Rewarding Alex Edler (Proposal)
J.I.A.H.N replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sorry for the formatting........could not fix it! -
Ok, this is somewhat of a stretch (I know!), but thought it could be pulled off...............maybe????? I am of the mind that, we have no replacement for Alex Edler, nor should it be a priority for next year, in fact, he probably has a couple of decent years left, albeit with a lesser role. So here is the proposal............Aqualini approaches Edler, and says "If you agree to wave your NMC at the TDL, we will re-sign you, to a series of 1 year contracts, at ?, if you agree to retire when, you can't play anymore, and have your minutes taken by another player. Further more Alex, we will find you a position in the Canucks Org, once you do retire. (maybe PR, maybe player development, maybe scouting, etc....) Now this deal would be with Aqualini, so that a new GM could not just circumvent the agreement. IMO, Alex Edler at the TDL at 50% is worth a very good draft pick.......either a 1st or a 2nd and 3rd....so IMO, there is a huge benefit for the Canucks to do this. It would also not be a 35 years of age contract, so the Canucks would not have to carry it forward. Edler has said he will not wave, but given a hand shake agreement with Aqualini, he might go for it, if it cemented his future with the Canucks. Alex is very loyal. I would guess, if a contract extension was discussed, before his contract was actually over, then they would be fully within their rights to discuss it. He would not be the first player to ever re-sign with the club that traded them.

I see Pearson as around 3 to 3.5 Max. in a Covid market. Home discount of 2.75 t0 3.25 in a Covid market. In a non Covid market...somewhere around 3.75 to 4.5................but we are in a Covid market....so.............. But in saying all that, Pearson is worth resigning at the Home discount rate.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
J.I.A.H.N replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Here is the thing....if you think our trash for your trash is going to turn this team around, you are sadly mistaken Virtanen + a pick or Virtanen and a prospect gets you something a little better than Jake Problem is everyone knows Jake has been benched for more than a few games.........................why would they over pay? As someone said earlier, if you were going to trade Jake, we should have traded him earlier........... Jimbo has a real problem doing that..............he never likes trading good for good............ always trying to one up the other GM, instead of just making a good hockey trade Jake was a 18 and 18 man last year, good stats for a lower 1st line player..........this year not so much Why trade your depth for the sake of making a trade? -
[Proposal] Jake Virtanen for Tony Deangelo
J.I.A.H.N replied to Lil B From The Pack's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I totally understand what the Op is suggesting I do not think he is the right player for us to add, but I get it Turn over every rock........I agree OP Personally, my POV is Benning needs to bite the bullet and go purchase Tryamkin We need a RHD that can play with Hughes Now when I say get Tryamkin It only allows us 2 more options............... Either playing Tryamkin or Schmidt along side Hughes the other plays alongside Edler Now, the 3rd thing is Chatfield needs to platoon with another Dman and Juolevi needs ice time to develop -
I do not see him as a true number 1 I see him as an elite offensive defenseman I see #1 defensemen, as a player who is elite/very strong both offensively and defensively now someone else may disagree with my definition Tanev was the Ying to Hughes Yang Tanev is gone and we have not found that replacement That is not on Hughes Hughes is 20 years old..........relax on him, the team has plenty of problems Pretty much everyone of them was created by Benning
-
So you say because Karlsson never learned someone else can't? Sure he has issues............ Are you saying that another defensive scheme would not protect him more or a better defensive partner? or how about the forwards having a different attack or someone backchecked? I mean there are alot of reasons he is having problems age being one
-
Look man, Hughes is a small guy It normally take 3 or 4 years to learn defense in the NHL He has already got the offense figured out Give him some time
-
You do not trade talented young men like Hughes without exhausting every avenue. It is not even close to being that time. Stupid does not even remotely define what this post is!

The logic behind letting Tanev, Markstrom, and Toffoli walk

Just because CDC discusses it does not mean Benning did.................... Show me a quote from Benning or Minnesota or Boston -

You know, there is another issue that had some bearing on all this, and that is the signing of Ferland. IMO, Benning should be getting thank you cards from all 30 other GM's As, with Ferland's concussion history, we should have just stayed away from him. It was a calculated risk that backfired In essences it was like signing another Tanev, and Benning should have known better I think most of did............. Straws on a Camels back, but eventually...there are to many
