  1. I am going to spend a little time pretending that I live in a universe where we extended Horvat for $7 million x 8 years in the offseason and traded Miller. ….such a nice relaxing thought. Unfortunately we live in the worst Canucks timeline. The guys not under contract going forward are (as always) excelling, and the one signed long term have negative value the moment they signed their deals. I almost forget that it isn’t supposed to work that way.
  2. What does knowing hockey have to do with not wanting a hometown player? Teams all over Canada where we also know a things or two about hockey hype up hometown players, how long did people here want us to sign Burnaby Joe, Kariya, etc.
  3. “Yeesh… this team is terrible no matter how many coaches we go through. I guess it must be the coaches, let’s fire them.” Prepare for a firing, and then Yeo being named interim because ownership isn’t going to want to be paying for 3 coaches. The plan might have been to promote Yeo the whole time as Boudreau wasn’t “their” guy. I still hope management sees the actual problems and dismantles to team to start again. Not holding my breath for it though as all the way back to Gillis and then Linden the owners have been told to rebuild by the people they hired (and then fired because they didn’t want to hear that).
  4. Barry Trotz couldn't get this roster to play with structure. Our D are terrible.
  5. … no, you made a post telling people to stop posting. I didn’t tell you not to post… I told you not to get your knickers in a bunch about people having a discussion in a discussion forum. Figure out the difference and get back to us on that.
  6. Dude… this is the Canucks forums… we still talk about Cam Neely… Michael Grabner… Frankie Corrado… Tryamkin… etc. Virtanen is recent news. Heck, this particular category talks about minor league waiver players that never played for the Canucks. Don’t get your knickers in a bunch because it makes you sad in this case.
  7. “Hey, just a random question… as my agent do you know of any countries with hockey leagues that don’t have extradition treaties with Canada?”
  8. I don't know why they would either, but they don't get to pick up good players for scraps. Presumably it would be Horvat+ for one of those guys, but not by a lot. The Islanders are really good at keeping the puck out of the net, but could also use some help scoring goals especially on the PP where they are atrocious. Horvat is sneakily one of the most prolific goal scorers in the league over quite a long stretch with 42 goals in his last 82 games.
  9. For what its worth, Eklund is saying Horvat is the target, I could see that... but as much as I like a guy like Pulock, he isn't worth nearly the value of Bo. As a main piece, to me it would need to be Dobson or Barzal.... other secondary pieces going one way or the other to even things out. Dobson gets us the 1st pairing RD we need, or Barzal gets us younger and faster and might be a good fit with our skilled wingers as someone who is a better playmaker than Bo.
  10. Well that is super cringey and gross. ”I know some black people so can’t be racist” followed up by a vague comment about how the disabled kid was also at fault for being bullied for years by these popular hockey players?
  11. As much as I would love to believe in a magical world where we offload all our expensive veterans for packages of assets in return and then replace them with better younger players in the offseason… there is no actual path to do that. It took a 2nd round pick to offload just over a million dollars in Dickenson and he was a useful cheap player. We do have to decide to blow it up.
  12. The season is going to be long... no need to rush into it. Let the cards play out to the 20 game mark and then be bold. Then you have given the room all the chances to show they can win. Rathbone playing the last 60 games isn't going to be different for his development than playing 70 games. If they are still sucking wind and don't decide to blow it up, then it is time to really start losing our shit. There are teams with injuries that could use our journeyman guys like Pearson, there are teams near the end of their windows who might want an extra push by adding a piece, there are teams on the upswing like Buffalo that has a hard time getting UFAs and could be tempted by Miller. We have a lot of players that are moveable. The bigger decisions are on Petterson, Hughes and Demko. Those are probably offseason moves to tear it down further.
  13. Dude is 30… if he hasn’t learned how to play 60 minutes yet we may have a problem. We have 2 more losses in the next 8 games before it becomes impossible to get to .500 by game 20. Need to be 5-3-1 at worst in the next 8 before the season is effectively a write off. At that point it would be a long shot to make the playoffs.
  14. There are a lot of things to complain about so far about the current regime… but it is Lou that is well known for playing games and being an asshole to other GMs. He could have easily just have wasted time as a defensive move to avoid a division rival from making a deal.. and then pulled out when the clock ran out and there wasn’t time for the Canucks to get another good deal in place before the draft. … or any other dumb game
  15. Miller is on a points streak… trade him for Dobson now!!! :D
  16. We have played so many other teams not in playoff positions, how do we not have a winning record. I do not look forward to a stretch of games against opponents who are over .500
  17. The Rangers still seem like the best fit for a trade. They have a lot of D, a good hunger of young D prospects in the pipeline, and and are lacking scoring. They have a lot of guys signed long term, and are lucky to currently lucky to be hanging onto a wildcard spot with their bad goal differential. They need to make hockey trades to get better. Miller, Garland, or Hoglander would be decent fits for them. Schneider, K’Andre Miller, Robertson… any of those would work for us.
  18. Yep, and if this doesn’t happen quite soon it is full rebuild time from the ground up including Petey, Hughes, and Demko. At this point we also need to get a couple of NHL ready players in return if we want to retain Bo. If we don’t commit to him and he gets close to free agency we won’t have him either as it would he dumb to not test the market and go to a team where he can win. This all should have happened in the offseason, I don’t buy that there weren’t deals to be had, their job is to be creative and get it done. Other GMs came out of worse positions and did better to improve their teams. In the immortal words of a sports genius “This isn’t the ‘try’ league; it’s the ‘get it done’ league” Add at least one legit too 4 RHD in season with these moves and find another one in the offseason with the extra cap space we make. Find out if we can extend Kuzmenko for reasonable dollars or pump and dump him at the deadline as a rental. If anyone doesn’t see that two complementary RHD are the key problem with the roster… I don’t know what to say at this point. OEL isn’t terrible, he is just being put into a position to fail partnered with Myers. Same as the other pairings. Hughes- Shot suppressing D OEL - Shot suppressing D Schenn-Myers Stillman-Burroughs … that is at least an average or better D that should be able to get us to the playoffs. No more adding 3rd pairing guys and hope for the best. Find guys for the top end of the roster which pushes others down to where they should be. Myers is a great 3rd pairing guy who can play a decent number of minutes. Asking him to be the prime shut down 2nd pairing guy and that is where he gets into trouble.
  19. That is a very good way to put it. We knew (or should have known) that the BEST case was that you were overpaying for a player who wasn’t going to be worth his cap hit later in the contract.
  20. 7 points in 9 games playing limited minutes and no PP time. You can find several posts where I said Dickenson was my pick for a bounce back season. He had been too good in his role for too long before coming to Vancouver. If the same trade was done for Poolman I would have been happy. Giving up a good pick to shed a tiny bit of cap on a player that even on his down stretch is still one of your top 12 forwards doesn’t seem too wise. He has positive value at some trade deadline as trans are trying to get insurance for low cap hits. All we did with that extra cap is being in Bear who is a 3rd pairing D if he gets it all together again. Those guys are a dime a dozen for cap hits thst can be buried if they don’t work out.
  21. Of course… that is what happens to teams that are terrible. No idea why people are whining about Friedman pointing out that there are scouts poking around.
  22. There have been other reports of teams circling the Canucks “like vultures” for their young players… like would happen with any team struggling like this. I don’t see why people are getting their shorts in a knot over the report. It isn’t like he said there was a trade imminent. I can also tell you that there aren’t random scouts at every game and every team. Organizations just don’t waste money like that. Maybe they were on a swing west… maybe they wanted to look at a couple Canucks players they don’t see often “in case” something progresses… maybe the Canucks have started putting the word out about wanting to make some changes and we will see lots of scouts over the next few weeks.
