  1. The 2018 draft really was the Canucks version of winning the lottery. Canadien's need for Center forced them into picking Kotk, Yotes doing their classic 'off-the-board' pick with Hayden, which forced the Wings into taking Zadina as he was the consensus 3rd or 4th pick (some had him at 2), giving us Huggy Bear.

Sidenote - Canadiens and Coyotes still not learning with their reaches in the draft this year.

Per the various models OEL provided about 5 mil of value in 2021-2022 - which if you thought you were going to get this year you’d take vs his cap hit.

The “injured his foot” makes sense for a slow start, but he got worse as the year continued and you’d think as he played himself into shape that would have been the opposite.  It’s likely the foot exasperated other issues and he had a bit of a physical cascade body failure - that fits with what we saw real time.

There’s always a chance he bounces back this season but as I think about it, I can see why management would bet against it.

Again, still not a big fan of the move but it is what it is.  If OEL plays terribly next season I think it’s fair to concede this was the right call.

What if he pulls a Karlsson tho... OEL seemed great when Hughes was out.

  3. Anthanasiou (and Provorov) is the reason Chicago placed where they did to win the lottery:
Tied the game with 2 minutes left against Philadelphia, then Chicago ended up losing in OT.

    - If Chicago didn't tie the game, they would've ended up 31st and Columbus would've won the lottery
    - If Chicago won the game, they would've ended up 29th and SJS would've won the lottery.
