  1. As a victim of domestic violence myself (who did suffer blows to the head including a broken nose and a concussion), this one really reaches me. Weird, we had "jersey day" at school this week and I dug deep into the closet and wore my Linden jersey for the first time in years. Now I'm seeing him on the news as part of this campaign and I'm reminded of why he's so special. He's my first favourite Canuck. Hero. And this is something so important that he's supporting. To all the people suffering from domestic violence out there (thanks Shiznak) - get out while you can. It's difficult, but you can lead a healthy safe life on your own. https://globalnews.ca/news/9706562/former-canuck-partners-domestic-violence-awareness-campaign/ I feel that Linden will always be a Canuck and this topic is important enough to be placed here. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- @-DLC- I am in full support of any movement that is against domestic abuse. But I think that there is a huge void in what you have printed here Deb, in that what you have failed to include is any mention of domestic abuse of men. This is not to lessen the very real concerns of those listed above, only that there is a real lack of recognition of abuse towards men. In a day where equality is front and center. This is still kept in the closet. I myself, have been a victim of abuse by my partner. I have been punched, scratched, and hit in the face with an alarm clock, and sworn at so many times, it stems on the side of ridiculous. I was asked why I did not leave, and at the time, with young children, that did not seem as an option. I could take it, and I did. My brother's wife, used to beat the livin crap out of him, and in addition, she through my niece down the stairs. I often asked myself, why he never left, and his comments were, "She said she was sorry!" and would never do it again. He having come from a past marriage, where his wife was found in bed with another man, by me, had a very low self esteem, and never knew what he could do with the children, when he was at work. I tell these stories, because I know of them first hand, and was part of them, in one way or another. They are exactly the same stories as you hear countless times, from other Men, women and children, through out the country. Shameful at best! I telling you all my story, it in no way deminishishes, the atrocities towards anyone abused, especially, those that can not protect themselves. It is a disgusting event, and I think it is great, that people bring it up front and center. Just do not forget the many men, that are in the exact same situation. Thank you for posting this story, and god bless, anyone that has suffered from domestic, work place violence.
  2. Dallas hearing interest on.............. Matthew Barzal may be up for trade........not pushing it, but I will certainly listen to offers! PM me on Discord. Thanks!
  3. Hi Mike I sent in some ELC...and idea where we are on that? And the Others? When, buddy?
  4. I think you are missing the point, here Nux The regular season is 82 games long. The league needs their stars to show case the league and draw revenue. But the playoffs are a different beast, where the players, who have dreamed about the Stanley Cup, put out a much higher effort, in every regard, just not hitting, but back checking, etc. The owners, expect it then, as this is where they get their real profit, if they get in, and the longer they are in, the more profit they make. So for both players and management, it is very important, in different ways. Regular season, is just trying to get to the end in one piece, so you can get into the playoffs. To put it another way....regular season runs on talent, playoffs run on desire. It is very hard to find a intense regular season game, but talk to anyone at a playoff game, and it is night and day different, and can be mind blowing! Same for the players!
  5. @tan I think this is a legitimate point of contention tan. These moron, giving you grief are showing no respect. IMO, I do not think it is Hughes and pettersson per say, but the rest of the bunch is a light, non aggressive team. But even that is some what questionable, in that our defensive core is probably the main issue in general, and we need to add some size and talent there. IMO, our forwards are probably league average, but we could probably use a power forward, as well. I think our last run where we took Vegas to 7 games? (was it 7?) after beating St. Louis, probably shows we can handle the hitting. Again, I think are just missing a few bigger players that are actually good enough to be on the ice for a regular shift. Schenn is good, but only as a complimentary player, who can be on the ice 10 minutes a game...Keeping in mind, he is getting older (for those that think he is a 16 to 18 minute player, you are wrong! on a good team) So, no, I think you are wrong if you are just talking about Pettersson and Hughes, albeit, they looked beaten after that last round, I think most 20+ minute players start to look that way in the playoffs. We could add a little size, it wouldn't hurt! I think some of you guys, with your funny GIF's could stand to grow up a little! The thread is worth a legitimate conversation!
  6. Hefty..he has not played 1 game in the NHL. He may be the next coming of Gretzky, but until he actually goes out and does it, he is not. Beautiful hockey player, for sure, but has not proved a thing at the pro-level. How do you think he would fair against Marchand or Tkachuk? And countless others! The NHL is the best of the best...........if he does it, great! But until then!
  7. I think everyone is over inflating Bedard's value just a tad......lol He is unproven at the NHL level No...........it is not Petterrsson, Demko and Hughes I could see it being 2023 1st, 2024 1st and Miller, but that is about it...even still that is a huge payout Would you pay.Pettersson, Demko, and Hughes for McDavid? I would not, not even close! Maybe Pettersson, 2023 1st and one of Podkolzin/Hoglander/Kuzmenko/Lekkerimakki But even that is massive!
  8. I agree with all you are saying.......like I said earlier, there is a thousand variables ........I don't think the league wants to dig into it deep, because I think the casual fan does not think that deep..........basically, they just see offense............ But those that know, know, there is much more to it......... But again, the league isn't worried about those that understand the game, they are interested in growing the game, and sucking in the casual fan, long term..... It is not about us! Sorry!
  9. If Hughes played 60 games in a season, would you still call him the best Canuck defenseman? Just asking!
  10. Good question.........well, I thinkit paints a more complete picture........I think PK does too, if you could quantify it better, but IMO, PK is more about system than one particular player, where as PP can really show a players offensive talent. I agree, my method is incomplete, but I think it really separates the men from the boys.
  11. The reason I look at this way, is that it answers 2 questions (almost).............plus minus tells me what you are doing at even strength, and PPP tells me what you do on the Powerplay................I suppose you could add more to it, but I wanted to simplify it. Like I say, you could use a hundred different stats. Pretty impressed with Lindholms contributions, this year..............especially since they have McAvoy But there you go, another variable, that is not in my formula............strength of team.............which even makes Hughes look even better!
  12. I am a Bobby Orr fan, as you all know..... I question, whether this award is for the best Defenseman in the league, or the Best Defenseman in the Season................. As much as it pains me, I think Karlsson had a incredible season ,25 points better than runners up, Quinn Hughes and Josh Morrissey But Hampus Lindholm +49 and Devon Toews + 39 were heads and tails better than anyone else at even strength..to me, this is the big one, as it suggests, that they make their team better, while on the ice. The NHL is all about Promotion and Fox is in a big market, so go figure........IMO, he is the middle of the top 10, not top 3, same as Hughes. No doubt Makar is special...... Power play points + Plus/Minus is my guide, to is having a great season (Analytics would have a field day with my formula) 1st...................Lindholm.........................+49 and 17 PPP = 66 2nd..................Fox..................................+28 and 29 PPP = 57 3rd...................Hamilton..........................+23 and 28 PPP = 51 Hughes............................+15 and 34 PPP = 49 Karlsson...........................-26 and 27 PPP = 1 IMO, Hughes had the better season, as playing a bottom team with those numbers is far more impressive.............but you can spin it a thousand different ways!
  13. I just think we are assuming these Russians will come over here and work for peanuts. They have options. They have the European Leagues as well. IMO, these guys play in the 2nd best league in the world, and some bring unique qualities with them. In Tryamkin's case, he brings size, truculence, speed, and aggressiveness. These qualities are rare, and in my opinion needed on the Canucks. That is not to say, he is good enough, and will have to prove himself, and that is the point of a, basically flat NHL/AHL contract. It guarantees a decent contract, either way, but protects the Canucks in that it can all or most of it can be hidden under the cap hit waiver exemption for players sent down. (I think it is something like $1,250,000 or something close to that) Any Russian coming over, that does not have team affiliation, has options, as I said earlier. I see no down side, as he still has to make the squad, and still has to prove himself, but we get a great asset, if he makes it. And he would be locked in, at a base salary for 3 year, if he makes it. I fail to see the down side. I have moved on from my emotional attachment for Tryamkin's play, but I see no point in cutting my nose off in spite my face. IMO, some of the NO sayers, need to move on as well. WE want a good club, don't we? WE want a RHD for Hughes don't we? Should we not look at options? IMO, "IF" Kuzmenko, is asked by management, and he gives Tryamkin an endorsement, we will attempt to sign him. Keep in mind Diamond has no obligation not to hear other offers...........
  14. The trouble is your assuming he wants to come here.............he has 32 options, some of which carry cheaper housing, sunshine 24/7, and is tax free So, yes, you can offer him that, but what is his incentive to sign here?
  15. OK..........Here I am scheming Well, I would sign him to a 3 year deal.......1,500,000 per in the NHL and 1,500,000 in the AHL. If I understand the explanation I googled, A NHL club can guarantee, a minimum contract given. In this case, this gives Tryamkin security, and also keeps his Cap hit down. IMO, Tryamkin is somewhat of an unknown, and there is risk for the club, of $250,000 per season, something IMO, the club can risk. For Tryamkin, there is no risk. I might bump it a little...like maybe 1.75 Million up and 1.250,000 down, which then allows the club to send him down, without incurring a cap hit. The other incentive for Tryamkin is that with Abbotsford being the home of the farm team, he doesn't have to move, which is a huge thing, IMO. * If I remember rightly, didn't Tryamkin's parents buy a house in Vancouver somewhere? Did that really happen? I would take the risk, knowing he has matured...........Nikita............Huggie, I protect you!............Hughes..........I can live with that!
  16. I have always thought that Boston win on system and stars I am not sold on any of Boston's lessers..........sorry!
  17. I really love your rankings..........and tiers Noticeables, in within the tiers 1. I think tier 3 is spot on and I love that you have Sale and Dvorsky in with Smith...............absolutely love it! 2. Gulyayev and Strbak..........Love the call on Gulyayev and wonder if Strbak is a little high (I know you really liked him at the U18's) interesting! 3. Really like stenberg on your list...I almost feel Sandin Pellikka, Wood, Danielson and Stenberg should be in another tier between IV and V PS...........I kind of wish you would have ranked them
  18. I am going to call people here........... Whether it is Dvorsky or anyone else Players are not put into the top 10 because they have high floors That is so silly........... And to look at it another way............. Players are not ranked lower, because they have potentially high ceilings They are ranked lower because the higher ranked have better all around skill (or more) and in most cases, have skills in each category better than the lower ranked players Sure they could have one outstanding skill, but generally they are ranked lower because they have multiple skills lower than the higher ranked player Yes when you compare Dvorky to Bedard, all his skills look average But compare them to a lower ranked players those skills look pretty good In the case of Dvorsky and the U18's he looked to have better skills than alot of stars Which is exactly why there is talk of his draft ranking rising........... And again in Dvorsky's case......he carried his team Offensively Just remember Virtanen was one, if not the best skater in his draft year........the best! How did that formula work? I will go one step further...........anyone who is ranked in the top will not be slated to be a 3rd line center or winger And the defenseman that is slated to be a 3/4 could and should be a very high #3, otherwise, why did he get ranked so high? I actually doubt a top 10 defenseman would be ranked a 3/4 defenseman potential.........that seems quite foolish I agree.......one should not pick average or mediocre, but...........IMO, top 10's are not that...especially in deep drafts In saying that............Sandin Pellikka will go before Reinbacher just for that reason, unless some scout actually think Reinbacher's "potential" ceiling is higher
  19. Soooo.I have been thinking about this for a while........I think the canucks will draft one of these guys Dvorsky, Leonard, Barlow, Danielson, Sandin Pellikka, or Reinbacher I don't think Dvorsky will be there when we pick, but we would take him if he was there.all the rest we have a shot at?
  20. I think the most important thing people need to understand, is just what you said...he is 17, with a fantastic skill set...........better than almost all except for 3 others....#1, 2, and 3.....and that is debatable, and will sort its self out over the on coming years.
  21. I may be wanting to trade up, and am trying to get info out on swapping of picks..instead of debating and being insulted. It seems some do not know NHL history well, this is an attempt to get ahead of it.......and I was bored! LOL Again...looking to trade up if there is any interest
