Hot take: If we go 2-2 or better on this road trip and find ourselves in a playoff spot we’ll actually look to add instead of selling.

Would be foolish IMO. We still need to have a very strong record to make the playoffs and unless we find ourselves actually in a playoff spot by the TDL, we shouldn't be looking to substantially add. Even if we go 4-0 on this trip, we most likely will still be out of a playoff spot. I think many fans aren't realizing how hard it is to catch up once you're behind.
I do think we are a good enough team to make the playoffs overall (our record with Boudreau suggests as much), but given our horrible start, I'm not confident we're good enough to make up all that ground.
-
agree, would look for a trade to improve bottom 6 or D...I would use Hogz, rathbone, Mcdonaugh, Jasek dipietro as a trade chip...who were you thinking of adding, I would just burn an asset on a UFA, a la JB and TTofu... interestingly Donnie and Dhalie had that rumour that Canucks called on Chychrun, I must say, I was very happy to hear that.
Would love to move out Dickinson, poolman but both injured, and Pearson, Hamonic have NTCs that go away at the end of the season (Pearson goes to 10 team NTC)

5 points out with 33 games left and people are acting like we’re still in the deficit we were with Green lol.

@Pears You're correct, but it can be surprisingly hard to catch a team when they're playing decently. Although we're only a few points behind, we need to play better than teams that are already pretty decent teams, so we need to play quite well to catch stronger teams. It would be easy to make up 5 points against teams like Arizona or Montreal, but teams like Edmonton, Anaheim, LA, and Dallas don't lose nearly as often, making it surprisingly difficult to pass them all.
I find that it becomes pretty clear what kind of level we need to play at when you do the actual calculations of what it takes. Currently, we need to play at about a .650 level for the remainder of the year to catch up to the bottom of the playoff line. It would become a lot easier if we went on a 5-game winning streak right now though.

I think it's worth noting that having games-in-hand is not necessarily a good thing with the compressed schedules caused by all the postponements. Having played more games earlier in the season might actually work in the Canucks favour in this particular situation. Some of the teams who haven't played as many games are going to be playing more than an average of one game every two days
-
Really takes a special kind of stupid to not only not know what you’re protesting but also protesting the wrong government.
-
The NHL really decided the best way to slow us down was to postpone all our games, kill all the momentum we had, and take us right into an absolute gauntlet of a roadtrip
-
Let’s close the gyms though!

Oh here we go

Canucks get hot, the league explodes with covid. Classic.

Lol fits our narrative -- remember last season, when we were already mathematically eliminated, THEN we start stringing wins together, and our mini-series with Calgary (just before the post-season) became the consolation playoffs (even when we were just playing for pride)?
This may basically be the exact opposite, and a potential momentum killer.
-
Has anyone else noticed we’ve stopped spamming the horn after goals/wins recently?
-
It truly is amazing the difference a competent coach can make. Like this team is night and day.
-
The historical glance at Green's tenure will start to be viewed as almost a Bill Laforge-esque level of incompetence.
For 3 or 4 yrs, the whole F***ing fanbase "ran the gauntlet" whenever watching our guys try & perform. Sorta' like throwing a 10 kg backpack on some poor schmuck, then tell him to swim 5 km's
-
Bruhhhhhh LOL

Did mr, Aqua actually say that? I think he’s a really good owner, especially after those out of town losers he bought from, but (if this is him) he might be best just keeping quiet? Or, maybe he like his scotch like old Alf, and drinking loosens his tongue? Go get those ********** Mr. Weiner owner guy.

Hit Aquilini where it hurts. That’s our only hope at getting change at this point tbh.

@kanucks25 you’re better at reporting fake Canucks trades.
-
Rather interesting the team didn’t post Green’s presser no?
-
What an absolute sleezebag move from Rick Bowness here.
-
Anyone ever been in a group but were not really a part of said group?
-
I wonder if a decent sized trade would give us a good jolt.
-
Through three seasons:
Willie Desjardins: 109-110-27 (.443)
Travis Green: 102-103-28 (.437)
Even overall, Green has a worse record/win percentage than WD despite having much better overall rosters. He is holding this team back.

@Heretic- I might be able to buy your explanation. Are you suggesting that perhaps Green doesn’t have an issue with Podkolzin, but rather, simply wants Podkolzin to observe a few things from the press box? I could possibly buy this strategy but is this a common practice with rookies?

Love getting screwed out of a needed 8 hours of work because one of my covid denying coworkers comes to work on Tuesday despite testing positive for it and she doesn’t bother telling anyone about until this afternoon exposing who knows how many people to it
-
Just noticed I don’t have warning points anymore so just wanted to thank whoever took them away
-
Oh boy here’s a new one. Letting the face of your franchise sign an offer sheet and get a bunch of mid-late round picks back just because you have an agenda against your favourite teams’ gm is the best way to try and win a Cup

@Pears "I have never seen a group of fans have such an unhealthy hate on for a general manager"
It helped get the previous GM fired (the "Fire Gillis" chants @ Rogers which got increasingly more vocal as that horrible last season went on had to have some impact on the owner).
Fan originated from the word Fanatic. You often don't see rational / logical thinking involved.
-
Gillis completely deserved the firing, so the fans chanting him to be fired wasn't really a surprise. A GM who basically can't draft/develop any of his players, aside from TWO of his first rounders, is perhaps a reflection of him overlooking other parts of his job.
I don't hate Gillis, but I feel the need to bring up his flaws because people seem to fondly remember the good old days, without remembering why he screwed this team with his draft selections/decisions, including the trading away of picks.
-
Imagine being mad at your teams best player for wanting to win

Bo Horvat re-signed on September 8th 2017
Brock Boeser re-signed on September 16th 2019
People need to r-e-l-a-x.
-
I really wonder if we’re done making moves or if Benning wants to go for another top six forward and roll with something like
Miller - Pettersson - Boeser
Garland - Horvat - xxxx
Höglander - Dickinson - Podkolzin
Pearson - Sutter - Motte

Domi went under the knife for shoulder surgery tho and he's a UFA after next season... that one would worry me. I'd want something more concrete back @Pears
-
Anyone ever talk to 10 or more people but only like 3 message you first?
-
We’d have to move out Schmidt, Holtby and Virtanen first, but could y’all imagine a OEL-Hamilton pair if a change of scenery is all OEL needed?

How much would we save with a Holtby buyout?
if I’m doing my math right, we would get about 2.4 million in cap savings? (So, a buyout would entail a 1.9 million cap hit).
Not bad I guess. Holtby and Virtanen buyouts would give us a combined 4.9 million in cap. Maybe that 4.9 million could be used on a guy like David Savard or *insert defensive defenseman*
-
3.8 mil for this season, with 500k cap hit left over
1.9 mill cap hit next year
For Jake, its a 50,000 cap hit this season with 2.5 mil savings, 500k next season
So:
2021/22: 5.7 mil savings
2022/23: 2.4 mil cap hit
The second year cap hit sucks, but if we want to make a big move for next season its there to make.
