Evaluation Jake and Adam (Discussion)
J.I.A.H.N replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The reason I started this thread is I don't see Jake or Adam, being the type of player that works well on the 3rd line on a championship team and who can move up, when injury occurs. IMO, they are both lacking.........Jake, puts out zero energy, while Adam does not have the size or FO ability. ( That is over simplifying it, but that is their problem in a nutshell) IMO, what I want to see on the 3rd line, are players that are continually pushing play, always in your face. (Not like Roussel, but who are in the corners and coming out with the puck, will chase down a shoot in, and will make it damn tough on a regular basis) Now, in saying this, the players on this line are more of a hi-bred between a 2 line player, who has more offensive skill, and a 4th line energy line, who's job it is to crash and bash. In a perfect world Motte and McEwen are those types of players. So, in stating that, it underlines that we have not completed our rebuild. I am curious to see how Lind transforms, in his new role at center, as all reports are he is doing well, in a difficult transition. But, as we move forward, there is still a ton of work to do. I look back at that 7 -1 win, and what I took from it is that a 3rd line needs to step it up, once in a while and win a game, which is basically what Sutter and his crew did. But, it has to be every game. It has to be in their DNA. Which, is sadly missed from Jakes tool box. Absolutely he has the ability and if he played like Tom Wilson, he would be a force. But he does not, and basically refuses to accept that role. As for Adam, he is not big enough, and has not been able to improve his faceoff %, which he really needs to do, if he wants to be a 3rd line center. BUt, in short, I just don't see him as such. I do see him with the offensive tools a 3rd line center needs, and I do see the effort, I just don't see those other intangibles. Why bring it up now? Because, we far too often, run the pony until it collapses, instead of making the move before it falls. IMO, these players both have value, and would still be coveted by other teams. Why bring it up now? Because our top 2 lines are not far away from being solidified, and will be ready to compete soon, but if the 3rd and 4rth lines are not developed completely, we will always fall short of the Tampa Bay's and Washington's. I would also point out that Colorado, is building one extremely deep team, and have pushed into the upper echelon. Phili is not far away, and New York Rangers have put together a fine group of young players. And more closer to home, Edmonton is getting closer. It does not matter how they did it, only that they are there now, and to compete for the cup, we need to be able to compete with them. So, where do we need to improve? I would suggest it is the 3rd and 4th lines. When do we need to do it.....IMO, asap........ -

Yes, you are right, of course He had 18 and 18 last year, and I am still not happy with him there just seems to be something missing........intensity? I am just not sure, he will turn into that guy we need him to be but maybe he is....I just can't figure it out -
Honestly Man.......you are not getting it. We are talking about a 3/4/5/6 who is that because of skating and size he has the "IT" But this time around the Canucks were not in the position when he HAD to decide because his YEARS wages were in jeopardy..... The NHL was not a for sure......and the Canucks were not offering a 1 way contract Now this has been said many time , different ways, by different people Would you take a job that maybe not happen, and you might have to give up alot more than you are making at your current job? I doubt it very much........................so he stayed in Russia, as you would under the same conditions Now, the reasons why Vancouver were not offering more is that there may not have been a season and for his potential position it was not worth the risk of signing him to a 2 million dollar one way contract, because he may not even play, or he might not be good enough and because this is a covid year....they are not trying to give away the money...... Remember at that time they were also still chasing OEL for big money It is not 1 domino, it is a lot of different domino's

Funny AJ But seriously, what is your opinion? Can Big Mac take Jakes place? -
Hi All Great game today. 5 - 1 Van over Ottawa But as I was reading the PGT, I started asking myself, are Jake and Adam really good fits here? Do they have the potential to up their games? Now, I have been a supporter of both, but I wonder if they fit our teams Long Term plans? Let's start with Jake. What an enigma! Size, skill, and, and, and? But when he applies himself, he can be a very valuable asset, but does he want it bad enough? I do not see it on a game to game basis. Absolutely no swagger! Just none! But he takes a good picture! So are you (the fans) ready to accept his level of play? Personally, I am ready to move on, I find him too frustrating, too much of a waste of potential........ As for Adam, he is more of a disappointment for me, as we have been watching him through his college career, and into his 1st couple of professional seasons. and he showed so much promise, but, and that is a big BUT! I am not sure he is the guy for that 3rd line center long term, and as other players get closer to being available (Podkolzin and Lind), I am wondering if he is actually the right guy for our right wing? All and all, they are still NHL players, and could be 3rd line players, but just not our 3rd line players. To me, I would rather package them up, and see if we can upgrade in a 2 for 1 deal, if such a deal exists, it should be explored soon, before they show a continued history of their current level, or lack there of. Now, I realize there will be back lash from this, but far too often, we wait too long, and loose value, doing so. So convince me otherwise. I am not suggesting throwing them away, bit is there a payer out there, that would improve our team, and show more consistency, who is young ? A Couple of guys I was looking at are ..........Nick Kunin from Nash, Alex Wennberg both centers, both 3rd line kind of guys. Are there other that would interest you more, that are realistic targets? Anyways, hey, I would love to be convinced differently..........so please........convince me!

Phil...lol....I was joking! Love ya man!
-
Come on Phil, when was the last time you seen a dead body sneeze? And, I am not talking about your sex life! LOL
-
100% agree It is just an entity trying to survive, as it was designed to do
-
And you are right in all that Phil But it still goes whether it is an RNA virus or a DNA virus, that if the host dies, before it can replicate and spread...........that species of Virus dies
-
I read somewhere that successful viruses actually do not kill fast, but actually mutate to a point such as where we are today, where it may take 5 to 10 days, to actually show symptoms..........ones that kill too fast actually burn out, as people start shutting themselves in and not transferring the virus quick enough. That is why I said what I said.............if we got it and dropped dead immediately, it would not get far..............It is not doing that, obviously
-
Not to beat a dead horse.....But that is exactly what I said.......albeit simply WE did not listen, meant...........we did not stay at home, we travelled, we met in groups, we went to nursing homes, we flew across oceans, etc...... We did not stay home.............................aka we did not listen.....and when I say we, I mean man kind everywhere
-
What I said is true Phil Now we have mutations, because the virus moved around so freely in different countries My point is exactly what you said. We started out with 1 virus....no mutations If we could have stopped it early, before it mutated.....we would not have any But it spread..........from one community to another, from one country to another, and continued the evolution And every time, it jumps, it mutates, ever so slightly, eventually mutating enough to be of concern So as this virus took hold in different countries, it mutated enough to be identified Now,"IF" people would have all stayed home, then it would have died at that point and not had a chance to mutate but it had moved on before we could trace it, at the same time multiplying at a rate that made it impossible to catch Now we are at a point where the Vaccines developed are being questioned because the Virus has mutated enough not to be affected as much by the Vaccine, and that is now what they are worried about So, if we don't get that vaccine into the arms of enough people soon, we run the risk of having to start this all again or we could all staty home for a month and not go out and it would die out and not jump (That is not happening!) Not here anyways................China it does, because everyone listens for fear of being shot Correct me if I am wrong! Now I will repeat what I said at the end of that quote.............Because..........................."NO ONE LISTENED!" I do not see where I am wrong?????

So, 34.6 per hour? How does that compare with NHL guys? Anyone know a site where there is that info?

LOL....good point When I was young I used to box One day, I boxed a new kid, and every time I circled to the left, bam! He caught me with a round house I was just having trouble seeing it start.......and by the time I figured it out, he had hit me....... It did not take long before I stopped circling to the left...... My ear and jaw, thanked me!
-
totally agree with you But to underline the stated point....it is the player that gets hit that make the decision....... Here is my point in detail The guy that gets hit knows exactly where he is going, whether he will turn, duck, or what ever...... The opposing player is basically delayed and will be milli-seconds behind in the play When in close quarters like the Nikita hit, there is even less time for the opposing player to change direction This is actually why guys do change direction, as they have a better chance of being missed...... and a better chance of keeping the puck but in the end, it is the puck carrier that dictates, what will happen next The trouble for the puck carrier in this case, is he got caught by a bigger body, in his turn and because of Physics, he lost the battle and got carried along the boards now, if he had continued straight, he would have gotten shmushed, but may have kept his teeth but in the end.....the puck carrier dictated the play He just lost, and the referees only have milli seconds to figure it out. and figure out intent of what actually happened I don't actually have a problem with the penalty but in reality.......the did not have to put himself in that position as could have bailed earlier.......... As we continually say........Tryamkin is big and fast and a smaller rink....that is going to work in his favor
-
You know, I actually am getting tired of players, who to avoid the hit, turn, and expose their back, then once getting hurt, go down and expect some sort of justice. Just take the hit on your side and protect yourself...........miscalculation on the player.........Tryamkin is just so bloody big, and there is no give.......that is not on him. I am actually amazed how many times you see a guy turn just before a hit doing exactly the same thing............just take the hit........I have absolutely no mercy for those types of players..........just don't go there in the first place

My mom is 93 years old and she went through the end of the depression She told me, that alot of normal families were fed by their neighbors, and lost their houses There was no money for gas for the cars, and alot of times cars were not fixed when they broke down Children's clothes were passed down 5 or 6 times, if they were lucky, and adults wore their shoes until they fell off So, yes....governments are trying real hard to do this balancing act With no net, and no real game plan, as it is continually moving Now we have mutations, because the virus moved around so freely in different countries Because...........................NO ONE LISTENED!
-
Going to add another tidbit to my last comment........ Governments are doing their best to not have us go into a recession or worse a depression They are damned if they do and damned if they don't......... If you look around the world, you will notice most Governments are doing the same things, except if the epidemic is worse in their country But the general balancing act is pretty close to the same country to country, with only communist countries completely locking down their citizens and I can tell you, that if the Gov tried to do that here, alot of people would ignore their requests........we are very entitled Now, you look down in the states and they make us look like zombies, as down there they storm the capital, if they don't like things Screw you, if you think I am wearing a mask, and you can't tell me to stay at home..........I live in a democracy!!!!! Well, now you know why we are in such a mess....................entitlement!.........Everyone must listen but me! Personally, I feel sorry for those officials that have to wrestle with these issues day in day out!
-
I think people are loosing grasp of the realities Pharma promised vaccine, and pharma delayed vaccine In the mean time, governments had made plans based on those promises The plans were the best they felt they could do, and it failed But the point is, they never had the control, Pharma did Multiply that with the pressure exerted by larger countries, in worse conditions Aka....US of A, and you have a mess You guys are playing the blame game, after the fact....not fair! IMO, the complexities, are not simple, and we would do no better It is not a quick Fix, but we demanded it "NOW" and they gave it "NOW" even though then were not ready to supply the world with 100% of what was required. I hate this BS..............I am stressed enough Maybe, they should just have sent all the vaccine manufactured to just one country????? Remember....hind sight is 20/20
-
Hoglander has shown alot of really good things But the thing that impresses me most is his passing He just seldom misses his target......always on the stick and never too hard or too soft Seems to be able to hog the puck too!~ Not bad for a rookie!

Do you prefer 220 or 440?
