are worth the extra years you continue to add to the rebuild.
  19. The only highlights I’ve seen of him so far show him basically putting his head down and bull-rushing the defence to get to the net. Didn’t look at anyone around him. Which is great, but like Virtanen has discovered, he’s not going to be able to do that against NHL defencemen on a regular basis. Looking forward to seeing him develop, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t already thought about his head space after the first stretch of games where his ice time has been reduced or he’s parked in the press box. I can already see the headlines from the local sports hacks about the rumblings of him wanting to go back home. I’m looking forward to following his development this season.
  20. Congrats Petey!!!  And giving a shout out to Botch? What a classy kid already.

I am so glad for our new humble star and glad that the league in general knows talent when they see it.
