To be fair... she is basically just a kid and we were all dumb at that age. I had a bunch of NHLers at my house years back, it was a couple weeks after they won the Stanley Cup (and no they didn't bring it... bastards). I was shocked at how young they all were and even immature for their ages as they spent their teen years completely sheltered playing hockey 100% of their time. These were guys from small towns who literally went back to the family farm in the summers to work. Worldly is not a word that I would use. So I think it is reasonable folks don't pile on. I am just glad my stupid days were before all those things would get recorded for posterity.

It makes no sense for us to actually sign anyone before the expansion draft. Why sign guys and use up protection spots? Edler and Hamonic are going to have to wait, they can't sign anywhere else until after expansion so it isn't like it costs us anything. We have Myers to expose so don't have to sign anyone. If we want to keep Myers, we can sign someone really cheaply to expose, or trade some low end AHL prospect for one.

Never mind Ottawa... the unfair thing is some teams got to play us more and gain the easy points. It isn’t fair to the other teams to miss that opportunity too. I don’t see them cancelling our whole season, but I can see shuffling things so our Ottawa/Calgary games are at the end and don’t have to be played if both teams are eliminated.

All I could find is some reddit post which has since been deleted accusing her of flying around in her private helicopter without a mask. The comments seemed to suggest she was on the Helijet between Vancouver and Victoria and had taken her mask down to sip some coffee. People are allowed to see their own households. People are allowed to travel for work when required. People are allowed to have coffee. This seems like a bunch of nonsense from folks who need to try to shift blame for the virus onto a person because it is easier to understand and feel like they are in control of. Super bad taste to be posting this ridiculousness on a thread literally about healthy young people who are by reports really ill and having doctors caring for them.

It was reported by Dreger that it is the Brazilian variant that is going around the team. Much more contagious. If that is the case, presumably some more cases over the coming days. More positives on top of the 9 already confirmer as of late tonight. Hope all is well with them and their families (who won’t be part of the count and some of them are almost certainly going to fall ill).

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Thatcher Demko
Provost replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nobody seems to be freaking out over Demko’s deal. ... and an ELC isn’t the same thing. The bonuses are pretty standard for high picks. He is signed for $925k -
I am assuming it will be Myers exposed and not picked up. It would be great if he was. We can still ice a defence for next year. Hughes-Tryamkin Edler-Hamonic Juolevi-Schmidt
-
We probably can’t afford Edler anyways. We will have around $5-6 million to sign 8 players once we have Petterson and Hughes on bridge deals in the $6.5-7million range. One can hope expansion helps us or we are allowed to buy out players like Holtby.
-
Ummm... everyone is aware of this, including me. It sure what you are saying here and why you quoted me.
-
If we have both Edler and Hamonic that seems likely... though one would think that you would try to keep Edler’s minutes and games to begin more limited. If each Edler and Juolevi played around 50 games (slightly more than half assuming someone else gets hurt over the course of the season and they both play in some of the same games).... that would cause me zero headaches or worry. We have Schmidt and Tryamkin who can play both sides so pairings in case of injuries can always get worked out. Hughes-Tryamkin Schmidt-Hamonic Edler/Juolevi- Myers Rathbone as 1st extra injury call up would get a reasonable number of games with how many injuries we always have. Those pairings allow Hughes to play fewer 5v5 minutes and be more PP focussed. Tryamkin and Hamonic probably end up really having the least ice time as they wouldn’t play special teams often.
-
I don't even think we need to worry about that part... if he is a 3rd pairing guy, he is worth what he has been asking. I would sign him to a 3 year, $2 million per contract so we have him club controlled for a little while. All he has to be is an upgrade on Benn for that price... and that is 2-3 times what he could make in the KHL. Hopefully he signs with some term rather than just walking to free agency. There is obviously an ideal spot for him beside Hughes. That doesn't mean he would really be a top pairing D, because he wouldn't get the PP minute Quinn would... so Tryamkin in that spot probably plays 16-18 minutes a game which would likely be 4th-5th in ice time amongst defenders. We would need a solid all around pairing to take bigger 5v5 minutes and PK time to complement that though. Schmidt-Hamonic could actually be really good at that.

Honestly at this point it makes sense to have all our Ottawa and Calgary games switched to the end of the year. Then they can just be cancelled if the teams are eliminated. We have to keep playing teams still in the mix so they keep a fairly even schedule and no one is disadvantaged.
-
No... you can pick up as many guys as you want and it doesn't affect your position for claims.

Virtanen 4 points in 32 games this season (0.13 ppg), averaging 12:24 ice time Svechnikov 5 points in 10 games this season (0.5 ppg), averaging 10:47 in ice time Virtanen is a poor man's Svechnikov!

Well that seems doable!

Ya, I don't see why you don't put in a claim for him. It is the kind of reclamation project that makes sense. He has never had more than one organization so could blossom under a new regime. He hasn't been an elite scorer since junior, but .3 PPG in his short NHL career averaging under 10 minutes a night isn't a great sample to throw him away. Another lottery card for a cheap middle six winger we need for next year as it is really unlikely that we can afford Pearson. Honestly, we should be trying to waive a couple of players like Roussel right now in the hope some team takes a flyer for a playoff push.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Thatcher Demko
Provost replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think I you missed the entire point. In what universe should 25 games make in that thought process do a 180 to the point the organization is willing to make that long term bet. If they were confident enough in his potential, why insulate him to the extent and not just sign a veteran back up. If they weren’t that confident in him... how does 25 more games suddenly make him our core starter for the foreseeable future. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Thatcher Demko
Provost replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It is kind of odd that Benning was so worried about the risk of Demko not being ready that he went and signed another starter for big money. .... but 25 games played later (and even some of those not being great), he now believes in Demko enough to give him a long term contract as the 12th highest paid goalie in the league. I mean, I like the bet on Demko... but it seems like a huge about face without much extra info. Could he not have signed the same deal a year from now after a 1 year extension? Was the worry about an offer sheet? I am guessing there are enough (even good) teams who need goaltenders that wouldn’t mind giving up a mid-late 1st and a 3rd for an NHL ready guy. -
So with games likely postponed until Mid May... at least we might not be mathematically eliminated until later!
