Elon Musk let Elon Musk buy Twitter, with his overvaluation that forced board members to agree because the significant over-payout, relative to share price at the time, being in the best interest of the shareholders.

I guess it depends on the deal. But if Calgary is also retaining salary that addreses my concern. The other is CDC goes mental on 30+ aged players. It's amazing we cut slack for ex-Canucks.

Anybody who thinks Tanev should be producing more offense or isn't worth his contract is a dummy. Anyone who thought we should have moved on from Tanev when we did is a dummy. Don't be a dummy.

He could put up 0 points and I would not care one bit as long as he’s providing elite defense.

I'd rather look to take advantage of a team needing to move cap, Carolina wants to keep Pesce anyway. At least all Graves would cost is money.

Just because we've had to endure 50 years of incompetence doesn't mean we should begrudge LAs Vegas. What we should be doing is taking lessons from them on how to not suck so bad, lol!

I think more are concerned that other teams know we need to shed cap. And we'll get scraps for our players at best. If you're willing to accept low to no return. Players can be moved.

The horvat trade was an indication that if you ask for more than what the powers that be think your worth. They accommodate your wants. There’s been far to many signings for far to much and far to much term. Hopefully everybody took notice. If it ain’t enough then their  here for the wrong reasons.

      -AJ-

Perhaps, but I'm more poking fun at how people can cherry pick a perspective. If we were Oiler fans we'd be talking about how deadly McDavid is on the PP, but instead, we're talking about how he only gets PP points. If Petey had tons of PP points, I doubt you'd find fans claiming he wasn't a well-rounded player because of his PP points.

In fact, McDavid actually plays on the PK about as much as Petey and has pretty solid PK results as well. It doesn't logically follow that because a player has a large number of PP points, they must play poorly 5v5 or defensively.

    3. hammertime

      hammertime

Is this some kind of PP contest?

    4. TheQuietQuitter

      TheQuietQuitter

Mc David scores 46% of his Pts on the PP.  Edm has the #1 PP at 32.4%

Pettersson scores 25% of his Pts on the PP. Van has the #10 PP at 22.6%

I think it goes without saying, but the Oiler's won't be able rely on the PP as much as they did in the regular season, although the odds favour them facing a Kings team with a 75.8% Pk in the first round.

Pettersson's number's are just a result of his efficient defensive game in my opinion.

Teams need to be able to provide a list.  There is no excuse for Kelly Sutherland being allowed to work Canucks games given his proven track record of corruption.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Why do you think he works Heff? Gary probably loves his wrestling style results.

    4. King Heffy

      King Heffy

I'd love to have a judge investigate that.  Sutherland's continued employment is criminal negligence and is likely to directly lead to a player's career being ended unless he is forced to start conducting himself like a professional.

So true. I wasn’t that worried. Obviously he was not ready to start the season

  18. Pettersson should be in Selke conversations this year but I’m not sure people are ready to have that conversation yet

    1. AngryElf

      AngryElf

He’s winning the Lady Byng this year, and I fully expect he’s going to be nominated for the Selke. He’s been outstanding.

    2. FlyLow_

      FlyLow_

I'm not saying he should win it but It's definitely time he starts getting some Selke votes. He is one of the best two way players in the league.

    3. Pears

      Pears

Absolutely criminal to think Green wouldn’t even consider trying him on the PK like at all.

  19. If we do in fact move on from OEL in the summer then Vladislav Gavrikov needs to be priority number one. I feel like he’d be PERFECT on the second pair with Hronek.

an oel buy-out would have to be absolutely last resort I think. Myers with one year left after bonus is paid out is a heck of a lot easier to move.  retention for 1 year would be better than dealing with oel’s buy out.  even if there are no teams looking for a Myers on the back end, I think like ARZ would be enticed to help get to the cap floor then flip him at the TDL

    3. Phil_314

      Phil_314

@Canucks Curse in what world is ROR a 3rd C?  We're also already above the cap for next season so we'd be in tough to get him even as 2nd C if we move Miller.
The rest of the depth D would be appealing though (either Soucy or Borgen from the Kraken would be great).

Re: OP, no thanks to buying out OEL, if only management would trade Myers at next TDL and move Boeser/ Garland/ Miller in offseason for picks.

    4. Iron Fist

      Iron Fist

I don't think OEL going anywhere. Myers iis after his signing bonus

  20. Am I being a bit too optimistic if I say I think there could be something with this group next year if we add at least 2-3 defensemen capable of playing defense at the NHL level?

I’m thinking so. I really hope management has noticed some of our best games this year have come when OEL is out of the lineup.

    3. Coconuts

      Coconuts

I think so, I reckon we'll be a fringe playoff team next season at best. But I'm also of the opinion that overhauling and transforming our D will take more than a single offseason and that we don't buy out OEL.

    4. Pears

      Pears

Oh for sure. I’m not expecting a complete 180 over one offseason, but getting the structure in place and upgrading areas that are needed, I think two seasons from now is doable.

Some proposals you don't know if a pending FA will sign reasonably. A month back, we all knew we had to whittle down next season's total cap.

Signing AK & trading Bo is perfectly fine, would say at this point.

Be nice to further hack away another 5-7 mill from '23-24, & I'd prefer OEL is bought out too.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

To be fair. When Petey was struggling some wanted to trade him as well.

      CDC is very fickle.

    4. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Yes I did, him and Schenn were our most manageable trade assets. Could have got a haul for him. I'm still in favour of stripping this roster down.

I'd have to say it's much easier to become rich being a politician in the US.

Having inside knowledge of which companies are going to be handed big defense spending contracts seems much more lucrative than being paid for "charitable speaking engagements". But corruption is corruption, it's all gross.

  25. Bruce had this team go 32-15-10 after he got here last season. If my math is correct, that’s a .68 win percentage. Now that clip probably wasn’t sustainable over a full 82 games, but injuries and all that aside did anyone really expect us to fall off like this? I’m not sure what happened between the end of last season and now but my god.
