Think of me as that slightly stubborn captain who's not quite ready to let go of the wheel. Sure, the official word might be that it's time to disembark, but I'm here, bailing out water and patching up the leaks. Call me sentimental, call me attached, but I'm on a mission to keep our little community going.

I’ll see you guys on the new forum but man, this is still kinda tough to process after being here for the better part of 12 years.

I would love 6M x 4 years. That would take him to 33 and pays him for his late prime. Even if he starts to decline it wouldn't be very drastic. My concern would be a 7 year contract which he will probably be looking for.
Most of those guys you listed are LD. Even if Pesce starts to decline slightly in year 3 or 4 he would be an amazing partner for one of those young guys so would still have value. If Willander is ready to make the jump in 2 years he still probably isn't ready to be Hughes' partner. At a minimum we probably need someone who can play with Hughes for 3 years before any of our prospects might be able to handle it.
I'm personally hesitant on going after Pesce because I don't want to be paying more guys into their late 30s. But, if we can actually sign him to only a 4 year contract then please sign me up.
Exactly what I’ve been saying. Pesce is the perfect 4-5 year stop gap for Willander to develop properly. Nice to see others are sharing the same sentiments.

This obsession with not improving after a decade is weird
The last time we were truly bad enough to bottom out was 2017 and we ended with someone who would almost certainly go 2nd overall in a redraft.

At what point are these "writers" gonna figure out we’re nowhere near bad enough to completely bottom out for a guy like Celebrini? We’re much closer to making the playoffs than we are to getting a 1st overall pick.

No ... we got a logjam of crap as it is lol. Getting under cap will be tricky.
Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind but doesn't appear to be in the plans at all.
Only guy who could’ve made sense is ZAR for the 4th line but that’s about it. But yeah we’re super clogged up as it is.

Most important series of the year and our big guns are complete non factors and we get embarrassed by a team who had just lost 16 of their last 20. Not saying I want to trade him myself but we need a shake up, and I’m wondering if Rogers has the stones to trade Vladdy for a monster haul and back up the brinks truck for Ohtani.

Podz reaching his potential is like a lab made winger for EP. If he comes in flying our lines fit together much better. Still don’t know how to fit all the wingers in.
I said going into last year that our best chance for improvement was to see Podz improve.
He had off year and so did we.
We see these stories every year of this player coming in in best shape ever. This year alone we have Podz, Kuz and Brock all coming in in best shape ever.
Professional athletes don’t deserve pats on the head for coming in in shape. That should be the expectation.
How much money did you take before deciding to act like a professional? These guys have had trainers and dieticians since they were 10 if they didn’t know what to do before now that was arrogance and willful ignorance.
100% agree. Once he hits his stride I think he’d be the perfect compliment to Pete and Kuz, which certainly go a long way for us.

Fair. At least you got the WS in 92 and 93, but that’s a tough group of teams to cheer for.
I don’t really have a favourite NFL team and I plan to keep it that way. Cheering for the Canucks and Jays is enough disappointment for me. I enjoy being able to flip around and watch whatever is the best game or two on at the time and never end up disappointed with the outcome.
So you can understand why I’m still trying to process/comprehend this 100% complete transformation my Bengals have gone through the last couple years. We’ve seen as many playoff wins since last January as some have seen since the 80’s, and the Lombardi dream is more likely now than it ever has been.

Lekkerimaki would be a handy Boeser replacement when he hits ufa and on a ELC to boot
True, which is why I wouldn’t be opposed to moving a Höglander type instead. But as of right now another top 4 RD is really the last thing we need and would make everyone feel much more comfortable about our playoff chances this year.

As far as assets I think the 2024 first and Lekkerimaki should both be on the table for the right player.
Yeah that’s definitely a good starting point for a package to get a Pesce-type player. We don’t have time to wait for prospects like Lekkerimaki and future 1sts to develop we need to get going with this core now.

And worth trading assets for, given where we are this year? What’s the most you’d be happy paying for him?
A roster player to make the salary work (Myers/Beauvillier/Garland), an NHL ready player or good prospect (Höglander/Podkolzin), and a 1st next year.

Starting to sound like a broken record here, but Brett Pesce is the perfect type of defenseman we should be looking at.

The only way Pearson gets value, is if Taffoli comes back to Van and ignites him. I have no Idea why Taffoli never played with Pearson on a canucks line, that was bad coaching and it was bad management that let Taffoli walk. If Vancouver could get that line together again with JT, or Boeser, geez. With Sedins both in management now you think that would have been in place already, they played against LA.
Except Toffoli was just traded to New Jersey at the start of the summer so that’s not gonna happen. It was fun while it was a thing but it’s time we gotta let the Toffoli thing die.

It should be concerning that the Canucks doctors allowed multiple skaters to play most of the year with injuries requiring surgery. I am no medical professional but letting these guys play through a broken foot or a torn ACL seems pretty freakin' stupid to me.
Also I’m ngl when Mikheyev was put on the season ending IL that was the first I heard of him having any kind of issue with his ACL which was still pretty shocking to hear.

Yea and it was bad goaltending that was the main culprit. Which is also tied into why our PK was so crappy.
Demko had the 3rd worst GSAA league wide in all situations
-10.12 in 15GP.
hard to win when you’re basically battling a free goal against 2 of every 3 games
after that Spencer Martin said hold my beer
I’ve been saying I had a feeling Demko was fighting something the first quarter of the season and with how well he performed when he came back, that kind of backed my theory up.

I understand that, I'm torn because how many times has Vancouver given a 1st up in the past and come up short in the future while looking at their prospect pool?
This is the discipline part of not trading picks away. I do understand your point.
I get the hesitancy of moving a 1st, but we’re at the point of our cycle where 10th-15th overall picks really don’t do much for us unless it’s in a super deep draft.
We aren’t bad enough to completely bottom out, and it’s time we start adding pieces to our core like we’ve started to do going back to last year, or we risk our core players growing impatient with a lack of progress.
