[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread

I agree 100%. We also know now that Toronto's 4x20M was indeed EE's biggest offer he received yet. There is nothing wrong with what the Jays did imo. Imagine having no Morales and no Encarnacion? That would be bad. -

I read some things on the score today 1) Paul Kinzer is very surprised EE isn't a blue jay right now, thought for sure EE would end up back in Toronto. Compared EE and Jays to Dodgers and Turner and how Toronto was wrong to sign Morales. 2) Blue Jays payroll for 2017 is "at least $165 Million USD". 3) EE will most likely be a Ranger -

Yep that's what I gathered from the whole thing. He's definitely trying which is nice to see. It would be nice to have him back since losing him and EE would suck. -

I love the score, but idk if I can fully believe this. I hope it's true because I dont want him back by default. I want a star back because he chose Toronto over the rest. When it comes to Atkins/Shapiro, I don't think not signing Bautista has anything to do with term, money or direction. I just don't think they want someone on the team that they view as a "dick". I even said this before Sid did on the Tim and Sid show. I can add Tampa and Baltimore if you'd like, but Ill post a screenshot of it so far. Not sure if the template I used is what you're hoping for though. I have another template of a scatter-plot graph (I used for NHL) and can input the data there if that's what you're looking for. -

They'll probably keep the space open for the trade market or next seasons budget. I did a statistic graph on how many wins TOR,BOS and NYY had over the last 20 years and how many wins they got in their worst season. I can't believe after 20 years the worst the Yanks did was 84 wins... Crazy -

I'm starting to wonder why I asked this question since I realized the person I'm getting it for has 2 Donaldson shirts (regular and canada red) as it's her favourite player. Hopefully I can find one this time of year. EDIT: I got it, I'll get Smoak! Whenever I get a jersey the player seems to be traded. -

Do you guys think Josh Donaldson is a good jersey to get someone for Christmas? If not, who's a better choice? -

It's nothing major, but previous back issues is a cause for concern when handing out $100M Not sure if this was his first back injury, http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2015/3/10/8181987/blue-jays-injury-news-edwin-encarnacion-out-with-back-pain We'd be getting the 2015 EE next year IMO, not the 2016 version. -

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-hot-stove-rumors-rays-reportedly-open-to-anything-including-signing-jose-bautista/ A team in the AL East is willing to sign Bautista, and it may just be the most unlikely team. Rays and A's interested in Bautista and Encarnacion? Dafuq Now I know it isn't likely, but it's quite humorous. -

We're going to have to agree to disagree with that because we've been down this road before. You always wanted the 5th year, and I never wanted the 5th year. I was OKAY with a bit more annually but that's where I draw the line. I personally didn't see any team (exception: BOS) offering a 34 year old DH with back worries a 25Mx5yr deal. I'd like to hope the Jays called EE before signing Morales and said "Are you sure you want to turn down the contract? If you do, we are going to sign another DH today". I still believe Boston was the only team EE actually wanted to talk to in free agency before going back to the 4x20M Jays offer, but by that time it was too late. EDIT: On a side note, I 100% respect Shatkins for telling Jose Bautista that the 1 Year offer he has from the club is "non-negotiable". -

Well if he went to Colorado or St Louis their pick is even worse since we'd only get the 2nd rounder since Texas and Chicago got the 1st rounders. __ Also I noticed in this thread people bring up the Jays and their expenses in CDN dollars. What the Blue Jays say their payroll is and what they pay their players in is all in USD. -

Everyday he will think about the life he could of had here and realize how much he screwed up. Oakland is a joke. Their team sucks and the only thing people talk about down there is the golden state warriors. -

That offer was gone as soon as Morales was signed and it was his best offer so far. If it was on the table he wouldn't be regretting turning it down. The only other team he was even considering in free agency was Boston. He figured he would get paid to take the spot of a legend and play alongside his best friend, Hanley Ramirez. That miscalculation cost him a return to Toronto. David Ortiz caused the whole thing too by constantly bugging EE about it. -

Most definitely. And Edwin will miss us just as much if not more. He already admitted how much he regrets turning that contract down. -

Don't remind me because that's by far the thing I'll miss most when going to games. But in the end, Toronto tried by offering a generous offer and Edwin said no. So if he's not here next year it's on him, not the team. Turning down that contract will haunt him everyday next year if he signs with a bottom feeder NL team. He'll be on an inferior team in a city he won't want to be in (Rockies are the new rumour), making less money and playing a lot more (1B rather than DH). -

EE is getting some offers, just not anywhere near what he turned down from Toronto (4x20M). He's basically gone barring a miracle. I'm thinking he would have accepted Toronto's offer too if it weren't for David Ortiz. I still can't believe EE turned that down but Ortiz probably had him convinced Boston was going to pay him a ton of cash and Kinzer decided it was well worth the gamble. It's hard to say which one is better tbh because Jose was coming off an awful year while EE came off his best. But one thing is for sure, Jose Bautista is a lot more realistic to be back next year. -

I read a week ago the Jays are only willing to give 1yr and Joey Bats wants 2yrs. It'll be interesting to see what he ends up getting. My prediction was 15Mx2yr. -
