  1. Great game for Jake "Way too good for the fourth line" Virtanen
  2. I'm convinced he can skate fine, he's just extremely lazy. He floats an absolute ton and has benefited massively from Cole being able to dish him passes from almost anywhere on the ice. Great shot though. So glad we have Virtanen instead.
  3. If you want melodrama, watch a soap opera. Horvat is fine.
  4. Ritchie is Bernier 2.0. But in the juniors, he's a solid addition if he doesn't take too many dumb penalties.
  5. I've said it before but he signed a KHL contract and he's honouring it. He's drafted by us and he's going to honour that too.
  6. Did you never learn that over-aggregating data washes out important trends? Treating all draws as the same is an amateur mistake. Bo had much a lower FO % because he was tasked with almost exclusively defensive zone faceoffs. Those were the ones refs were likely to tilt in favour of Montreal. Ozone faceoffs were actually won more by the Canucks which is quite odd. Centres tend to save their best moves for defensive zone draws.
  7. Yeah, one of each number per jersey colour. But I thought Chartier was white when he's actually red with MDC so Virtanen's jersey number has nothing to do with his. I wonder why JV switched then. Maybe HC just has certain jerseys available?
  8. I'm surprised he's #24. Gave up his usual 18 to Chartier? Classy move
  9. Is your name derived from a traumatic head injury you've had? You pretty clearly haven't seen the kid play
  10. Yeah Gaunce has been an absolute beaut in Utica. It's interesting to see his game and how it differs from Jensen's since both are big guys. Gaunce has surprising speed at times (despite worries that he's slow), but Jensen can REALLY move. It just seems like Gaunce just chooses not to move as much, which works well for him. He's got a hell of a stick and hockey IQ so he doesn't have to shift much to stay in position and anticipate the play. Jensen is definitely flashier but I think Gaunce is massively underrated because of how quiet and steady he is. And he win board battles like a sonofabitch. He's gonna be a real solid piece of the Nucks soon.
  11. No way Jake plays with his head down like Lindros did. People bounce off him not just because he's strong but because he's aware and has great balance. He gets no credit for the fact that he very rarely gets surprised by a hit but he always seems to know when someone's coming his way.
  12. I wouldn't put much stock in faceoffs of the Beliveau game. Refs can let opponents cheat at key puck drops, or even drop the puck off the dot so it's easier for one person to win. It's just one of the bag of tricks used for game management when penalties are too obvious, like fudging offside and icing calls.
  13. A 3rd round pick is worth very little. If you're getting a player for much less than a 3rd, you're not getting much.
  14. God I hope all these high-character prospects pan out. It just seems like we've got so many stand-up guys who could at least wear an A at some point.
  15. It's funny because they're playing the Devils and all I can think is that he channeled Scott Stevens with that hit. Not sure if that's good or bad but he's smart enough to catch the guy when he wasn't keeping his head up.
  16. No, that's the Hitmen for ya. Tambellini is one of their best offensive talents (behind Jake of course). Before that it was Greg Chase. And despite being awful last year, Fazleev is still one of their higher scoring players, which is mostly due to minutes rather than ability. The Hitmen need a decent 1C so bad it's not even funny. Watching this just made me feel bad for Jake. You can see that he knows it's going to be another year with these goofballs and it looks like it's already bugging him. It's not that he isn't trying, but you can see that he just has SO much more to give when he's just gently coasting around and still outpacing everyone else on the ice. If I were the Canucks I'd be applying some serious pressure to get him on another team that's gearing up for a run.
  17. He's finally getting the chance to form some chemistry with some players that understand how to work as part of a line. Trading Greg Chase was addition by subtraction for Calgary's offense. Virtanen-Tambellini-Helgesen/Rankin is a line that's building some serious chemistry quickly. They've had quite a few 10 point nights from that line and when they're off the scoreboard, it's only because of bounces when they're generating a couple dozen shot attempts.
  18. What is with this board and overvaluing Ducks prospects?
  19. So depressing seeing him play on such a bad team. The Rockets would be amazing if they traded for him.
  20. I think the argument is more that they COULD be and is just being badly stated. I don't see why we wouldn't let Gaunce get a sniff this year and see if he's ready to slowly transition into the bigs. He got drafted a year after Jensen who only saw his call ups begin last year. Cassels and McCann are a ways out still. so there's plenty of time.
  21. Greg Chase? Are you frickin joking me? If he's on the team, Canada is in trouble.
  22. Yeah, so he can back and forth within a month or 10 games (whichever happens first). After the 10th game or a month, he has to clear again.
  23. Hey, there are worse things than a Russian prospect who cares about honouring contracts
