  1. The other connections being talked about are the Rangers... all the Boston connections and the owner likely wanting to make a big splash. They have the assets to make it happen if Buffalo wants picks and young players back. I would try to pry Chytil off the Rangers for a 3C option if they needed to make some roster spots to fit Eichel.
  2. Who knows... I don't know that they can afford to start over again. Will any fans be left? I suspect they need a quick retool and have to use some assets to get different roster players. If they do want to rebuild, we can go the other way and offer them our 1st rounder plus some cap dumps middling prospects to make it work in the short term for Eichel. No way they get nearly the equivalent of several 1st rounders for Eichel at this point.
  3. On another thread I suggested the Miller and Boeser for Eichel... it hurts enough that it seems pretty fair. Also a possibility is sending Miller plus something (DiPietro and a 2022 2nd?) for their 1st round pick... if they were planning on trying to keep Eichel, then adding to their roster instead of swapping could be interesting for them. Buffalo is getting a top 3 pick, which are generally hard to move... except this year there is no generational talent, relatively little scouting, and the pick doesn't have much value for Buffalo as the player doesn't help them for a couple of years at least. For us getting a D and a centre in the top 10 would be amazing to tie into our window and keep it open longer with cheaper contracts coming onto the roster as we are having to give raises to our current guys,
  4. Boy, what a mess in Buffalo. Do they get a haul of picks/prospects and rebuild once again? Can they do that with Skinner signed to that deal? Would the Canucks back up the Brinks truck for Eichel? It would take a haul, could be worth it.. but a haul. Could we fly under the radar for a slightly smaller move? Reinhart is an excellent playmaker and would look really good on Horvat's wing (his weakness is playmaking)... and the ability to slide over to centre in case of injury would also be good. He would fit into our age core pretty well. If Buffalo was rebuilding, what would it take to pry Reinhart away from them? DiPietro and Juolevi? If they didn't want to rebuild and repair the Eichel relationship, could sending them Miller to be his linemate be an option? Could we make it a blockbuster for two struggling teams that need a big shakeup? They have some guys who could fit a 3C role in Eakin or Sheahan. Could we move both Miller and Boeser their way for Reinhart, Ristolainen, and a good pick? Eichel wouldn't have anywhere but the mirror to look at if he got Miller and Boeser parachuted onto his wings and he couldn't make it work. Lots of interesting options. I also like Tage Thompson as a middle six possibility that could complement our roster. Could you get him for Juolevi?
  5. I don't know if Buffala would want to start another rebuild or get roster players in return. I would do Boeser and Miller for Eichel... maybe add in a prospect like DiPietro. Then you trade away Roussel and Juolevi or equivalent for a guy like Tierney I wouldn't move our 1st round pick as we would need as many ELC contracts on the books to make up for the cap crunch. Petterson-Eichel-Hoglander Pearson-Horvat-Podkolzin Roussel-Tierney-MacEwan Motte-Beagle-Lind Graovac Hughes-Hamonic Edler-Schmidt Rathbone-Myers Bowie You could fit a team like that under the cap. I take Eichel at $10 million over Boeser's qualifying offer of $7-$7.5 million any day.
  6. I agree. As much as Miller has been a good player for us, hindsight shows the acquisition was a little premature. We won't have him under club control when Benning says we will be ready to start competing again. His value will never be higher than it is right now, and have to start maximizing assets rather than watching them walk out the door for nothing or devalue to nothing. If the right deal comes along for Miller, we need to make that move. The Buffalo and Columbus ideas are good ones. If we could get the Buffalo 1st rounder for Miller, even if we had to send our 2nd along with it that... or if we could wrangle a way to include a cap dump so that we could sign Petterson and Hughes to longer term deals instead of bridge deals... which could pay dividends down the road once the cap started inching upwards. You would think Buffalo would be desperate to get better now, so handing them a high end Eichel linemate should be really intriguing. It could also make Skinner more effective... as that would be a pretty strong top line. A pick that will help in 2 years has much less value to a team that is close to imploding if they don't have short term improvement. We would probably have to make the trade before the draft lottery so that Buffalo is only trading away "a, 18.5% chance" at the top pick rather than possibly being cemented into it. For us, having pick 1,2, or 3 holds similar value as there are a bunch of D and centres in the top 10 that we could really use.
  7. Also: Chris Gear: “So we only have really low odds of making the playoffs, we should trade some rentals for assets” Weisbrod&Benning:
  8. You have clearly followed the team... because that is exactly our style. Once we are mathematically eliminated, we will win a bunch of games.
  9. It doesn’t seem like a big deal at all. Maybe they want a combined dedicated practice facility between Abbotsford and Vancouver now that can accommodate both teams.
  10. Hard pass for me... it was iffy before when we assumed two years of Eriksson was going the other way and OEL was a year younger. Now it is all downside on that contract as he ages. Almost every “worst contract in the NHL” list has him right there amongst the worst values. He has no value anymore.... they would need to retain to get anything of value for him. We also need defensive D more for the cap space we do have available. Hughes, Rathbone, and Schmidt are the puck movers but all need a partner who will help them on the other side of the rink.
  11. On the other side... what possible motivation could Getzlaf have to come and play with us for cheap? I can tell you from direct first hand knowledge, the guy loves playing in California. Even in their Cup winning year, they got to be anonymous until they were within a block of the rink... and then got to play in front of great fans. Best of both worlds. If he decided to go somewhere else for a cheap contract, it would be a contender and probably an original six. We have nothing to offer.
  12. I bet we see Domingue on back to backs... it isn’t going to help us much though. We need to be resting some of our guys on back to backs too. It will be water AHLers versus other eager AHLers. Of course these are the Canucks, so presumably once we get mathematically eliminated... we will go on a big winning streak to drop our draft position a few slots.
  13. The question for me is whether he has surpassed Juolevi on the depth chart, or whether management believes his ceiling is just a lot higher. I don't think anyone would advocate for having either of them pencilled into the top 4 next year and having two guys who are effectively rookies both on the roster at the same time on the left side. That would be a recipe for disaster and for whoever is the coach to badly overplay Hughes. An option is to platoon Rathbone and Juolevi into the 3rd pairing spot with Myers. Each young guy getting probably 50 games (splitting the season in half and then also covering for any injury time to Hughes or Edler.. or whatever other veteran we have if Edler isn't back). That is enough games for development and they get a lot of practice and skills time in with the big club. I don't think letting Rathbone marinate in the minors for most of the next season is a great option. We could also just move Juolevi to fill another need. For example, Ottawa has a lot of young centres and word is that Tierney isn't in their long term plans. Could a straight up swap of Juolevi for Tierney fix our 3C issue? Ottawa saves money like they always want to do, and we use a 'spare' asset to fill a gaping hole in the lineup.
  14. UFA this season, career AHLer... does Carolina have someone coming off an injury or a prospect they want to sign?
  15. Does it ever make you sad or at all ashamed to have to resort to blatant lies to make your tiny ego feel better? Presumably not since you do it so often. You need to take a good long look in the mirror man... being like that only hurts yourself. Just take the loss, you were wrong (yet again). There is a reason many folks on the board get annoyed by you. You call out people for being stupid and “delusional” and even when they end up being right you still trying to weasel around and keep make calling to avoid admitting you are still full of it.
  16. Woo... not sure I want to go into a battle of wits against two opponents so clearly unarmed.
  17. I haven’t watched the game... but the swing in emotion on this thread has been a perfect distillation of what it is like to be a Canucks fan. If we lose, I fully expect folks to riot and burn the place down
  18. It is possible... but would they take out their toughest player voluntarily in a game full of shenanigans?
  19. He left the game afterwards with “an upper body injury” ... I am hoping it is a couple of broken fingers. It would truly be karma and I would laugh a lot.
  20. I posted effectively the exact same thing, as have numerous other folks. I think if someone doesn’t get it, you can’t explain it to them. That public statement by Dolan just ensured job security for Parros... more than any other action that Dolan could have taken. I posted elsewhere, even if Bettman was driving into the office that day really pissed off with Parros (I don’t think that is actually true), once he read that statement it would be “Well, No way I can fire him now...” The statement backfiring is supported by recent reporting by Seravelli who heard from various sources that said the exact same thing.... that it galvanized support for Parros amongst the other owners and the league head office. If the intent wasn’t to get Parros fired, and to “stick up for his players”, it also wasn’t particularly effective. I also doubt it was the case as he also fired his GM and President because he wasn’t happy with the team they assembled. Dolan just has a history of being pretty volatile... so it was almost certainly just an angry reaction. None of that has to to with whether Wilson should have been suspended, or whether Parros is terrible at his job... this are entirely different issues that shouldn’t be conflated. Holding anything against Davidson or Gorton for any of this is silly and immature. They weren’t consulted on it, they didn’t agree with the way it was put out, they didn’t get a chance to deal with it their own ways, and they were already on their way out and about to be fired a few days later. Taking the heat for a self inflicted wound by the owner who didn’t have their backs would be insane in these circumstances. They are two well respected guys in the hockey world who will have jobs again really soon. Dolan on the other hand hasn’t shown any competence in running a major league franchise.
  21. Explaining it only makes their decision look worse. The one angle shows that it wasn’t a cross check at all (like Mantha was in the process of delivering).... it was one hand on the stick and mostly glove in the face. I think the “even though Buchnevich’s actions were defensive in nature...” sentence probably would have been better for them to leave out if they didn’t want to look foolish. Player accidentally gets his stick up while defending himself against a player who is attacking him” seems to make a suspension unsupportable to me. Give him the high sticking penalty and that seems fair enough. What do the Rangers care at this point though? They can get their revenge by trying to knock a Capital out of the playoffs... The blue shirts are going to be golfing in a week.
