Rumors making the rounds are the problem originates in Europe. Just rumors though. Deutsch sounds like a potential candidate. Incidentally that's the only bank who'll loan Trump money lol. They make great decisions. -
What does this do to the draft if they resume playing in July?

Some food for thought........... What is the New York Fed responding to? They just handed out a half-trillion at 30-minutes notice Thu 12 Mar 2020 17:36:10 GMT This is a move to stop some kind of bleeding The best-case scenario is that the Fed noticed some disjointed conditions in the Treasury market -- wide bid/ask spread -- and decided to act. It's their job to provide liquidity and their responsibility to ensure smoother market functioning. What spooks me is the timing of this announcement. It came minutes before a bond auction that still had a 4 basis point tail. The kind of fall in equity markets along with extreme volatility elsewhere is the kind of thing that sets off bombs inside of banks, funds and the financial system. There can be hidden losses anywhere and they can cascade. The statement said "adjustments have been made to these schedules to address temporary disruptions in Treasury financing markets" which sounds like some major understatement. With it they announced a three-month, $500B loan program that was to take place in less than an hour (it's taking place now). A second three-month $500B operation will take place tomorrow. To me, this sounds like someone is on the brink and needed money today. -

Dollar cost averaging will take out a lot of the guess work. Dividend paying stocks are nice too. Always nice to get paid to wait. -
More perspective, factories were running full steam, many global markets were at all time highs, People were allowed to go anywhere they wanted, schools were not shuttered, buying toilet paper did not involve getting into fist fights.

Sorry for dumping this in multiple threads but it's important.......... Been saying like a broken record the Fed will come to the rescue. Here you go. The Fed arrives with a fu**ing bazooka............ New York Fed to conduct purchases across a range of maturities Thu 12 Mar 2020 16:55:57 GMT Fed launches fresh repos The New York Fed will conduct a $500B 3-month repo operation at 1:30 pm ET, among others. They will also expand Treasury purchases beyond bills -- that's fresh QE. That's a big number. It's good the Fed is on the ball but it also suggests there are major liquidity strains. Someone on CNBC noted that municipal bonds are being sold. That isn't mom & pop investors adjusting their portfolios: It's someone who needs liquidity. more in the link https://www.forexlive.com/centralbank/!/new-york-fed-to-conduct-purchases-across-a-range-of-maturities-20200312] ************* The Fed will not risk a 2008 style credit crunch. -

Jagmeet Singh (@theJagmeetSingh) Friends, I am at home today, feeling unwell. I have been in contact with a doctor and they do not believe I have symptoms consistent with COVID19. But their advice is for me to limit contact with the public until I am feeling better. Twitter · 24 mins ago

Some more info on Trudeau and the potential virus impacts on the Canadian economy. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeay says he's self-isolating because his wife is sick and they're awaiting testing on COVID-19. "The doctor's advice to the Prime Minister is to continue daily activities while self-monitoring, given he is exhibiting no symptoms himself. However, out of an abundance of caution, the Prime Minister is opting to self-isolate and work from home until receiving Sophie's results," read the statement. "The Prime Minister will spend the day in briefings, phone calls, and virtual meetings from home, including speaking with other world leaders and joining the special COVID-19 cabinet committee discussion." I see that more as a reason to worry about the virus than a reason to sell the loonie. However there are plenty of reasons to sell CAD. The Canadian dollar fell to the lowest since 2016 today, touching 0.7219 (1.3881) and it's now fallen for eight straight days. We're at the tipping point for a much deeper fall. Canada is undoubtedly headed towards a recession and there are major risks that could undermine the base case of a quick bounce back. A sudden stop in the economy like coronavirus creates major black swan risks, we're seeing that in oil. No one knows where the risks are hidden but there is certainly the chance of a knock-on from oil. There is talk about the US halting oil imports. Would they halt from Canada too? Then there are a host of banking risks. Those are always hidden until they blow up. Finally, how many Canadians will run into hardship if they miss even a few paycheques? Canada waiving waiting periods for employment benefits is a start but Canada immediately needs the things we saw yesterday from the UK and Trudeau out of the picture isn't going to move that along any quicker. The budget is March 30 but they need to move that up asap. Even if Canada does its absolute best, the loonie is a price-taker for global growth. This is going to be a severe hit and that's not priced in right now. We're right at the tipping point with all old lows now giving way. I think we're on the way to the 2016 lows. *** The chart is USD vs CAD, so it going up = CAD going down.

They have completely outlawed the wet markets. But that's just going to drive them underground. I read it's a $74 billion dollar industry so it's not just going to go away.

There's literally no place to hide. Gold and silver are being used as a source of funds. Bitcoin is -25% today. It's chaos. S&P triggered a 15 minute trading halt for the 2nd time this week. Good luck man. Let's maybe use the recession thread for this type of stuff and keep this thread on topic.

COVID-19: Can you be infected with coronavirus more than once? As researchers scramble to learn more about the coronavirus, which continues to spread across the globe, several questions remain unanswered. One of those questions is, if you become infected with COVID-19 and recover, are you immune to the disease or can you be infected again? Second cases reported Last week, the Japanese government reported that a woman in her 40s, who had been working as a tour bus guide, had been re-infected with the coronavirus, testing positive after having recovered from an earlier infection. The woman, a resident of Osaka in western Japan, first tested positive for the virus in late January but was discharged from the hospital after recovering. She tested positive again on Feb. 26 after developing a sore throat and chest pains, the government said in a statement. The case in Japan and another similar second-positive test reported in China earlier in February have raised concerns about the recovered patient’s immunity to the virus. Stanley Perlman, a coronavirus expert at the University of Iowa told Global News that when it comes to these cases, officials need to determine whether the patients are really re-infected, or if the virus was “never really cleared” from their bodies. Either way, Perlman says it is a “puzzling observation.” https://globalnews.ca/news/6623287/coronavirus-multiple-infections/
