Also if after all this, they miss the playoffs but go on a great run, I'm not disappointed that we didn't tank for a high draft pick. The Canucks aren't pretenders. Every season, we'll see an underperforming team go on a run in an effort to gain self respect. We normally see this led by veterans. The Canucks have been in my opinion outplaying their opponents since Feb 8. There was a 2 week stint where their play wasn't reflected in their results. However it's the young core of the team that is leading the charge. Whatever run they go on this year will make them better next year.

Absolutely. Also we are chasing Edmonton and have 6 more games VS them. If we can't beat them in the series, we rightfully don't deserve a playoff spot Edit I think we need to run the table on Ottawa and go 7-0. There's no reason why we couldn't unless we didn't give it our all... That would be 21-16-3 If 65 pts make it, our other 16 games needs to be 10-6 in which we play Leafs x 4 Mtl x 3 Oilers x 6 Jets x 3 I think it's doable no?

Looks like the only way Sens can help is injuring McDavid and Draisaitle otherwise Oilers look like they'll continue to roll.

I think most of us are hoping he comes back As fans we have no idea what's on an Athlete's mind sometimes Take Toffoli for example, when we traded for him, ppl were crying saying we wont be able to re-sign him because he will go back to LA His wife works for the Dodgers or some sports organization etc... He then signs in Mtl We have no clue

Yeah I had written him off too but he could be like a Higgins type vet when we go on a run in the future. 2nd/3rd line tweener. The question is, our top 6 projected players are Boeser, Horvat, Pettersson, Hogs, Pod, Miller In 2 years when the rest of the cap hits come off the books, will Pearson be better compared to other 3rd line wingers?

Reading through the polar opposing opinion of the state of this team makes me shake my head. As a lifelong fan, I've never been this excited when looking at a Canucks team. As some have mentioned, we have beaten the Leafs, Habs and jets in a span of a week. Our guys have come together and are playing a really high calibre level of hockey. We were One game away from knocking out the Knights after beating the defending Stanley Cup Champs and The Wild. This year's been a weird year in terms of training camp (lack off) condensed schedule, lack of practice time, new faces etc. Especially as a young group, this is an even harder adjustment. We finally got through it and guys are playing like we thought they would (after last season) I was confused in Jan and Feb because the guys on the ice were playing so far below their potential it was puzzling. TG and Benning then talked about lack of rest, practice time etc. We then see them pick it up starting the last Toronto game we lost. Since then, they outplayed their opponents but had no puck luck and still continued to lose as teams would capitalize on plays that went against the flow on our breakdowns. Even then, I said the boys are starting to play well and controlling the game. Now we are still playing well but getting some puck luck, timely goaltending, and winning games. I care about the team playing the right way and we are doing that. If this team miraculously makes it into the playoffs, I have no doubt that the opposing team will be concerned because they know how good we are. (certain fans just don't) Now imagine in 1.5 years when all these cap hits are off the team. We are literally left with our best players and a crap load of capspace. Anyone not understanding how great of a position we are are super shortsighted. We may make a run this year but in 1.5 years, I will guarantee that we will get to round 2 of playoffs at minimum. I feel like the Canucks were right there with the Habs if not better and fully deserving of the win. How many posts and near goals did we have last night? The main difference was the key save when Hughes turned the puck over giving Armia a breakaway. A couple weeks ago starting the final Toronto game that we lost, we were out playing other teams and those types of plays resulted in goals that broke our backs. This team is a really good young team but we'll only go as far as our goalies play for the next few years until we eliminate these types of blunders. Markstrom made those saves last year and we're starting to see Demko do the same (hence the wins lately) 2 other chances I remember is the Miller turnover and the Rousel turnover both up the middle in our zone. That being said, if some of our posts and near misses went in, those mistakes wouldn't have been as glaring. Yesterday was a battle of 2 really good goalies and our guy won

I look at these lists and I like our guys more. Every single one of our guys has character. Even party Jake. If he was any other guy getting crapped on, benched, singled out consistently like he has while being in Vancouver, there would have been character issues and he would have been traded by now. What has Sam Bennett accomplished to say he wants out? I wish Jake would focus and train harder but that sometimes comes with maturity. The fact that he hasn't rocked the boat throughout gives me hope that he's just a late bloomer. Juolevi's career is just beginning after getting derailed by injuries. He has looked great this year and I'll be surpised if he isn't a bonafide top 4 soon. As for Boeser, Pettersson and Hughes. We're pretty happy am I right? -
How does JB unload bad or anchor contracts for good prospects or draft picks? Is he Jesus turning water into wine? Yes JB is responsible for the bad contracts to begin with but to demand unrealistic expectations is not fair to him either. I am encouraged that he 1) didn't trade those anchor contracts in a package with prospects and picks to get ride of the contracts 2) chose to ride it out. We are going to be in a great situation in 1.5 years I trust JB

Totally agree. Firing JB now is for mismanaging his signings 3 years ago. Since then he's drafted well and not made the same blunders. At this point, we are less than 2 years away from having everything come off the books. The question is in 2 years when we have a clean slate, do we trust JB to be the architect of a championship calibre team or is there someone better available? I don't know if there is someone better or that knows the young core as well as JB as he's the one that picked all the kids -
The main issue with the Canucks is 1)forwards break out too early in our zone leaving d-men handcuffed and turning pucks over 2) d-men pinching with no Forwards backing up. It happens mostly to Schmidt and Hughes (our top 2 offense minded forwards) The players have stated time and time again that they play their best when they play as a 5 man unit which means they know what they are supposed to do. Problem is, when they are not doing that and leading to turnovers and goals against, where is the accountability?

Ferland put up 4 pts in 14 games with the Canucks. The problem with stats is that it can be manipulated to say whatever you want. Those 14 games are a really small size. What if I was to drill down further to tell you that 3 out of those 4 pts came in his final 3 games where his last game was only 1:19 TOI before leaving the game. (so more like 3 pts in final 2 games) What if in those games, he was flying out there and being an impact player after finally adjusting to a new team after his first 11 games? We don't really know what the final 68 games would have looked like. I do agree though in regards to contracts. Maybe we need to hire someone else to do the contract negotiations. I do like the players he's targeted more recently like Miller, Hamonic, Myers even Holtby (although I was initially against it). Holtby is a team player and signed on a short term to give Demko breathing space. I personally didn't think he needed it but when we look at how Demko started the season, maybe he did need Holtby. If we had signed Markstrom and Tanev to those contracts that Cgy gave out, you would say the same thing about him not learning his lesson and repeating the same mistakes. You complain about Myers age when contract expires. Tanev is the same except he plays a style that is harder on the body (resulting in numerous injuries every season). We effectively replaced him with Hamonic on a 1 year term. And did you want to keep Markstrom for the next 6 years at a high cap hit when we have Demko emerging? The only pain felt this year was Toffoli but I see that more as Toffoli wanting to go to Mtl than us not having capspace for him. Why else would Toffoli jump so early in FA to sign a discount contract rather than giving other teams a chance? If his contract was the best that his agent could get, the agent should be fired -

I think labelling Juolevi's ceiling as bottom 6 is short sighted. He's had many injuries that hampered his development but is looking very solid in his rookie year. Ferland LTIR may be seen as a blessing for you but I see his injury as a detriment. I would rather have a healthy Ferland running around banging bodies and chipping in goals. It would also allow guys like Jake to play bigger too. So the question is more, should Benning have known that Ferland wasn't fit to play? Maybe Benning thought if he's fit to play, he'll help the team but if not, he'll be LTIR? Myers? I absolutely love him on this team so we see things differently there. You are right though about not knowing whether he has learned from his mistakes for future signings with the capspace. There is a trust gap for you in that you think he'll make bad signings once the current bad signings come off the books (hence better to get rid of him now) I see it more like he has his fingerprints all over the young core of this team. He felt the pain of losing some key players due to his earlier blunders. His priority is the young core. He will sign them and then fill the rest of his roster as required (being smarter with contracts this time around) I already see that with signings like Hamonic and Holty (on a 2 year). To me, I'd rather go with the guy that constructed the young core of this team and that made mistakes in the past but seems to have learned from it -

That's a good point. Did we expect Hughes and Pettersson to be this good this fast? I'm glad they were immediate stars but a 5th and 7th pick normally take a few years to develop. If they went the normal trajectory for development, guys like Eriksson, Beagle Sutter, Roussel would all be average veteran players on a bottom feeding team that is rebuilding. The fact that Hughes and Pettersson were immediate impact players made the contrast in the bottom 6 greater. If JB came out during Pettersson draft year and said he doesn't see the team being competitive until 2022 and everything before then is bonus and set the right expectations, would we be this upset?
