  1. I don't see what the risk is in firing Newell Brown and hiring someone else. Could it be worse? Is it worth a shot? Guys like Bieksa have commented that Brown is an excellent PP coach and the players aren't executing. Problem is, I haven't seen success on the PP since 2011 and that even dried up in the finals. If our guys haven't executed in nearly a decade, we either need new guys or a new coach
  2. Only saw last part of 3rd but Hogs was flying out there tonight. Hughes looked good too. So did Myers. If we were going to miss the playoffs and crap the bed, this covid year was a great year to do it. (Esp with Petey out) 1)High draft pick 2) we don't have to suffer through a losing 82 game season. 3) Stanley Cup will have an asterisk. 4)Youth got some games in I'm really excited about next year. I think this shows management we don't need overpriced vets on bottom 6
  3. I tuned in for final 13 min. I was happy to see our guys play with pride and put out a good effort until the end. Boys were skating hard
  4. I literally turned on the game 10 seconds before the 5 on 3 goal, Saw all the celebration (TV was on mute), assumed that was point 100 and shut it off. Lol that game lasted 10 seconds for me. I don't know if the league is rigged or inept but it's one of those 2 for sure
  5. Yeah most of the problem is the lack of movement once in the zone...
  6. I wondered today, would having Beagle made a difference? Looking from all aspects including leadership and pride / backbone that he shows every game. I don't think Rousel would have made a difference but I do wonder about beagle...
  7. Thanks for your comment. I am excited about him and Lind and Gadj and soon Podz. Stoked to hear he played well. I think I was honestly hoping the Canucks would push to make the playoffs (Esp when Mtl was fizzling). Maybe I'm dealing with the disappointment right now and need to get out of this funk. Lol
  8. I'm in a weird situation. Been a die hard fan since 93. Used to have season tickets when I lived in Vancouver. I've had seasons where I haven't missed a single game while living in Alberta. I've watched bits and pieces of the last 6 games with very little interest. If I'm feeling like this, Canucks aren't in a good place. I stopped watching because it feels like our guys are just going through the motions to finish this season. There is no pride, there is no fight. The pride is to the extent of not getting blown out 6-0 and it feels like our team is content with a 4-1 5-2 loss type of games. If the team won't show up, I don't see why I should either. I feel like they'll show up next year ready to play. Maybe then I'll show up ready to watch. Sounds like a bandwagon type of thing to say but it's not. It's because I care. I say the same thing to my kids. If they won't put in effort whether it be piano or soccer / baseball etc, don't waste my time. Put in the effort, I'll practice with you and help you improve. In the case of the Canucks, put in the effort and I'll watch and spend money.
  9. Gaudette was traded for peanuts and Virtanen may never play for the Canucks again... In hindsight, Toffoli is looking pretty good right now haha
  10. What's frustrating is that we're not as bad as what the team is showing. They look like they are on the pk the entire game. I feel like our guys threw in the towel as well
  11. I'm laughing and I noticed I'm not caring as much as I used to but I honestly hope that apathy hasn't set in on the players. Once that happens to a sports team, that's a toxic culture and all the years of overpaying for vets would have done absolutely nothing...
  12. It's good that the youth is insulated to avoid the losing culture lol
  13. 2 VS 1 Lost board battle = goal Horvat and Pearson VS Thornton
  14. Did Podz get cut from the national team?
  15. Well good thing we helped Rittich get his confidence back. I felt bad for him last time.
  16. If we play Lind and he plays well, do we need to protect him at the ED? whereas right now, even if hes exposed, because he's unproven, chances are, Seattle wont take him?
  17. I agree Roussel, Eriksson, Luongo cap hit, Baerstchi cap hit, Spooner cap hit and arguably Beagle and Sutter (although I think we needed at leat 1 of the 2 centres) is the reason we lost Toffoli Picking on Jake when we literally have millions in the Pressbox or not even on the roster seems wrong.
  18. True I really didnt want to give up on JV. ...he has steaily improved yearly and went from 20 pts 3 years ago to 25pts next year to 36 pts last year. That is like a 30% increase. Logic would be that things are starting to click for him and it wouldnt have been out of left field if he followed up with a 45 -50 pt season this year. If Jake could be a 50pt player and bang bodies, he would be a very coveted player and things were starting to trend that way. That being said, we knew TT was a solid top 6 player so if we knew JV could never be one and best hope was for him to be a staple on 3rd line, then maybe that was the wrong move. Here's a question, scrapping this year aside If we know JV was going to turn into a 45-50 pt player on the 3rd line that bangs bodies and plays with speed at a 3m cap hit, is he more valuable than a top 6 winger who gets paid 4.25m or higher and produces 65 pts a season? (What TT is projecting curretnly playing his absolute best) My dismay is more that JV is having an off year while TT is playing great (even so, he is on pace for 65 pts and is a -1 playing top 6 minutes while Jake is a -3 playing on bottom 6 with less ice time). If JV can pick it up next year, I would feel much better about lettign TT go. Also, not sure why I turned this into JV vs Toffoli I would have let Roussel, Sutter, any of these other contracts go before lettign Toffoli walk
  19. Man...hindsight is 20/20 We got rid of AG, Roussel and Beagle are injured Our top 6 are Boeser, Miler, Horvat, Hogs, Pearson, Petterson. Pearson should really be a tweener between 2nd and 3rd line. It really should have been Toffoli in the top 6 and JV gone and Pearson moving down to 3rd line. The solid bottom 6 players on this team is pretty much only Motte Should have been Motte and Pearson as the locks on bottom 6 with 4 spots available between Sutter, MacEwan, Hawryluck, Vesey, Highmore, Beagle, Roussel, Lind, Gadj. Most of the guys I mentioned are serviceable players on a mediocre team. We have Pod coming that would only leave 3 more spots in the bottom 6. One key gaffe (losing toffoli for JV) really screwed us up this year.
  20. Yeah no harm but I like what Jayce brought to the team... Is it just Lind we want to get in or are there other prospects as well? For example Rathbone platooning with Chatfield or Juolevi Gadj? Funny thing is, I doubt amy of the new bodies would be much of an improvement over existing ppl until they are further developed...
  21. So I see a lot of ppl asking for youth to be played at this point of the season. Players are gassed and we need energy. Which vets do we need to sit? Roussel and Beagle are injured Pearson is actually playing well. Is it just Sutter? Who plays centre and PKs then? As far as I know, most of the other fill ins are young? Vesey is even getting scratched.
  22. I just added the playoffs clip for funsies. You're right. Ottawa has played much better than the beginning of the year but my point was that if you can't beat Ottawa at the most crucial time of the year, you don't deserve playoffs. You asked whys that? They've been really hot... Looks like we're going in a loop.
