[Report] Avs' Nikita Zadorov on the trade market ?
Provost replied to Zigmund.Palffy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This doesn’t sound like in season tinkering, at least some of the deals and dominos that would have to fall if we picked up Zadorov... unless it is at the deadline and we happen to be way out of the playoffs. If we moved Hutton, then Zadorov isn’t bad for a 3rd pairing LD behind Edler and Hughes. Zadorov would probably be better paired with a more mobile guy like Stecher and not Gudbranson... which would mean maybe moving Gudbranson. They want a scoring forward back, what hole would that make in our lineup. It seems like a lot of moves for a pretty iffy player in return. I suspect there are a lot better trades out there unless you get this guy for really cheap like Goldobin and then get another asset for a spare D. -
Ok, Goldy can go away now. I have seen enough, try to get some value before other teams have seen enough.
-
I don’t think he will win the Hart, but if they actually followed the definition of the award (which they never do), he would certainly be in contention. ”The player judged most valuable to his team”. It isn’t about being the highest scorer in the league. The percent of Cancucls goals he is involved in has to be amongst the highest in the league. His GWG are tied with highest. The Canucls without Pettersson are a lot worse off than Tampa Bay without Kucherov.
-
Thanks for listening yet again Jim! ... end of thread.
-
The one thing about Pyatt, is if we are out of the playoff picture at the deadline and decide to trade some forwards... he is perfectly capable of being called up and filling in at pretty much any position in the bottom 6. Much more versatile than Archibald. It is a small thing, but another small check mark in the win column for the trade. (Along with the pick and bringing Demko up)
-
Ok, he can go away now.
-
He has proven himself. He has proven that he is “at best” a 1b goalie. The dude is going to be 29 in a month and has a lot of games under his belt. He is what he is at this point. He may have good stretches, just like any goalie... but it is far fetched to believe he will suddenly become a consistent guy who you can rely on every night to give average or better performances. He may be a player just more suited to be a backup where he gets lots of practice time with the goalie coach to keep his technique sharp. That could be fine for us as we need to begin feeding sheltered starts to Demko and see if he can fulfil his promise, or whether we have to look beyond him to DiPietro.
-
Well that probably means another year in the minors for him. Tough to develop when you are sidelined. That is fine, it also means a small contract when his ELC is done. Also we won’t have two rookies on the left side in the same season.
-
Top 4 potential but no guarantee that he will ever come to the NHL and no contract or club control. Also, no recent NHL play to point to. All that adds up to a very low return for his rights.
-
It seems unlikely that Tryamkin’s rights get traded. You would be trading at literally pennies on the dollar for the “chance” he comes and plays in the NHL and manages to be effective. There wouldn’t be much of a return. The possible upside of getting a top 4 D is way higher than the upside of a 5th or 6th round pick or whatever you could get for his rights.
-
He and his agent have been pretty consistent saying he would honour his contract in the KHL just like he did in the NHL... I think it is a long shot to see him next year. Maybe there is an out clause, and it is the KHL so lots of bad things could happen unexpectedly.
-
Well we will have a lot more signed by the time the expansion draft rolls along, so shooting our selves in the foot seems like bad planning for a minimal benefit. Every One of our kids who turned pro this year playing in Utica will also need to be protected. Again, if we are lucky enough to have extra spots on our protected list, that means we have the ability to trade for guys at a discount that another team would lose for nothing anyways.
-
I thought it would be a foregone conclusion that he plays here as soon as his college season is done. Now I actually believe they can’t do that. Seattle being pushed to 2021 actually hurts us a lot with our kids not being excluded. If Hughes plays more than 9 games this year he is not exempt from the expansion draft and takes a spot on the protected list. That expansion draft may be a good time for us to get another young D for relatively cheap in trade. We probably won’t have 3 guys really worth protecting, so another team who has too many to protect might happily trade that extra guy for an asset in return, at a much discounted value.
-
Ya, as much as we would all like for him to turn into a legit 1st line player (it isn’t impossible) to spite Toronto and help us at the same time... he probably isn’t that. He is an upgrade from what we traded him for. He is certainly an upgrade from Schaller in that spot. It is even possible that he finds some chemistry with the skilled guys and can be a complementary player in the top 6... though not as a guy who is driving the offence on it. Of course it is also possible that after the initial adrenaline of actually getting to play real minutes consistently, he falls back to being a 4th line guy. I will take the good news when I can and be glad we got him, hoping that a couple of goals in his first few games gives him confidence that has been robbed by getting Corrado’ed in TO where he didn’t get to play hockey at any level much for a couple years.
-
That was a solid game last night. Noticeable on most shifts, good without the puck. Pretty tenacious energy guy. Small sample size, but he looking like he is an actual NHL player and not the Forward version of Corrado. We will see where in the lineup he shakes out to, but looks like a guy that can be useful in the bottom 6 if he can’t find a hole with the scoring lines unlike a guy like a Goldobin who is all or nothing. The Chris Higgins comparisons may be pretty apt.

Seattle Expansion Draft - Who do the Canucks protect?
Provost replied to lukchin's topic in Canucks Talk
I am not going to spend any brain cells on this until we know what players we have. Our roster will be half different in 3 years. -
Maybe Granlund needs to get some time on Peterson’s LW. Goldobin isn’t cutting it, and we need to try something new. Beagle is close, so we have some luxury in moving Granlund out of the C for a while.
-
It must be early, you made a mistake. Hughes-Tryamkin Juolevi-Stecher Hutton-Woo
-
Doubt it will happen, but at some point it probably should. In this case you can lay stuff at the feet of Robinson, as manager he had the biggest say in who they scouted and signed, and apparently even decisions at the academy level. i just wish good luck for my friend, managing a team in this spot is almost a no win situation. If he can squeak them into the playoffs, that is the only way to look OK. How much change of systems can the players handle with a few days before their next game. You can’t be the new guy and just play the same systems and set plays.
-
I know Craig the interim head coach well. Good luck to him! Super tough spot to be thrust into, not only the head coach fired... all the assistants as well. Somehow you have to come up with a game plan from scratch for five games.
-
Really solid game. Tenacious guy. Dont be surprised to see him get a look in a top six role. Seems like the kind of player Green falls in love with. Maybe he gets to be the puck hound and physical protection on Petterson’s LW for a spell. He isn’t a real top six guy, but maybe plays the Maroon role complementing more skilled guys.
-
... because the is what #4 defencemen make nowadays? There are many #5/6 guys making more than that. You are paying a little more for shorter term. That is far less in terms of salary cap than the deal we signed Sbisa to and he had never had a plus season in his entire career.
-
Yep, this. Only ELC and over 35. It shouldn’t be too big of a problem to well Best his KHL salary though. A $3-3.5 million three year salary isn’t going to bankrupt the team, it is what we are paying 3rd pairing guys. He jas has always said he would honour his contracts though, so unless there is a specific out clause for the KHL we probably don’t get him early.
