Besides Toffoli, would would be ok with the contracts given out to Tanev and Markstrom (love those guys btw) or would we be complaining in 3/4 years when Petey, Hughes, Boeser are up for huge raises and we don't have cap space because we have a highly paid goaltender in his mid 30s and an injury prone dman?

We just need the expiring contracts to expire. JB has done a good job since his first few seasons of signing veterans. He's been smarter with the cap. Losing Toffoli sucks but that was the result of his first few seasons blunders. Everyone was fine with him last year. Not much has changed but now we all want someone's head

I think most ppl were happy with the Toffoli trade. They question was whether he would get re-signed. Canucks were on a playoff push and losing ground with Boeser out. The move was to make the playoffs (which they did). Ppl wanted him re-signed. Problem was, the cap problems from years past reared its ugly head. It goes both ways. We got Miller when Tampa was in a cap crunch we got Schmidt when Vegas was in a cap crunch. Mtl got Toffoli because we were in a cap crunch. It sucks that guys like baerstchi, Erikson, Sutter, Rousel, Beagle, Ferland, Luongo were the reason we couldn't sign him But to also call for bennings head now seems a little late. This wasted cap has been there for years and a lot of us saw this coming. For me though, his moves the past few seasons have been great. Most of these issues were from many years ago which was forgiven by his last 3-4 years

Professional athletes aren't ok with not playing hard and getting blown out. They wouldn't have made it the NHL if they were ok with that. The issue is with the team being out of sync and being mixed up in their assignments. Most of the problem is between the ears. If they were losing by 1 or 2 goals, sure we can chalk it up to not having the horses while playing in a tough decision. What we've seen for the past 4 games isn't that

I for one thought we had an improved d core. Now ppl are saying Markstrom bailed them out (which is probably true) but id like to see stats of high danger scoring chances faced which back this up. There is no way this team is bottom 3 in the league and not only that but losing in lopsided affairs with consistency

Have they even had a closed door meeting yet? I thought guys like Miller would grab the bull by the horns but it seems like the vets are checked out and the youth is in over their heads. I thought signing guys like Rousel, Beagle Sutter was there to insulate the young guys so they develop in a competitive environment? The lack of fight back further exposes the wasted cap space. I still think we have a bright future but the Calgary series, the 2 Mtl series and the Toronto series show that our bottom 6 vets aren't good enough to stabilize our young core

I just don't want any panic moves to salvage the season. I like our young core of Horvat, Boeser, Pettersson Hughes, Hoglander, Demko I like the secondary young guys like AG and JV Chatfield and Juolevi, Motte I like 25% of the vets. The turnaround will take time (some bad vet contracts to run out), our young guys to develop. I mean develop in terms of learning the 2 way game. Now's not the time to trade out the above pieces for a quick fix because that might make us competitive right now but less competitive in the long run

LOL what do you mean? Finishing checks can be done by everyone. Petey was even doing it tonight. I would like to see Macewan and Jake in next game with a specific instruction. Finish every check There should be no reason that the opposing player can skate, play the puck and keep skating past a canuck who stands there flat footed but that's what I'm seeing every game. A lot of this is on our forwards for making it so easy for opposing team to break out with speed

How many years are we away from being a contender? Do we have the right pieces in our young core (as they are still developing) The vets that we do like (Miller, Schmidt Myers, Edler) will they still be high performing players when we are ready to go on a cup run? When are all the bad contracts coming off the books? What are we missing? Do we have time then to fill the holes rather than making a trade in desperation when it doesn't really matter?

What's his ice time in relation to the tire fire of a team we are seeing? I see the problem more with decision making of the team as a whole. I see turnovers from everybody but with Quinn, the problem is, he doesn't have the strength or size to battle the opposing forwards when the puck gets turned over. You're right in that this isn't a good look for a defensemen (someone who's bad at defending) but his role fits a puck possession team (which we should be) but we are making a ton of mistakes right now which exposes his weakness
