[Report] Lias Andersson requests trade from Rangers
Provost replied to Ossi Vaananen's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don’t believe Madden is ever going to be on our roster in a meaningful way. I don’t even know if he ever signs with us. If I were him or his advisors and saw our roster at centre, I would stay in college and then become a free agent and sign close to home. He would also be hitting the point of trying to crack the roster right when Podkolzin and Hoglander are, so trying to convert to wing would be tough... and we aren’t going to be putting all 3 rookies in during years when we have playoff and Cup aspirations. He is probably going to get moved, the only question is for what. Sell high while he is having a good season. Even in a smaller, faster game... he would be the lightest player in the entire league, and doesn’t project to get a lot bigger when already 20. -
[Report] Lias Andersson requests trade from Rangers

I love how the prevailing wisdom is that this guy is an unredeemable bust from t he same people that have urged patience with Virtanen every year since he was drafted. 1. You ask Petterson his thoughts about the player. 2. You trade for him if the response Is good and you can shed some salary in the process. 3. Something like Madden and Baertschi for Anderson and a 3rd If the reports that folks here have said are that it is his pace and motor that are the issue, I don’t see our scouts being high on him as that is t their profile for our system. The scouting reports don’t seem to indicate that at all though. -
We shouldn’t be carrying 14 forwards At all, we have only been doing that because of Loui. For years we have been carrying 8 D instead. It can only help development to platoon guys up to spend time with the big club, they they don’t have to stay for so long they get stunted on playing time. A guy like Rafferty could benefit greatly by having a few stints with the big club practising and getting used to the environment in preparation for actually getting g an injury call up and playing later in the season.
-
Eriksson keeps getting saved by injuries... every time they are about to get healthy enough to need the roster spot, someone goes down.
-
I can't really put that one on Benning at all. Sutter was almost an ironman and had missed 3 games total over the 5 seasons prior to when we got him.
-
The amount of sphincter tightening around this trade if we miss the playoffs this year and keep our pick is going to be intense. What a decision to make if we are picking 10-15, will we be better the next year? Do you gamble that we could end up losing a top 3 pick the following year? This trade can't be judged until we know what is going back in return.
-
Hard not to put this on Benning. Trades are hard to make, but he did put us in this position with a ton of dead money that could be used on actual players, and it is on him to mitigate that. It is entirely unforgiveable that Eriksson hasn't been demoted yet. You can have conspiracy theories about secret gentlemen's agreements of him retiring after the season all you want... but they need to test his willingness to ride the busses for the next three years and see if he pulls the plug and retires. He provides nothing on the ice, less than a call up option of MacEwan, or Rafferty who could be brought up and carry 8D like we normally have. The opportunity of having several million dollars in cap space right now where we could actually take on some short term money has never been greater. There are a ton of trades that could be made if we could take on more money than we ship out, basically every team with actual dollars to spend is at the cap and the entire trade market is paralyzed because of it. We could also just be banking cap space so we don't have to push Petterson and Hughes' performance bonuses into next season which could destroy us. The players have to be better, but we have Baertschi and Eriksson's millions of cap space doing nothing for us.
-
Ya, that is the only way a deal makes sense. Trades pretty much have to be dollar for dollar, so money has to go back. Our cap implications would have to be pretty neutral in the end. No trades should happen until we have dumped Eriksson in the minors for a while to really test whether he wants to ride the bus for three years. There is still a chance he doesn’t want to and retires, leaving us completely off the hook. Cap space is so tight around the league, if we could free up the Eriksson money we could be in a really good position to get assets for taking on a little short term cap space... or get a good player from a cap strapped team who might just be a little overpaid.
-
The honest truth is that we can sign Markstrom to any term we really want (goalies tend to get 4-5 years max anyways). The only key is that we don't give him no trade protection. We can totally punt the decision on a starter down the road to expansion when we decide who to protect based on knowing a lot more than now. We could protect either and expose the other, or we could arrange a trade for one.
-
They are a absolutely losing credibility about their mantra of earning roster spots by merit and treating players fairly. Do you really think other guys on the fringe aren’t looking at it and saying it is bull$&!# that they are in the minors instead of Eriksson. They know exactly who is in their way.

... and we are quite possibly not going to re-sign one of Tanev or Stecher in the offseason anyways. Stecher may want to get a chance where the coach believes in him as a top 4 guy and could eat up too much cap space for a 3rd pairing guy. Tanev may want a change of scenery, maybe even chase a Cup with a team like Pittsburgh and a chance to play with his brother. Subban with $3 million retained is a good value. I stand by the idea that the following trade works for both teams. Jersey gets off the hook for more actual dollars since Eriksson has less money owing. Subban if traded now has about $21 million left for 2.5 years... Eriksson has about $8.5 million left. So with 1/3rd retained on Subban New Jersey saves almost $6 million in actual cash. They get the son of a long time popular player on their team, and a younger RD under club control. For us, we get rid of completely dead cap in return for a veteran RD for cheap who has about 100 post season games under his belt where he has been incredibly effective. He isn't a Norris calibre player anymore, but he would probably instantly still be our best RD. To Van: Subban $3 million retained To NJ: Eriksson Stecher Madden
-
Even as a B prospect, Madden might have extra value to New Jersey because his father played there so long and it will be extra interest from their fan's side.
-
20+ minute defencemen are worth a lot of money. We just spent $6 million x 6 years on what outside analysts called a 4-5th D in Meyers. Suggesting there wouldn’t be takers at $4.5 million is pretty ludicrous.
-
OK... so there is an entire Hall thread to keep having these entirely off-topic posts. This is a Subban thread.
-
I could see Shero laughing with his buddies about how insane Benning was if he called with those offers. Hall is almost certainly going to fetch a 1st round pick, and a top prospect.
-
Yep... Subban not being an elite #1 D isn’t the same as him being washed up like Eriksson. He is still eating up over 20 minutes a game. If you are swapping their contracts, you absolutely need to add. Folks also have to consider where prospects, even if they do pan out, would fit into our team. Madden is probably farther away than Podkolzin and Hoglander... plus we have some other guys that might hit the middle six of our lineup as well. It would be a surprise to ever see Madden as a meaningful part of our roster. Added cap space and having a useful player instead of Eriksson is a win. I am not sure about the folks saying it would ruin our chances of signing Barrie... without dropping Eriksson’s cap we can’t afford him anyways. This move would actually free up more space. We only have 1 RD signed beyond this season.
-
New Jersey could be in quite a position to get a boatload of futures by weaponizing their cap space. They have so many ELCs keeping their salary down, they can take on useful players just on bad cap hits in return for extra picks and prospects... Which could also then be flipped for other good young roster players.
-
It probably takes more than that unfortunately... even discounted. Soemthing like: Subbban ($3 million retained) for Eriksson Madden One of Tanev or Stecher
-
Who knows how he would be on a different team... as per the article the team just doesn’t seem like it is a fit on the ice. We can play what if all day. If we get Subban, we probably don’t sign Myers and Ferland. Does that pair being more than Subban and McEwan in the lineup for a similar cap hit? I doubt we move on him at this point, but it is an interesting discussion.
-
Not sure how legit this site is (it has half a million Facebook followers). They are saying that New Jersey May be looking at moving on from Subban and that he isn’t going to be easy to move even with them eating some cap. I can imagine if they eat cap or take a bad contract back, they can get something decent for him. I mean if they ate $3 million of his cap and took Eriksson, I think we would throw in a pretty solid sweetener/prospect/pick. Even a reduced Subban as mostly a PP specialist gives you a ton more than a benched Eriksson. I can’t imagine a PP with both him and Hughes on it... https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/subban-lands-on-trade-block-just-months-after-move-to-new-jersey

Ya, it was clear when Benning was speaking before he very carefully said that Ferland didn’t suffer a concussion.... lots of people read between the lines at what was unsaid... he was having symptoms from his previous one. Misleading but not quite lying.
-
I got to the point in martial arts after many concussions that I would get woozy even if lightly hit in sparring and wearing full head gear. 20 years later, and I can’t be in loud places, have to wear sunglasses all the time, and have almost no short term memory. These things come home to roost when you get older. If this is another concussion he really does need to stop. He gets the rest of his contract in insurance and can be comfortable his entire life.
-
Might be a hint why he made it through waivers...
