  1. What Horvats plus/minus says is that he is scored upon, more than he scores...............so yes, as a 1B centerman, he is sub par defensively.
  2. I think Gaudette and a 2nd gets you that 3rd line center.... maybe add a prospect not named Woo, Rathbone, Lind, Podkolzin, or DiPietro
  3. Jimmy....beam up! LOL, I have to disagree with you....this year is too late, too much risk The point is, you get Horvat quality out of the top 10, and the risk is too great to just flip for a 3rd liner So, for me, it depends on where the pick is, and who is offered........... No willie nillie, shoot from the hip generalization....................where is the pick? who is the guy offered? Maybe a top 10 protected...........but you are not getting what you want with that condition.... Oh, yes, and no oldies.................. 24 or younger, maybe 25, which makes it really paradoxal, because why would a team trade a player they are trying to find? You draft those babies
  4. I am quoting you twice on this DeNiro as it pulled something else out of me Again, it is over your last comment So, as much as I love Huggy and Pettie, and the group of them There still is not that game controller....that guy that can pull us out all by himself They do not grow on trees and every team is searching for him and they do not give them up easily So the way to get them, is too draft them, and "Usually" them come out of the top 10 So, you just do not give up those picks......... That is what I think you are saying, even if not generational......you don't give up those types of picks unless it is a huge over payment
  5. Giant love around here IBatch I love all the opinions around here. Sometimes, I even change my opinion because of them I do not want people to chill and all we have is Vanilla It would be so boring I don't like to Troll But I have written posts I don't believe in, to get a response Because I wondered if I was right, so I wrote my opinion based on the otherside Aka....trading Boeser........I actually got pretty scorched for it...lol I have one now about Hughes........I want people to defend him, or die trying It makes me more open to other posters idea's Personally....and nothing personal......but just to say, we are just fans, and should not have an opinion Pi$$es me off, as they take my money to pay for those players, so I think I am entitled to at least have that I have also coached for many years, and played for like a 1000 years, so I think I have some understanding but in saying all that........I like your opinions, Jimmy's, Joe's, Deb's etc....... It beats staring at 4 walls for the rest of my life......... So spout away, give me your best! I still love ya all man!
  6. I agree with your wording I guess I seen it as Benning using last year as a focal point (a couple years ago) But now, I think the "core" has changed, because there is no Marky, Tanev, Toffoli, Ferland etc...... So, really the young guys are now the focal point, where as 2 years ago, it was more a collage old and young Now I see it more "Young" before we are done... Just wording........but it is a continuation as you pointed out
  7. Exactly this! The unfortunate truth is, we are are into another rebuild, like it or not! So Benning has to do exactly as you suggest, and not sell picks, but rather gather picks instead. Here one last thing, that I forgot to add in our next core...............I believe that Mcewen should be in it as a 4th liner, and that people should get off of Jake and accept him as a 4th liner...........I am of the opinion Gaudette does not fit our rebuild, I hope he proves me wrong! The other thing is Green needs to start rolling 4 lines, as I think he will burn out his top 2 lines and Hughes if he does not! Prorate McEwen and Jakes hits last night to Millers minutes and they both out hit Miller, which my only point is, if you are going to utilize Mac and Jake, you have to give them the time.
  8. Maybe I am wrong....... But, here is where I see us today........... Our Core is Boeser, Pettersson, Hughes, Podkolzin, Lind, Demko, Juolevi and Hoglander....................Maybe Rathbone?????? Maybe Lind?????? I honestly think Miller will fly as soon as a UFA, and I see Horvat aging out before we have all the pieces So, it comes down to what Benning does next Does he stand pat and develop the core, or does he go all in and try to add to create a veteran core now? I think he was starting to do that, when he added Toffoli, but he was in-between, and with the cap and expansion, got caught I also think he made some errors, that just caught up to him, and there was nothing he could do about it...aka Eriksson, and Baertschi Not to mention the Luongo penalty, and Ferland's injury, who he never should have signed................ so I think his plan got derailed But Imagine, if we had Ferland, Tanev Markstrom, and Toffoli..........the group surely would have been contending But....now is now, and we are not ready to do the heavy lifting So what does Benning do?
  9. Hey, there, did you ever hear about this Pettersson guy or his friend Hughes? They came to visit their friend Boeser, and tell them about these 2 guys Hoglander and Podkolzin. They are all getting togther at the draft to see who the Canucks pick next!
  10. I don't disagree that this year is different, but still think there are picks that stand out But more so.......remember how Gillies moved picks to get that last piece so we could compete at the top?....Well, that is what you are suggesting, except we are no way near at the same level as where the Canucks were at that time. I would far more like to run this season out, and make our 1st and 2nd round picks this year, and then after sifting through the free agents, then look where we are at........if at that time, we are still that one guy short, well then make a move. Take a look at Florida this year......they had cap space and made some great off season moves........they are now competitive Let's see where we are at........ Hoglander, Juolevi, Podkolzin, and maybe Tryamkin, Rathbone and Lind are all added or more experienced.....we are still in rebuild
  11. No offense Jimmy But do you think Carlo stops the soft goals, or adds secondary scoring? Or bad deployment?
  12. I agree on coaching Jimmy, and before we go and start selling off draft picks, I want to see what a coaching change does. Truthfully, I want to see us clear up our cap space before adding any players, and would like to wait and clear that space organically in the summer This year seems to be a write off, and if we are going to add a significant player, it needs to be just that. IMO, you are not getting much of an upgrade over Sutter by way of trade, especially when we are tight to the cap.
  13. I think you are missing the point of the quote Jimmy The guys listed above Boeser, Pettersson, Millre, Edler, Schmidt, and Holtby were all zero or plus players for the game, these guys were not. I did mention coaching as well, so I think you kind of took this one part and quoted it out of context. Maybe I was not clear in my point, but it was there in the box score for the game, for anyone to see. As much as I loved seeing Pettersson scoring goals, his line was a minus tonight. The bigger question, and the one that should be discussed is why are we loosing games? Is it the players, the goaltending or the coaching? I actually do not think it is the players, as much as the later 2 (Goaltending and deployment) I am just not sure what to do about it? I actually think our players are as good as anyone's (within reason)
  14. Well, here is my 2 cents worth - Virtanen did not loose us the game.............he was not on for a goal, either way - Gaudette did not loose us the game - McEwen did not loose us the game - Beagle did not loose us the game - Roussel did not loose us the game - Sutter did not loose us the game - Pearson did not loose us the game - Hoglander did not loose us the game - Horvat did not loose us the game - Benn did not loose us the game - Hughes did not loose us the game - Juolevi did not loose us the game - Myers did not loose us the game That leaves Boeser, Pettersson, Miller, Edler, Schmidt and Holtby, who collectively got beat by their checks That is up to Green to figure out............he is the coach, it is his job to figure it out IMO, this year our goaltending, if average, would have given us 2 more wins, which makes us .500 winning percentage (10 - 10 -2 ) If we get Markstrom type saves, we take 3 more wins............. .550 winning percentage (11 -9 - 2 ) That is our Achilles heel this year......... that and coaching decisions What scares me the most is who the Canucks are using as our PK personel.....................Beagle, Roussel, Sutter and Miller No young guys apprenticing................so in 2 years, who do we have to kill penalties?
  15. It is really to early to tell............ I need these question answered and it is too early so far Q 1................Does Juolevi continue to improve to the point of playing top 4 minutes? Q 2................Does Rathbone continue to improve to the point of playing top 6 minutes? Q 3................Does Edler continue to regress through the remaining part of the year? These are answers that will not be completely answered until late in the season.........so I said yes re-sign him, but with a caviat
