  1. In which we traded both goaltenders...…...operative word being "trade"
  2. I am a real Demko believer He has always been elite, he has an incredible outlook and he has always had the stats to back it up IMO, and I know I am not in the majority I would play Markstrom and Demko equally until the deadline (actually mid January) See how Demko plays...….that is really the question, isn't it? If he can maintain his numbers......then we move Markstrom this year He is a huge asset and has huge value, but he is getting older... So, the time to get this figured out is now, so that we know, going into the TDL this year I don't think the question is how good is Markstrom, I think the question is...... How good is Demko? And IMO, if Carter Hart can be #1 in Phili, then Demko can in Vancouver The question to me is, if Demko can't take the job from Markstrom, how much value does he (Demko) really have? And if Demko can , while Markstrom is playing like this, then we are set for 10 years with Demko and Markstrom, will bring a solid return, that might help us fill in another spot...…. What is Markstrom's value in trade? That is my question. Who needs a number 1 in the worst way? But again, this should be determined this fall, when there is no pressure to make the decision. In my opinion, the closer we get to the draft, the more goalies will be on the market, because you can only protect one, so now (TDL) is the time to move one, if that is what you are going to do In the mean time, Jimbo better be on the phone to Seattle to see what their want is, if they leave our goalies alone. Keeping in mind, we have already moved a 2019-2020 1st for Miller. So what would that cost be? Do we want to use up another 1st ? I don't think so!
  3. I don't disagree with you...I actually think you are right...…..talent wise Sven is talented....no doubt But he can not play a hard game.....it isn't him, ….....sorry! So that puts Persson ahead of him, because he is not as moveable nor as susceptible to injury...... But as I said in the post above, its about cap, as well, so wait until Roussel gets back and even one more guy gets sent down or waivered Probably Gaudette....(just about a sure thing, actually) I actually think it is great that we have this kind of depth Wait until, Pod, Hog and Mac get their shots......its coming! Even Lind, Lockwood and Tyler Madden will be pushing in a couple of years And Goldy might never make it here...….as you suggest Pretty cool to see the depth, hey? I will say this......as Joe says.....in Benning he trusts! Personally, I think Sven just got caught up in salary cap issues for the most part The year is young.....for the most part, I am just sitting back and enjoying it While I can Cheers
  4. Sven is one major hit away from not being able to tie his shoes My point is that the playoffs are far more physical...…………. Look, count how many concussions he has already had, why do you think he gets them? Each concussion makes it that much more easy to have the next. It may be that he works himself back into the league, he's played well so far down in the A, but lets see, what happens. The Canucks have cap issues, so that all plays into it. I am not saying he is not a more talented guy than, say Schaller, Motte, Leivo, Virtanen, but they play a role, that IMO, Sven can not play, and visa versa, as well...... I don't think anyone could dispute his talent, but the game is not all about talent...…..I am open to him coming back, and playing, but I am hoping Goldobin can learn the pro game down in Utica, because I would rather see him up here, IF he deserves it Anyways, when Roussel comes back, it will make it even more complicated......
  5. Well, the problem is that you are right in the regular season...……. But the playoffs are just plain black and blue hockey......just like the old days Sven would not last a round
  6. I really hope they recover from this game before the Detroit game I think with all the travel getting back east, the 2 early games, and this game having such an exhausting 3rd period, I could see it hard to get up for Tuesdays game...….l Lets hope I am wrong! They are a much better team, it will be a good test. I would bet you see Gaudette in for Detroit....Possibly Demko
  7. Realistically speaking, this game underlines why you never take your foot off the gas, and you press, when you see them sag...…….. This game was a perfect example of how that works, both ways....
  8. Like I said...…... Thank God for Markstrom! Do I hear an AMEN!
  9. LOL, I just realized that I had been on tape delay for pretty much the whole 2nd period.... My life story! A sad admission!
  10. That is a good question, but what I think it is, that he gets better passes, and more space, as other team, can not just watch one guy.....it is a combination of things, and like you said, he probably tries harder...…...wouldn't you when playing with Bo
  11. Earlier, someone was saying they have not seen Jake Virtanen, but I can tell you the Rangers have seen enough of him.
  12. As I write this Van is playing NYR and there is a scrum in front of the NYR goalie Persson is in tight with a lot of pushing and shoving, Persson is doing the pushing and shoving The defensemen are trying to move him and can't Long term, that wins games
  13. The trouble is with that comment is that Schaller and Baertschi would play on entirely different line, because of all the above Baer would last one game, and be concussed, if he was asked to do what Schaller does. And that then make him only eligible for the top 3 lines...…….so he is not making the first line, and he is not making the 3rd line when Roussel gets back, so that leaves him fighting with Persson, Leivo, and Goldobin for that spot I don't think he wins it, but I could be wrong...….
  14. I think first off, the AHL is not the NHL and as the enforcer states, we are a much heavier, and competitive team. If our power play works yesterday, we win the game. Simple as that. But to suggest 2 American Hockey League players would improve it, is rather foolish Now, I like Baertschi and Goldobin, but both cleared waivers. 30 other teams said they were not good enough for their teams...…..I think that says it all. Personally, I say, let them stay down and gain minutes and confidence because up here, they would be 13th forwards, or injured, soon enough The NHL is that good! In saying that, they could find themselves back here, soon enough but for not, lets not panic...…….. On another note, Demko, had another very strong outing. and is showing his abilities To me, this is one of the bright spots, early in the season I have look at his stats since he came in last year, and over the limited amounts of games his stats minus one bad game, have been top 10 stats in the league....just take out that 1 bad game. and you will see, just how good he has been. IMO, as some state above, Sutter "could" be moved, but he has been playing well early this year But I like our team right now...….so, until the show me they are being out played, I say keep it status quo, and wait a little while Now, if you want to get rid of someone......Newell Brown would be a good place to start
  15. Caboose What I can remember of your offer was Fiala and a 2nd (late 1st)......what were the other 2 pieces? There are some guys that made legit offers...……..but what is it about your offer that I should have taken? To those that offered strong offers......I appreciate and respect your valid concerns and feelings But those that tried to low ball me, and there were more than 1 that did Maybe you should have given me an offer to actually consider……... Do I think I made the best decision, no, but I don't like someone making subtle pot shots at me Especially not in public, and especially, because I am new and especially when your best piece was a 37 point average player Insulting me, is not the way to make me feel welcome
  16. The reason for this post, is that, the other posts are littered with "Loui is no good" posts, or Loui is lazy posts, and or send him to Utica comments. I wanted to re-focus, on the real issues, as we already know, how much Loui is worth, and its not 6M for his play...….but I do not want to talk about his value, just what happens next. The have already established that Loui is below Gaudette and Motte, for that last game roster spot. When Roussel gets back, that will be 4 men, that will be competing for that one game spot. We already know that Gaudette and Motte are deemed more needed, as they are walking past Loui's nose into the change room, regularly for the last 5 games And again, they also have some players playing well in Utica, that will be pushing to come up. So, how does it all play out? I think there is also a risk, that the Canucks are sending pending UFA's, and that is, the Canucks will not necessarily follow through with their negotiated promises. I think those are all very important to talk about. And this thread is to pull out those opinions, which are quite separate from his on Ice abilities..
  17. I am with you brother and I agree, firing would be the wrong way to do it, right now But, I also know that, I am not telling you something new But it was rather part of the whole conversation, I was answering
  18. 4 and 1 without Eriksson in the lineup Well, I can only hope Benning and Green do not fold, after coming this far. They have sat Eriksson's butt in the stands, and have played the Schaller's, Motte's, Gaudette's and Leivo's, over playing Eriksson, and good on them for doing so. Soon, we will be making another roster move, or 2, to make room for MR. $3,000,000 Roussel, so what will happen? Maybe there will be an injury, maybe a trade, maybe a conditioning stint, but there should not be a reason good enough to play Eriksson, in fact, I would argue, he is not in game shape at this point, and the first indication that he is either coming back into the line-up or being traded, will be a 2 week conditioning stint to Utica. Speaking of Utica, we have 2 players, that in their first games in Utica, made statements that they are NHL players, so do they get rewarded for being good soldiers, and not making a sound. MacEwen is sitting down there waiting for his turn, as well as Lind, who they might bring up for an emergency call up, as well. All are skating hard by all accounts, and are all deserving of Benning's attention. Eriksson, must see the writing on the wall, and his agent must be talking to Benning. I truly hope Benning is honest and does not sugar coat it. IMO, the frank talk should be between Eriksson and his agent, where the truth is talked about. IMO, Loui, if you want to play regularly, it will either have to be Utica, or retirement and the SHL. I honestly think that is his options, other than siting in the stands. I see too many hungry players, working hard to get to the big show, too many players wanting to stay on the big club. With our team being much bigger and stronger, there is a very real possibility, that injury replacement, could be substantially less. So far the hits are not coming to our players, we are initiating those hits, and when the hits do come, we are big enough to absorb them. This all eventually comes around to Eriksson not playing and what he wants. It comes to his agent being honest, and Benning being honest, and it comes down to Eriksson values, and whether money is more important than happiness. Possibility, there is one other option, and that is the decision has already been made, and that is, Loui has been told he is not playing, and that they will sit him as long as there is not a need, before making the decision to send him down. For now, that works, but there will be a time, when that decision will have to be made. That will be the time, Loui will have to make his decision. I believe the Canucks have to show good faith here, because there is not immediate need, but when they can show, they have a need, then they will be able to justify.....that will be the start of the end...…...One would hope. Personally, I do not think Loui gets traded, as I think that comes with cap retention, the need for the Canucks to save as much of Loui's million annual cap hit, and I think Benning would rather pay Loui this year, then have a portion of cap retention of a cap buyout exist on the books, for the next 3 to 6 years. So, pay him now, and hope, or pay him his bonus at the beginning of next season, and say good by, as he either retires or fails to report. My point to this discussion is that, the problem may have already been solved, and if not, I hope that Benning and Green do not play him. Let him sit, let others pass him. He will pack it in sooner than later, if it is not all about money. If it is, well, it is probably the first time in a long time Loui is no really hurting from playing....unless it is hemorrhoids and splinters. I personally, would love to here your opinions of that side of the Loui debate......not really how good he is, or who, or how we can trade him, but more so what do you think is the plan with Loui? Not that we do or don't want him.
  19. Hi LL So, many times, what will happen, is they will hire a 3rd assist coach, who will start, by watching games and making notes, and then be on the ice for practice this is usually done slowly, by integrating him in, then after he has a good understanding of the team, the coach will say, that they are now rotating coaches on the bench This is done all the time. Once Green gets the coach, that far into the system, the coach and GM promote an assistant coach (Newell Brown) into the management group, and away from the players, to some degree That is the way it is done, when you are trying not to disrupt things. Many times, the players all ready are thinking the same things as you and I, but do not have the mechanism to have things changed, for the very reason you suggested......they don't want to disrupt. But if Green and Benning are smart, they get a great communicator, who is liked by his players, and if all the above happens, the players have pretty much bought in, way before Green makes the final change, and in many cases, the players are way out in front on wanting the change made, and there is no negative disruption. Slight of hand, basically!
