  1. I streamed the 2nd and 3rd period. I don't think it's on TV. But TSN should have the highlights.
  2. First game for Canada at the U18 championships is over. They beat Sweden 3-1. Prospect Watch: Virtanen: 2 goals, 2PIM Nylander: Zeros across the boxscore Perlini: Zeros across the boxscore Kemp: 12 PIMs Karlsson: Zeros across the boxscore Quenneville: Zeros across the boxscore Fluery: Zeros across the boxscore McCann: Zeros across the boxscore
  3. Jake Virtanen has two goals after two periods at the U18 World Championships opening game vs Sweden
  4. This is from the start of the year on Virtanen: http://www.redlinereport.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Nov.-13-Spotlight-Virtanen.pdf
  5. Ya I agree with you. I think in all likelihood it is just "baby weight" and he will lose it. I am not too concerned about it. But there is an off chance that he could have difficulty losing the weight and could affect him -- ONLY in the short term.
  6. There is tons too like about Ritchie. And I wouldn't be disappointed if we drafted him. But his offensive skill leaves more to be desired IMO. The only other thing I worry about is his weight. He will likely need to drop 15 pounds or so for his conditioning to be NHL level. This isn't a huge deal. But ideally you want young guys to put on muscle. As anyone with bodybuilding experience knows it is difficult to lose fat and put on muscle at the same time.
  7. Ritchie's offense isn't that great. He seems to use his size very well to facilitate but that huge advantage in juniors will be minimized in the NHL. I know people like to point to his 5 goal games as an impressive feat (which it was) but it also causes me a little concern. I like to see prospects producing regularly throughout the season (I am not saying that Ritchie didn't). But if you take away that one night he has 34 goals in 61 games. Compare that to a guy like 8 months younger like Virtanen and it is not as impressive. If you look at how many goals Ritchie scored as a 17 year old it is far less than Virtanen.
  8. Ok you think it is a good strategy I don't. Agreed to disagree?
  9. I would draft Dal Colle 6th because I think he has a ton of skill I could really care less if he has a relationship/chemistry with Cassels (it would be considered a bonus if anything). I think I have made it pretty clear that I believe we should just draft the best players available.
  10. No I would love to have McDavid etc. The point is we should draft the best player we shouldn't draft a lesser player just because they had some chemistry in junior. Once again you are attributing their success to the chemistry component and overlooking the much more likely explanation that they were/are very skilled players playing on a junior team together.
  11. I agree that there needs to be a youth movement. All I am saying is lets not go out of our way drafting teammates. Let's draft the best players available. Most of these top prospects all know each other from playing in big tournaments anyway. Like the Gaunce/Fox point from my understanding they don't even regularly play on the same line. They have only played on the same team since December -- I've had a longer relationship with a stick of deodorant. Let's just not get too carried away with this junior teammates thing.
  12. Well first off Dal Colle is going to go top 4 so we would have to trade to get him. If we draft Ritchie at 6th do you want Cornel as the second round pick because he is the best player or because he is on the same team as Ritchie? Junior chemistry doesn't mean a whole lot. The reason those players do so well in Junior is because they are both very skilled players, not because of their chemistry. Do you think Dunchene and Hodgson would put up better point totals if they played together? Do you think MacKinnon would play better with Drouin than any other player in the NHL. Not only that but you seem to have this assumption that just because two guys play together they have chemistry. Gaunce played on the same team as Fox for what? 50 games? Big deal. Who's to say that they couldn't be more productive apart. It makes no sense to try and build our team around junior player's teammates. I can't believe I have to type this.
  13. Going out of our way to get teammates of our junior prospects or former junior prospects is just dumb.
  14. The nice thing about Virtanen is that he shoots right. Horvat, Shinakruk, Gaunce, Fox, and Jensen all shoot left. Ritchie, Perlini and Ehlers all shoot left...
  15. Ritchie has a good shot and I love his physicality. But I am not sold on his offense. I would take him after VIrtanen but before Perlini.
  16. Haha. Ticket proceeds will go to "the support and development of internet trolls"
  17. Who does everyone want the Canucks to take with our second round pick?
  18. You read into comments far too much. Making up things that are not there. I really don't want to waste my time with you anymore. I know you want to have the last word so say whatever you want. I'll see you after the draft.
  19. If buffalo gets the islanders pick I could see them moving one or both of their picks if a quality player becomes available via trade.
  20. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting and embarrassing yourself. You read into my comments what you want. Lets recap: Hedman says - that I claimed "Nylanders offensive numbers wasn't impressive (what a clueless statement), the guy that thought CHL goalies were better than professional goalies or the guy that thought junior players are more physical than professional hockey players in Sweden" Baumerman77 says "Never said any of that" Hedman uses the following as evidence: Baumerman77 says "did anyone else notice how far out of position some of those goalies were?" ----This does not mean that I think CHL goalies are better than the goalies in that Swedish league. Talk about reading into a comment. Baumerman77 says "It is a lost easier to play European hockey against men." ----This does not comment on whether or not I think playing European hockey is easier than playing against CHL players. I meant it is easier to play that style of game (European hockey) against men than it is to play North American hockey against men. Baumerman77 says " His offensive numbers don't look that impressive. He played the majority of the year in a weak league" -----His numbers did not impress me that much. Sorry maybe they impressed you. I'm sorry I had to embarrass you like this. But you need to stop reading-in your own ideas into other peoples comments.
  21. Never said any of that. You can go ahead say whatever you want. I am here to discuss prospects with knowledgeable Canucks' fans. I'll talk to you after draft day.
  22. I like most people here think Button is a goof. But it's noteworthy that he didn't have Nylander in his top 14 and that Bob Mackenzie had him 11th.
  23. So I say outside the top 10 and you freak out but you don't think he'll go top 6? So why are you making sure a big deal if you think he will go 6-10? I never said the CHL is a better league, I never said Nylander was a bad prospect or that he will be a bust. All I said was that it is highly unlikely that he will go in the top 10. You need to calm down and wait until the draft. Hopefully you will use it as a learning experience.
  24. You're right I don't know much about European hockey. But I do understand NHL hockey and drafting. This will be a good learning experience for when Nylander doesn't go in the top 6
