Value of Dougie Hamilton (Discussion/Proposal)
J.I.A.H.N replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sure, I will give him a chance............he is not crap But Hamilton is way better And signing Hamilton, lets you move Schmidt for improvements else where Or you keep Schmidt if Seattle takes Myers...............Hamilton, Schmidt, and Tryamkin doesn't make you tingly inside -

I love your positive attitude DI.....I hope I am wrong.......long season otherwise As I am sure you are aware.......I am on the Tryamkin wagon, so there is our Defensive Dman I also do not think for a second that Tampa will move Cernak, he is kind of like a upgraded version of Mayfield on the Island But maybe Larson if all else fails.........I like Josh Manson too Bottom line, I would just love to finish up the RHD side Hamilton, Larson, Tryamkin or Hamilton, Schmidt, Tryamkin or Hamilton, Tryamkin, Myers This would all be decent RHD side, which would allow Woo to really develop or force us to call him up, which is ideally what you want to happen I am also watching for another RHD with our first, if in our area With Hughes, Juolevi and Rathbone, we have to wait and see what we have there, especially with Truscott and Jurmo, behind them........HM...Utunen????? It would be a perfect scenario, IMO -

Thanks Hammer.......I get your position I am looking at this being a trade of Hamilton and asset for Schmidt Its a upgrade and a asset acquisition Hamilton has a track record of alot of pretty good seasons.........I don't think he will slip -

I compare Hughes Offensive game to Hamilton's more rounded game. Yes Hughes scores more points, but also gives up more Hamilton has alot to offer, and is alot better than Schmidt I am not married to the idea, but wanted to get perspective on it Hamilton would make us bigger and better.......also keep in mind when Comparing Hughes and Hamilton is that Hughes is still cost controlled because he is a RFA, where as Hamilton is not We need to get bigger, everywhere and although ELC are king of the Cap era Highly skilled Dmen are too! For the small upgrade in cost, we get a better player and we get that asset we acquire when we trade Schmidt I am not sure Benning has the skill to make this move, but it would really help us, IMO -

Maybe we are having too many group hugs any ways I thought we are trying to win games? -
Dougie Hamilton 27 years old RHD 6'6" 229 lbs +/- Solid and in the positive My suggestion is we sign him as a UFA this summer, if we can move one of Myers or Schmidt More so Schmidt, who will bring in a kings ransom or slightly less Cost? Hmmm? 7.5 Million Covid contract Do we do it if we can clear cap? I would much rather have him that OEL that Benning was going after last summer

I find it very refreshing to see that CDC recognizes that our stars have not been stars I will say however, I feel it is our even strength attack that has really stymied Miller, Pettie and Horvat, and the way we transition the puck through the neutral zone I personally hate it.

The Canucks 1/3 of the way through the season (discussion)
J.I.A.H.N replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Canucks Talk
@BCNate Great post Nate..... Just for the record, and you don't have to agree with me, but Tryamkin will be in that #4 spot RD But I see it much the same way as you overall -
Brock, Hoglander, and Motte for sure I am also really liking this Juolevi kid Unsung Hero Award..........100% Myers.......Good or Bad, the guy gives it!

What have you seen through the first 1/3 of the season.......... It has been such a mixed bag, but over all it have been terrible What have I noticed? 1. The PP blocks out Pettersson alot, as the play seems to go down the left side alot, Go figure. It just seems Pettie is loaded, and the puck comes to him late. It also seems that he is stationary far too much on the Power Play. 2. The other thing I have noticed this year, is how the team seems to want to set up on the attack at even strength, and funny enough, it has been guys like Sutter, who has attacked during the rush. Here is another little tid bit, but is it amazing that Hoglander, skates hard and attacks, and funny enough gets so many chances. We cry because Virtanen does not do it, but can you remember that last time Horvat or Pettersson scored on the rush, or while in motion, inside the the ofensive zone. 3. Too many fly-bys, all over the ice. It does not matter where the Canucks are in terms of amount of hits, but I just keep noticing good opportunities passed up. 4. The puck keeps bouncing over our sticks. Or being fumbled....alot of double clutching by Dmen (especially Schmidt) 5. Not much center support for Dman in our zone. Especially 3rd man back Culprits that are having trouble...........Miller, Pettersson, Horvat, Hughes, Demko, Holtby Gaudette, Schmidt, and Virtanen Pretty much stands to reason we are not doing so well.............go figure! Players, playing to their ability...........the rest Again......stands to reason why we are having so much trouble. Now, yes, we lost some good players, but most of what I have commented on, above, is on individual performances and play. Not on whether we are out manned or not.

[Report] Johan Larsson suspended 2 games
J.I.A.H.N replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
No, No NO! You are not allowed to hit in hockey! And I do not have to get out of the way! Just say NO! -
I totally agree Nux It is how all the great franchises work There are all sorts of things we should be doing Toronto started signing guys to 1 year deals, then flipping at the TDL Montreal all in their day were not shy of trading veterans before their past due date, there by getting great returns Yes, so that should be part of our "Golden Plan" When I wrote this thread, it was because, some of the prospects are falling through the cracks on me, and I am not up on them It stands to reason, that some of our other CDC's might have a better handle, on who the real prospects are.......aka Who are the prospects that will be here in 3 years.....because IMO, that is when we will be nearing the apex. I had almost listed every prospect we have, but I fall short on those prospects just drafted, or a guy like McDonough, who I personally think might make it So that was the reason for this, was to see where other people see our youth in 3 years............ Maybe Virtanen and Gaudette stick, maybe they don't, but if they don't who, if any come back in a trade. (Bennett?) as an example, because that adds to that list as do Virtanen and Gaudette who are not on it. Nor McEwen for that matter. (God, I hope I don't piss off his mother!) Then there is the question of our 1st and 2nd round picks from 2021 and 2022, or any we pick in trades for our guys like Pearson/Sutter etc...... For me, I was trying to get everyone involved in a discussion, and see where it leads....aka, your question, which is relevant. It is kind of why I am pissed off at Benning for not being more careful this last off season......letting Tanev and Toffoli go and getting nothing for them, just kills me. Especially because we knew we were taking a step back, and if those guys would have been moved earlier at the TDL with 50% retained we could have even have had more assets.............. I digress, but as you know, all these issues are inter-twinned So, I am interested, is there any of the A?B or lesser prospects on my list that jump out at you? Or is there anyone you would have included on being here off of the parent club, that I did not include... Who and why, to all the above......Fwew !

You know, that is a fair opinion. For me, I seen some things in Tryamkin's game, that I thought were unique and almost one of a kind As you point out, it was not that he was a first pairing defenseman I seen him as a 2nd pairing Dman, and still do I would like to be have the opportunity to be proven wrong Now, I am not saying he is as good as Tanev But his talents lay more inline with Tanev defensively than say Hughes offense meaning, I do not expect him to come in and be part of the attack IMO, though, Tanev would have been a 1/2 on pretty much any team with a little more offense, an not being injured all the time which for the Canucks started to wear thin So, in my opinion, Tryamkin will be more durable and similar in style IMO, he is something we need But, lol, yeah, he still is front and center in my mind Wet dreams might be a little strong....unless you are talking about his wife It has occurred to me, that he could come over and crap the bed It is a risk, for sure!

Thanks Silly Goose It seems some want to re-write my thread to their agenda The whole point of targeting 3 years from now, was to hear what people had to say about our young guys, whether they be already playing in the NHL or in some far off land You got that and answered appropriately......... Maybe I come across as a know it all, but I seriously want to hear about what I have missed. Not that Tryamkin "might" be somewhere else for crying out loud People just tell me who you got your eye on and why That is what this thread is about Who do you think makes the team, or you think might have a decent chance Thanks again Goose!

Well, hopefully this is mostly a positive discussion, But I am wondering who you think of our 25 and under Younger Group + Tryamkin will be on the team in 3 years. It should be based on who you think the Canucks may trade, who is on the team now, and who your guts says will be on the team in 3 years.I will hi-light my group, but you can either hi-lie or list. Please share any thoughts you have on our young ones and any other thoughts on this you might have. Tryamkin is included, because, well......It is my Thread! Canucks Horvat (25), Hawryluk (25), Motte (25), Bailey (25), Demko (25), Virtanen (24), McEwen (24), Gaudette (24), Chatfield (24), Boeser (23), Pettersson (22), Juolevi (22), Hughes ((21) Hoglander (20) Taxi squad Rafferty (25), Michaels (25), Brisebois (23), DiPietro (21), Rathbone (21) Utica Kielly (25), Teves (25), Jasek (23), Lind (22), Elliot (23), Gadjovich (22), Lockwood (22), Focht (21), Woo (20), Silvos (19) Prospects (A/B) Tryamkin (26), Karlsson (21), McDonough (21), Costmar (19), Podkolzin (21), Zlodeyev (18) Lesser Prospects Zhukenov (23), Palmu (23), Manukyan (22), Malone (20), Plasek (20), Utunen (20), Thiessen (20), Keppan (19), Persson (19), Jurmo (18), Kunz (18), Truscott (18) I am thinking Virtanen and Gaudette are traded at some point. My guys I am watching but don't know enough about are McDonough, Malone, Utunen, Truscott, but we shall see. Am I missing anyone? Who is the sleeper?

You know Dib The 2 biggest culprits of that are IMO, Horvat and Virtanen. At least Edler hits on a very consistent basis, where as the other 2 leave me wanting. IMO, aggression can be shown several different ways, but when your captain and your fastest player, do not, it just pisses me off. Now, I know Virtanen will hit, but he passes up on too many really quality opportunities, as does Horvat. So before I am going to complain about Edler, who really has made some great hits over the years, I would like to see others answer the bell first. Just my opinion, but in Horvat's case it is blatant, and he is our friggin captain!
