  1. I'm glad Leafs and Oilers choked. I hope Benning uses these playoffs as a negotiation tool with Pettersson and Hughes to say team crippling deals are no good
  2. Well they bet on the 2 guys to do more as they tied up close to 23m on them. Getting 0.6 pts / game at that salary is not good value. This is a good learning point for Canucks in the upcoming years with Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser and co As much as I love them, if they pull a Marner or Matthews, we've got to say no at one point if it prohibits us from building a solid team. We're seeing that with Oilers as well. 2 players can't win you a cup.
  3. I would honestly rather have our roster and have hope for the future rather than Oilers or Leafs I feel like their window is closing while ours is opening. Thornton and Spezza at 700k each trying to win a cup in the twighlight of their career while no shows like Marner and Matthews are combined to make 23m while putting up 4 and 5 pts each lol. Gotta feel nice for Spezza to beat Marner and match Matthews' output while making 6% of what Matthews makes lol.
  4. LOL too funny. Leafs got a penalty for a clear hold. When the arm extends out of the body and grabs the opposing player who eluded the defender, that's always a penalty (especially when it takes away a scoring chance) That make up call though was exactly that. Crease battle that happens all game.
  5. Yup. It wouldn't be a good game 7 unless Leafs pop one in early to close the gap right? These announcers are terrible... Crying about non calls on Mtl when I've seen non calls both ways.
  6. LOL even if the refs wanna help, what do you do when Caufield deeks you and is about to create a scoring chance. Arm out and grab is an auto call. The makeup call with 0.2 left though was weak...
  7. Man, I really think Hoglander can be a skilled version of Gallagher. Wouldn't that be amazing..
  8. Watching Spezza play pisses me off lol. We should have made that goof retire after claiming guys like vesey....
  9. Who knows what it takes for a player to wake up. It took Kassian a couple of trades and crashing into a tree and getting help. For JV, it might be almost facing a criminal sentence and seeing his NHL dreams dissapear to wake up Problem is, we saw glimpses of Kass' play making ability and vision when he played here. Jake is more of a tunnel vision down the wing and shoot type of guy. So maybe I'm just hoping for a Kassian like turnaround when all evidence points elsewhere..
  10. Whats with all the Dougie Hamilton love? Is this another case of shiny new toy / grass looks greener? I live in Cgy and he was ok. Ppl were. So excited when he joined the team but meh...
  11. holy crap 82.7 mil and we call Aqualini cheap lol
  12. We save 900k this year but how much will next year cost us? Also, moving him to Abbotsford could insulate some of our young guys as he is still a dependable player and Aquaman doesnt have to sign a vet for th AHL team... Who knows, maybe he would be up for mentoring the youth in his last year... He does play a solid 2-way game. Unfortunately, the game has passed him at the NHL level.
  13. On the other hand, this year, with the lack of scouting available and the draft being more of a crap shoot, if a team's strength is scouting and they feel confident, this could be the year where they pick up a lot of gems in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and maybe load up. (Unless this is a concensus bad draft year like JV's year where not many 2nd rounder and onward made the NHL)
  14. Jakes combination of size, speed, physicality and a great shot was what was so tantilizing at the draft. If he ever learns to protect the puck and cut in from the outside, its game over. But if that never happens, he'll still be a serviceable bottom 6 player but not enough hockey sense to make him a defensive specialist.
