  1. You can't be serious... I thought about making a counter argument but literally almost everything about this is wrong so I don't think there's a point.
  2. The PP was eventually going to regress to the mean. We need our 5 on 5 to step up instead of relying on powerplay, so I do think it's the other way around.
  3. It's pretty clear that Miller's shot this season has been far superior to Brock's. This is a powerplay that was #4 in the league and around #1 so far these playoffs (could use a fact check here), and Miller being in the position he is in is a big part of it. I wouldn't change it over one game of bad execution. I do agree that it's not playing to Brock's strengths, but that's sort of a necessity given our success. I would say that a better option, in my opinion, would be to have him be a key to our PP2 instead at that position that you drew up.
  4. That doesn't make much sense. Why does the fact that it was overtime have anything to do with it? Are we only trying to prevent goals in overtime? It's the same concept in regulation and OT: you're trying to score that next goal and not let the opponents do so. I haven't seen the replay so I can't make a call on whether in was right for him to jump up, but whether it was overtime or not shouldn't make a difference.
  5. Working right now so don't have time to fully respond - may do so later. In regards Myers not being overpaid - that may be true right now, for sure. However, the issue at hand is whether he will down the line, when EP and QH will count a lot towards the cap hit. The answer is of course subjective, but if he follows the trajectory that D-men usually follow, there is a solid chance he becomes overpaid, hence everything I said previously.
  6. 39M dollars is less than it seems considering we don’t have a lot of guys under contract yet for that season.
  7. Without a doubt, Myers, Tanev and Edler were players we couldn’t afford losing this year because we didn’t have anyone else. But it’s not like they’ve been excellent defensively. Our biggest weakness is apparently giving up high quality scoring chances and we’ve had to be bailed out by Markstrom over and over again. It would be ideal to look for younger replacements ASAP as they are all on the wrong side of 30 now. Keeping our defensive core intact is essentially being okay with consistent high quality scoring chances being given up, and counting on Markstrom to bail us out so that were aren’t in the bottom of the league in GAA. That’s not sustainable. To add onto that, they are all players who have a high cap hit, which is why we’re even having this conversation. We will still have like 16M tied up in negative value players like Beagle, Eriksson, Roussel, and Luongo when EP and QH need to be signed, so moving Myers isn’t really for the sake of moving a solid player on a questionable contract, more so for the sake of making other things work. But at this point, I’m not really sure Myers is even very movable, unless we retain cap hit. If it’s true that no one was close to signing him for more than what we gave him, that essentially means that no one would have taken him for free (in terms of a trade assets), from the very beginning.
  8. That was a high stick. Objectively. I'm pissed. All the other angles were high angles. Only one angle was a direct crossbar angle, and it showed that Perron high sticked the puck in. Literally just align where his stick was at in accordance to his shoulder, and it's an easy no goal call. None of their three goals were legit. First the boarding. Then the high stick on Edler. Then the high stick goal.
  9. We can't keep letting them just walk us on the PP. I know we tend to have a more conservative PK but you gotta put some pressure on the puck. This isn't sustainable.
  10. Ahh thank you! That makes me feel a lot better.
  11. I realize this isn't a time to be looking at contracts, but I really wish we hadn't burned a year off of Hughes' contract for a few meaningless games. We'll have to re-sign him to a fat contract beginning in 2021 (EP as well), when Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle, and Luongo will still be tied up for $15+M for one more year. Considering 2021-2022 might be a a year we start being seen as a "cup contender," that means we may have just wasted around $8M in cap hit (Hughes' possible AAV) that could've been used on a big-name FA, on 10 or so games of Hughes that came too early. Would have been ideal for Hughes' rookie deal to expire just as Eriksson, Roussel, and Beagle's deals and the cap recapture expired. Instead our cap hit will go up like $16-20M from EP and QH's new contracts, and we'll still have those bad contracts on our team with a salary cap that might not be going up anytime soon. I'd rather have Hughes be good than bad so I guess it's aa good problem to have though!
  12. I don't think the Blues did it on purpose. They looked upset when they lost and I just don't think they'd do that lol The Stars however, sitting out a bunch of guys, makes me think they didn't mind drawing us. I would've preferred that.
  13. Lol I like how canuktravella “thanked” your post not realizing you were clearly being sarcastic. Clueless.
  14. I don’t “love” Tanev any more than other Canucks. He’s just a regular player to me. You’re just underselling him so significantly it’s laughable.
  15. Are you kidding me? The fact that he’s +43 is honestly insane to me, given how bad the Canucks have been most of the time during his career. You listed that stat to show how he “isn’t good,” but I think most of us would agree that’s phenomenal. Also the fact that you cited +/- as a legit stat is laughable - as if it’s not something that’s heavily affected by surrounding factors.
  16. Based on what? I feel like it became apparent that JT drove that line towards the end of the season. EP wasn’t a passenger, but JT made things happen himself rather than being a Burrows type finisher. I think if you go through all his points, you won’t find many that were completely a credit to Pettersson. I would put Marky as #1, with JT and QH tied for #2, and EP ever so slightly behind. You’re not wrong though because it really can go any number of ways haha
  17. When you put "pound for pound" in the poll, how could anyone vote against Petey?
  18. It seems as if some posters would rather a prospect gain 20 pounds and grow an inch or two rather than actually become a lot better at hockey. The point is that Madden has elevated his game significantly since being drafted, into perhaps a first round grade, yet there are posts like this that suggest he "stalled out" merely because of his physical attributes.
  19. That really wouldn't be hindsight though. Everyone knew it was a possibility that Toffoli wouldn't re-sign. If your logic stands then is it also hindsight to say that it's a good trade if he does re-sign? JB took the risk and we'll see if it pays off. Fingers crossed.
  20. Henrik. Even though I would contest that Daniel was the better player.
  21. I am thinking about that scenario, and I can't even begin to imagine that losing Hughes would hurt less than losing Edler. Having a guy like Hughes for the next 10 seasons definitely gives you a better chance to win it all, compared to hypothetically having this year's Edler for the next 10 years. To each their own I guess.
  22. I don't think anyone knows tbh. Just three days ago, no one was even entertaining the idea of cancellation. The apex of the crisis could very well be months ahead, it could also be better in a few weeks. Regarding if the Canucks will miss the playoffs this way if the season resumes, I HIGHLY doubt it. If anything, the NHL will be forced to go off of point percentage I would think.
  23. People might take this as a joke, but I would agree. I would think there's a ~90% chance that the games are suspended in the coming hours. Edit: nvm, in the coming seconds apparently
  24. I have a strong feeling this game won't be played, and that we're hours away from a league wide cancellation. For what it's worth, all 5 major college conferences have cancelled their basketball tournaments that were set to play without spectators. There hasn't been a confirmed case yet amongst college basketball circles, and yet the cancellation has been made for preventative measures, many of which were done minutes before game time around noon Eastern. There is next to no chance in my opinion that we see games in the next month starting tomorrow. Tonight, maybe, but even that is in doubt.
