Well, this isn't good... Getting dominated

The fact we even had CHatfield play over OJ a couple of games ago in Ottawa is mindblowing. I'm really hoping we don't know the rules and that this is somehow making him Entry Draft ineligible? Looking at number of pro seasons played and his age, that is incorrect but still, there is no explanation for this

I'm not really liking how everyone is dumping on Holtby. Last game against Mtl, our D was like Swiss cheese. He made a LOT of key savings (breakaways, point blank shots) We even went to like 5th round of shootout What more do you expect from a backup? He let in 4 goals and the SO but I do wonder how Demmer would have done. He could have stolen the win or he could have made some saves Holtby didn't make but may have also let in some goals that Holtby stopped and still lost. We deserved to lose that game with the amount of quality chances we gave up and hanging that loss on a goaltender seems wrong to me I just reviewed the 4 goals and they were all screens. (From our own D-men incluing some that even went through their legs) I dont think Holtby saw most of those shots. He also had a huge save on Drouin in OT Also it went to Round 6 of shoot outs... The team needed a better effort and take advantage of Toffoli not playing

Lol... Well today sucked...

I think the team that has the highest likelihood to choke is Edmonton. Also they are essentially a 2 man team so with one key injury, their playoff chances are in jeopardy. We have very similar amount of games played and if they lose tonight, they're only 5 pts up with one less game played while we play them 5 more times head to head. A 3-1-1 record would tie them but they would have the wins tie breaker and have 1 game in hand so yeah, maybe we need to go 4-1 That sounds pretty tough but they need to treat it like a playoff series and I can see Vancouver winning a series 4-1.

No kidding... Even after such a huge run, we've made up very little ground. I know you're a huge fan and it's not like you're anti Canucks. You're simply speaking to stats and percentages. With 22 games left, I believe another way of looking at it is that we need to go 15-6-1 to make the playoffs. Huge games are OTT x 4 (need to win all) Oilers x 5 (need to Go 4-1) Flames x 4 (need to go 3-1) That's going 11-2 in those games. Remaining games against Mtl, Toronto and Winnipeg we need to go 4-4-1 Doesn't have to be exactly this but we if we can gain points against oiler and flames in our head to heads, bouts us in a good spot. We're only 60% through the season and playing like a completely different team than when we started Conversely if Oilers or Flames go in a slump, things can change really quickly as well. This is the year when there will be much bigger swings due to condensed schedule and the sheer amount of 4 pt games.

I am not in that lockerroom so I have no idea what the problem was. Were they saving energy for the Mtl series or was that their best effort and their best was to barely beat Ottawa? We got outplayed both night and were lucky to come out with Ws. I get that athletes aren't machines but their inconsistent play when season is on the line makes me question whether this team has what it takes...

Edmonton beating Winnipeg didn't help the cause today. I still think Edmonton is our best chance. We play them like 6 more times,. Have the even number of games played and back 8 points. That means we control our destiny still against them. Who knows. One injury on McDavid and that last spot is ours... Time to tell Erikson to sweep the leg.

Jester's dead.

I do agree that leaning on Demko every game is unsustainable. That being said, we did start our 6-1 streak by sweeping Toronto and we did it pretty convincingly. I would have liked to see us dominate / control the play vs Ott so heading into Mtl with lacklustre play is concerning. Every player needs to be on same page on Friday to beat their forecheck. That being said, we are doing this without Petey and Beagle. I have started to see Virtanen playing better Motte just came back. Let's finish the next 4 games strong and then take a well deserved week off and rest / heal up.

If we could somehow sweep Mtl and go 1-1 or 1-0-1 against Winnipeg and finish the next 4 games 3-1 or 3-0-1, I think everyone will jump back on the wagon. That being said, the last 2 games vs Ott suggests we might be in for a reality check. Mtl played tonight as well and technically, their travel is worse (coming from Winnipeg) and we'll both have back to back Fri and Sat. We need to put together 2 of our largest efforts this weekend. and hope that momentum carries us into Winnipeg. Let's start with one W on Friday night!

We eeked out 2 wins against the Sens in OT and SO. I hope they were saving their energy (unlikely) because Mtl is going to slap this team back into reality if the boys don't play with some desperation. Green, you know Mtl is gonna go out on an all out blitz on the forecheck.... Please have an answer for this because we all know it's coming

Fair warning all my game day drinking friends.

Ooooh that explains everything... -
Yes Minni is looking better this year but their record could also be attributed to playing Coyotes, Ducks, Sharks and King's all season long. That is easier than our division bottom feeders which is pretty much just OTT (and us) The fact that the even the King's have a winning record shows that beating up on multiple lower tier teams can inflate perception. As for the Blues and covid, yes I did read reports that during stoppage, some players contracted it. The GM said they only started to feel better after playing in the bubble but prior to that, they didn't get to work out etc. That sounds similar to the Canucks excuse that they haven't had enough practice time and days off to start the season to properly get ready yet we aren't acknowledging that as an acceptable excuse.

3.5m seems to be the minimum wage as a bottom 6 Canuck.
-
Still think we should have claimed spezza and made him retire lol
-
Well....we did just beat Minni and St Louis last playoffs and took Vegas to game 7 so technically, we are better than 2 of those teams.

Starting Toronto series, we are 5-1 and make it 6-1 if we win tomorrow. Our only real stinker was that Mtl game. Its obviously a huge uphill battle and can quickly turn bad / impossible if we lose 2 in a row. What I would like to see is killer mentality tomorrow where we run up the score early, then roll 4 lines and keep everyone fresh for the back to back in Mtl. If it's a close game and we are playing Hughes 30 min, I would hate to count out our boys but it wouldn't be a good sign moving forward.

Super long shot but Canucks have 5 games VS Sens and Oilers and 4 against Flames (14 games) If we go 4-1 VS Oilers and 3-1 VS Flames and 5-0 against Sens, do you think we would make the playoffs? My belief is that Mtl is going to make it. That means I am cheering for Mtl to beat the flames and Oilers everytime they play. That leaves final spot between,.us,Oilers and Flames. Its imperative that we either sweep them or come close. That leaves 10 games between Leafs, Mtl AND Winnipeg where we need to sport a winning record like 6-4 So remaining season we need to go 18-6 while beating Flames and Oilers in our series. I am optimistic but that means we need to bring our A game every night. Our effort level yesterday was puzzling but they eeked out a win. They really shouldn't be saving anything in the tank right now. I'm talking as a hopeful fan when the odds of doing what I wrote above is very slim. Canucks need to take it one game at a time and play their best hockey to, have a chance. I think quality of competition for remaining games will be a huge factor in playoff outcomes. Oilers last 6 games would look disastrous if they didn't sweep Ottawa 3 in a row. I think they have the toughest schedule remaining. Oilers fans are worried because they watch every game and know how they play when not playing the Sens. (only 2 games left VS Sens btw) Oilers remaining games Toronto x 2 Mtl x 6 Win x 4 (12 games VS playoff teams) Ott x 2 (2 easy games left) Flames have Tor x 5 Mtl x 5 Win x 4 (14 games VS playoff teams) Ott x 4 (4 easy games left) Canucks have Tor x 4 Mtl x 2 Win x 4 (10 games VS playoff teams) Ott x 5 (5 easy games left) Remaining games are VS each other. When I look at this, Canucks have the easiest remaining schedule when not facing Oilers or Flames. That alone should shave a few points. And then we control our own destiny when playing flames and Oilers. If we lose to them, we don't deserve playoffs anyway... Final thought. Oilers and Flames play each other 5 more times. Best case scenario is no 3 pt games and a relatively even record with flames edging Oilers 3-2. This ensures one team doesn't run away in the standings and we are relying on us and the remaining teams (Tor, Mtl, Win, Ott) to beat them Hopefully battle of Alberta heats up and bodies get banged up in the process
