  1. I agree...... I think that a Halak and Chiasson would do it. Chaisson was a decent player in Edmonton and with Dra and MCD, Chaisson only has to park himself in the right spot to look good.............and its a cheap fix Halak works short term.............(2 years)
  2. IMO, and looking at our roster and who may be able to replace any traded players...........if this is the year JR puts his stamp on the team, and moves players, I see this as the following........................... #1. Miller............huge return.........think blue chip prospect and multiple picks, maybe in a multiple player trade #2. Motte............with Motte's contract coming up and him not being a center, I see him as replaceable....value late 2nd/early 3rd..... #3. Halak............these are the type of players that moved at TDL to contending teams..........value late 2nd (lol...not what I said in another post) #4. Hamonic.......who is a decent player, and would be a great addition to a playoff team.....but IMO, it is not working out in Vancouver
  3. There has been alot of GM's calling about Miller, and if JR sees a offer that up grades us long term, I see him pulling the plug on Miller. All GM's know what the cost is, because they know what they would be asking, so I suspect the offers are very good. Further to that point, other GM's know, their 1st's are very late and have value closer to a early 2nd, than a top 10 - 1st, so they know the main pieces will be young players either playing or ready to play in the NHL. So, they know for instance, with what Vancouver needs (RHD), that Vancouver will be expecting Schneider in the offer, and as NYR are rumored to be interested, I think it is reasonable to expect him on the table, despite what you hear on here. I would also say that, JR is very respected, so I do not see any GM's low balling us.......JR would not take it. It will be a interesting lead up to the TDL.
  4. Hi Master Mind Yes, you are probably right,. But, I was listening to 650 and they were saying that there just are not that many goaltenders available, and that any one that are, will come at a high cost, especially to Edmonton, as no one want to fill in another piece to their puzzle. I would also say that Halak has played well this year, and is up there with the rest. His contract is also a bonus as it isn't long term. But yes, a 1st is a little too steep. But it will cost.
  5. Keep in mind jim, that with Schneider coming on board, we move a player (Hamonic?) which is $3 million or (Poolman) which is 2 million So there is where the savings is
  6. IMO, Jimmy. I think it is an option that does not hurt too much, as it would only be this and next year, and if it was the difference of bringing in 2 really good players or 1 and a secondary player..........I am retaining. But sure, if there is no difference in the return, why should we?
  7. I actually do agree with you Jim I don't think you would get a 1st But maybe 2 -2nds or close to it Rick Bight is adamant that there are other goalies and I am sure there are, but When you sift out rookies or goalies playing less that 10 games Halak is somewhere about 36th on the goalie list and only about .003 save percentage higher than Demko I think the list is very short, ......... and when you consider goalies that are actually proven Halak is close to the top As for Boston having 3 goalies, it is true But Rask has a history of injuries, and with Covid around There is a good chance Boston wants to keep all 3 Rask isn't going anywhere (aka trade..re proven Playoff goalie) Swayman is their goalie of the future and has been put down to the minors and Ullmark has proven that he sucks with no defense in front of him (see Buffalo) But maybe they move one for a 1st (I would), but he is signed for 3 more years at 5 million per Real actual cost of Halak, "IF" he were to wave his no wave? Have not a clue But he is at the top/near top of expendable goalies and is on a short contract Value...............? In division? More than if not. Other options.......sure? Who Rick Blight seems to think there are a lot of options., but how many dependable goalies with proven track records? Smith > Halak...sure when not injured.........but there is room for argument and Smith is just not dependable enough at 39, and can't stay healthy Realistically, your not getting Yamamoto A 2nd for Halak and a 2nd for taking Koskinen with retention and IMO, any trade that involves a decent goalie costs that taking Koskinen, even with retention, is going to cost And the way Draisaitl looked yesterday, they better move fast on something!
  8. @qwijibo @Rick Blight I honestly do not think there are many "none playoff teams" , or "none bubble team", that have goalies, that they will put on the market as good as Halak. Then, I think you have to factor in length of contract, as well. It is a big ask, but Halak can play a #1 goalie, and is consistant ................... Who would you think could be offered up?
  9. @Rick Blight @Ghostsof1915 Hey, I know, I am asking them for alot.............alot!!!! But if they won't pay.........they throw another season of McDavid and Draistl away I am not sure that that is a good idea........... So, if they can find better...........go for it, but that is my ask
  10. Mikko Koskinen has a .900 save percentage average Halak's is .915.................... Not a big difference But Edmonton will think so! We will take Koskinen at 50% retained as part of the deal Do sweat it, he'll play better in Vancouver, with 4 lines and a defense in front of him.
  11. Hughes little spin-o-rama Nashville player still looking for his underwear LOL
  12. I was looking at a trade very much the same First off, I think with your proposal, you can get a little more But I suggest going a little more aggressive Miller @ 50% for A.) - 2023-1st or B.) - Newhook - Justin Baron - Justin Baron - Tyson Jost - 2022-2nd Miller by himself (top 20 in league in scoring at 28 years old) has a value of a young roster player and a 1st, then you put in the 50% retention, and Colorado bites at one of these 2 trades. One is not the same as the other, which gives JR and Colorado room to negotiate. I think that is what we should be asking for. Leaning towards B.
  13. I just want to add............. 50% of the teams make the playoffs..............to me only 8 have a ligit chance So, if our target is just to make the playoffs..............i am not good with that Sure, it happens that low seeds win the cup........but not often Usually, its a top 10 team, maybe even a top 6 team...yes LA's happen, but I would never put money on it happening Never! And now with looser points, you do not even have to be a real above 50% percent team, to make it, or fool yourself. I want a machine that always pops out top finishes................... Until then, I want us building............................
  14. To me, it seems like we did not learn anything from the previous 3 games Florida, Tampa, and Carolina all top 10 teams (1, 2 and 4 by winning percentage) These are the teams we have to beat. To get there, we are a few years away. Because or depth and because of cap So, as much as Miller looks good right now, we are 2/3 years away IMO, Miller is the guy to move. He gets you a solid return. People panic about Pettersson, but he just scored 2 goals against a top ten team You seriously do not do that without NHL top end skill.............and Washington is a big team We need that big RHD and a really good #3 center.......If Miller goes, we need more But that is my real view I am not even sure I want to trade Rathbone But Miller brings the return we need!
  15. I don't think there should be any disapointment We played against a top 2 team,.........big, fast, skilled, in their building, and early game time for us Not excuses, just reality Like I said earlier, these games are all against top 10 NHL opposition It is a measuring stick for JR and BB And a little reality check for CDC Nice snipe by Bo!
  16. Classic swede play........... Pettersson gets crossed checked and tries to avoid hitting the goalie No.......you drive into him hard......... Why............ Because the guy that crossed checked will not like the result of his cross check Maybe take another penalty Surely will not cross check in that position again Petey puts his hands up, like I did not do that.............no aggression at all...........
