  1. Again, almost no one here is asking him to be a point producer in the NHL right away. People are (unjustly) writing him off because of the way he is playing. This is what happens when incompetent management puts a kid, who is not ready, in the lineup.
  2. I don't understand how you can be so disingenuous. This has nothing to do with points and I'm sure a part of you knows this. The guy just makes a lot of mistakes and doesn't work hard enough to compensate for that. He's coasted on his natural talents, he needs to be given time to start understanding the game. The NHL is not the place for that.
  3. Been saying it since the season began, he doesn't deserve to be in the NHL. They need to send him down yesterday.
  4. If Virtanen played hard, we wouldn't have so many people disappointed in his game so far.
  5. I have plenty of patience and willing to wait a couple years for him to develop. He's got everything going for him. However, why the heck is he in the NHL? His play has not justified the stay. The thing that really bothers me is that there are other players who should be getting looks before him. Let the guy play in junior and AHL and then bring him in. It seems like the people who want him to develop in the NHL are the one's who lack patience. He's not ready.
  6. How do I embed videos? I have spent an hour trying to figure it out. If this is the wrong place to post this please show me where to go to get the answer. Thanks.
  7. Virtanen has not shown well and should not be awarded a spot on the roster. He is physically ready but there are so many aspects of his game that need improvement. Shot accuracy Defensive zone coverage Board-play Decision-making Effort This is a kid who was benched multiple times by his WHL coach. He has a lot of room for improvement. In the defensive zone, he looks like Kassian. I keeping seeing people on here saying he won't learn anything if he goes back to WHL or develop bad habits. Plenty of players play 2 more seasons in junior leagues after their draft year, and it doesn't hurt their development. So why is Virtanen so special? Mark Schiefele was selected 7th overall in 2011. He played two more seasons in the OHL before making the jump to the NHL. He put 49 points last season in his second year in the NHL. Ryan Strome was selected 5th overall in 2011 and went back to the OHL for two more seasons after he got drafted. Then he played in the AHL for part of the season before he got called up. Last year he played a full season in the NHL and put up 50 points. Michael Dal Colle, who was picked right before Virtanen, just got sent back. He put up 31 points in 21 playoff games and won a memorial cup. What does he have left to prove? Nothing, but, like Virtanen, he is not ready for the NHL and the team made the right decision in sending him back. I understand that Virtanen is exciting and the highest pick this team has had since the sedins but bringing him into the NHL when he is not ready could be disastrous for his development. He is not Bo Horvat so expecting similar results as Bo had last season is unreasonable. Bo earned the coaches trust by playing well in the defensive zone making smart plays. Sending Virtanen down for one more season won't harm him. Virtanen was one of the youngest players in his draft, so a little patience on the Canucks' end would be beneficial for him and the team. TL;DR - He is not ready for the NHL. Send him back.
  8. I watched him play in about 12-13 games last season and he was benched for long periods of time in 3 of them. That's a coach challenging a player to play better. If he's lost motivation just one season after the draft then what does that say about his character. You know who else got bored of the junior competion without ever actually having dominated juniors? Nicklas Jensen. I have to agree with some of the other posters in that he can, at times, be quite one-dimensional. He doesn't battle for pucks enough, he has trouble cycling the puck, and he makes a lot questionable decisions. The other huge issue for me is that he looks just like Kassian when it comes to defense. I absolutely do not want him on the team for more than 9 games next season.
  9. Some interesting stats (at least for me). In the CDC Consensus thread, 12% of voters had Brock Boeser has their 1st choice at 23. Only player with more votes for the 1st choice at 23rd overall was Oliver Kylington. Boeser was also the forward with the most votes with 24% of voters having him in their top 3 at 23rd overall.
  10. I'm glad to see Christian Fischer in there.
  11. How can you say that, this is where a lot of people had him going.
  12. added another video for you to analyze https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh0GQNB_3z0
  13. To the people saying he didn't look happy. He's just a chill dude. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-_7litgUbQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh0GQNB_3z0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ4XtC01Cu8
  14. Solid, underrated pick. Good work JB.
  15. The surgery was in MAY 2014. I can see it having an effect on him in the beginning of the season but after 20 games, it shouldn't be considered a factor.
  16. He doesn't know how to play on the boards though. I think that's an important part of the game he needs to work on in juniors before taking the next step.
  17. Lol, even the announcers are getting frustrated with Virtanen.
  18. Didn't catch the first period but Virtanen has been mediocre so far.
  19. Less than 15 minutes of ice-time is disappointing, especially for a draft +1 year, for a top ten pick, in a tight game, in the playoffs, with the game going into overtime.
  20. He was just drifting out there again tonight.
  21. Well hopefully he'll have some urgency in his play next game because today was awful.
