Here is another one...just came to mind When was the last time you seen this? A perfect pass up the middle, to a streaking Miller, who corralled it in a very crisp pass Now, he did not score, but the fact it happened, was totally fantastic, and totally enjoyable, and just has not happened enough over the past 8 years. Oh, and does anyone know who gave him the pass? -

You know, it really doesn't matter if I don't show up But it gets a little concerning when Alf and Joe don't show up! -

I have been reading, so I am just getting to this point now, but I am wondering, if not having a lot of games to start the season, has been a real good thing for us. IMO, it's given us enough games to evaluate our systems, and practice the adjustments that need to be made. aka Miller moving up to the 1st line, and actually having time to practice with Petey and Brock a couple of times before playing. It has also given Quinn time to work on weaker points of his game, and again make those adjustments in practice instead of game conditions. It has also given Edler and Myers time to adjust to new partners, as well as Quinn and Tanev. I have been bothered by the games being at such a slow rate, but really, I think it has been a blessing Ironically, it also gave Jake time to get in shape and focus on his game, as the last 2 games he has looked very solid and much more ready...…. -

The Canuck Power Play (discussion)
J.I.A.H.N replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
This is a good point LL I mean, we see, how the drop pass is such a risky, and easily defended attack scheme, when it is your only PP scheme. Which it appears to be. But, in saying that, it is not the only thing which appears to be wrong, is it? Because, because the players are way too stationary, once they have entered...... At the end of last year, when the Canuck's were 3 on 3, and they had Petey, Brock and Quinn out there, it was electrifying, and my thought was WOW, they just keep moving and attacking......to be honest, it was so refreshing and successful I thought, I could not wait too see our PP, with that much motion...….I have not seen it yet this year, as the players are very stationary Then I watch other teams and there the motion is, and its fun to watch and successful...……. I am not a Newell Brown fan, but some blame falls on Green, because ultimately, he guides the ship, so I guess, really, as much as I like Green it is up to him, to the larges extent. What baffles me more, is that we all see it, and they don't. What baffles me, is the other teams using these schemes, and we don't...….. To me, these are the reasons that Newell Brown gets roasted on here......maybe we should be giving Green a little love as well It is early...….there is time to improve...…..IMO, we have the personell -

Elite Keeper League 2019/2020 -[4 GM Positions Available]
J.I.A.H.N replied to Relyt Krets's topic in Fantasy Hockey
Hi Guys Not sure what this about, but I am interested in being Gm for New Jersey...…..if it is still available -
Ok, it is only 2 games, but this issue, and was a topic of discussion all last year as well. So, I asked myself, Self, is our break out and zone entries, really the way, in which to create the best scoring chances and results? I then took the next 30 seconds to google #1 The top PP teams from 2018 - 2019, and zone entry video, from the Washington Capitals Again, this took approx. 30 seconds (actual Time) I came up with a very interesting read, which I suggest our most vocal of fans should read (More ammo for you) https://hockey-graphs.com/2016/04/18/zefr-rate-a-new-and-better-way-to-evaluate-power-plays/ I love things like this, it shows you what being stuck with only one system will do to you (Canucks) and what multiple systems can do for you. It also, spells out very clearly, that the neutral drop pass, is not the most effective way, to gain the offensive zone, or in the end produce PP goals. In the end, it also spells out where and how the goals are scored...aka.....off the entry, after the team has set up, or on a broken, none system type of scramble I suggest you take a look...…….IMO, this is worth a read Lastly, my final thought is....Are our coaches capable of recognizing there are better, more proven entries? Here is a peek This is the Single Swing, the Capitals’ primary zone entry play; they didn’t invent it, but they use it more than any team in the league, and it’s alarmingly effective. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the above diagram looks like a page out of a football playbook, and note how every player on the ice has a specific role. Even T.J. Oshie, who likely won’t touch the puck, is used as a decoy to open space at the top of the ice, making the puck carrier’s task significantly easier. This play is also designed and implemented in the interest of limiting the time it takes the team to get set up once in the zone. Every player enters at the east-west location where they will ultimately reside and quite possibly score. The Caps can consistently be in formation 2-3 seconds after entering the zone, something very few other teams can say. Here are a few examples of that entry scheme: For those that are not hockey players/coaches...…..the dotted lines are 3 options, that the defenseman has to chose from, when breaking out of his zone The dashes are players movements, during the PP breakout...….(Notice Oshie, skating along the blue line ( that is to pull the Defenseman with him....as illustrated by the blue defenseman having shown movement, by the dashes, as it pulls the defenseman out of position and allows the offensive players to gain entry unattested..... This system gives Washington a 44% success rate, on their entries with possession...….the rest you can read for yourself Regards Jan PS...…...there is no video, as when I got to this, I pretty much stopped looking (again, after 30 seconds)

As you guys all know, I am a big Tryamkin fan But, I am a little concerned with all the "Fake News" guys are making opinions on..... Here is what I do know...…….(I am not an expert, but keep a close eye on Tryamkin) #1...……….2 years ago, Tryamkin, as a rookie, played in the NHL, and IMO, progressed through the year #2...……….He now plays in the 2nd best league in the world #3...……….He has a Canuck Jersey on, in his insta-gram account ( which indicates to me, he is proud to have worn our Jersey and played in the NHL) #4...……….His contract with his KHL club is up at the end of the year #5...……….He, through his insta-gram account has said he is open to coming back next year, and I believe has expressed a desire to. #6...……….Benning has also expressed his desire to get Tryamkin back to the Canucks What we do not know...….and all have non-professional opinions on, why he left, and his level of play and development in the past 2 years I do know...……………………………….. .................A professional GM, who has scouts, and contacts, feels that there is value in having Tryamkin back on the Canucks, which I would think, indicates to me, that Benning feels that Tryamkin has the skills to play in the NHL and would help the Canucks. (a professional opinion) So, IMO, all this other talk, re: he has regressed, he has not developed, why he left, that he will be mad that Goldobin is in the minors and won't come, is all conjecture and supposition, and has no validity at all...….none! So, for me, let's keep hoping ...………..and a special thanks to those that post video's and authenticated quotes from Benning and Nikita (I personally appreciate them very much)

[Discussion] The Trade Value Of Mr. Adam Gaudette
J.I.A.H.N replied to Snapshot85's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I also had a fleeting thought on this question, myself...…..I think it is a good question to ask, just for shtt and giggles My thought, is what are our needs? Which if we traded Gaudette would be another young center, which makes this a redundant move, IMO for the reasons you stated as pro's in your original post I guess a blue chip prospect, but why does the other team do that? I guess for an urgent need, but it would require that overpayment Nothing that Pittsburgh has, or would want to pay We have Pettersson, Horvat, Gaudette and soon to have Madden down the middle, that is a very enviable place to be We have Boeser, Podkolzin , Virtanen, Lind, and Lockwood on RW, which is again is loaded with potential Hughes, Juolevi, Brisebois, and Rathbone at LHD....seems solid moving forward Demko and DiPietro in goal, which seems to be solid We have Woo, Stecher and possibly Tryamkin at RHD....it could use an upgrade (I won't lie) Probably LW, which really only has Hoglander in the prospect pool But again, this means you weaken your future center ice position, until you can have a better idea of, if Madden is good enough To me, I would wait, regardless, as I want to see, what plays out this year, at the next draft, which could fill in the remaining holes, but its way to early to be thinking of that...……... I am going to be watching our recent secondary picks, for any development as well...... Players I am watching, are 2019...…….Keppan(LW), Focht(C), Solovs (G), and Malone(RW) 2018...…….Karlsson(C), and Utanen (D) If any of these picks step up, Benning again wins So, no, Gaudette doesn't get moved, except for a huge over payment....Huge! But his value is basically undetermined, at this point to me...…...he is not blue chip (first line), to me but he has the potential...………...I don't think you trade that......that and ELC's are way too valuable But I would trade Suter in a NY minute, again for the right price -

[2019-2020] Canucks Prospects Stat Tracker
J.I.A.H.N replied to Down by the River's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Really appreciate you doing this...…. Keep in mind, stats do not show quality of opponent, nor deployment so you do not know if they are being put into a position to score points (referring to Tryamkin) nor what their +/- actually implies, or why it is what it is -
People just have to remember that "MOST" NHlers have a development curve in every league they play in...………. AKA when in their first year midget, they learned the speed and size of the player then the second year, those adjustments, and understanding have already happen so they start from a better place in their second year additionally, they are a year stronger and more mature, which help immeasurably some will actually take 3 years to have that all figured out and gain strength The same things happen in Junior, where their 1st year is one of learning and 2nd year is one of executing Then, when they reach pro, same thing again...….not all players can jump into a league and show what they are made off their 1st year The years to watch are the 2nd (which is why the draft is at 17, and not 16, and their 3rd year when by the end, if they are not showing well, then it will be a tough road.... Pretty simple really...……...go to just to about any player and take a look at their junior stats it will show you this...……..not all players are McDavids, very few in all reality

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames | Oct. 05, 2019
J.I.A.H.N replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
So, yes there is room for improvement But, it took St. Louis until Christmas to get their shtt together and look how that turned out Not saying our guys will win the cup this year But lets give them a couple more games to see how things improve My only player move that I think happens in a couple of weeks is Baertschi up for Eriksson or Schaller I think it will happen, but it is difficult so close to the cap as even if you waive one of them, you only get 1M relief So, Benning has to wait until someone in the league gets injured But it is complicated, for sure -

I can remember at the end of last year when Quinn showed up and Petey, Brock and Quinn were 3 on 3, the other teams could not handle their movement. Fast forward to last night and the 1st PP were basically just static...……..so easy to defend Watched the Tor/Mtl game and their PP's were continually rotating/moving.....very much Russian Red Army from way back when...….no one had a position in a sense But the opposition could not guard against it...…………..this is the new way of the NHL...….MOVEMENT ARE you friggin listening Newell
