Totally agree with you. We are almost done the rebuild. It would be a shame to come in now and negate all the good they've accomplished. Sometimes young guys take a step back. It's one of those years (with covid shortened season to boot) The only thing that worries me is that this reminds me of the Oilers. I remember watching the 2017 playoffs with the emergence of McDavid and Drais where they knocked off the Sharks and then took Ana to game 7. At that point, as a Canucks fan, I was worried that this was the beginning of the Oiler dynasty. They haven't been relevant since though and missed the playoffs from them on... I just hope a losing season this year doesn't become a habit

I think Jake lacks the maturity because in his head, he's still a 7th overall pick who made the NHL in his first season. I don't think he's mentally prepared to be a bottom 6 mucker. He is a primadonna. He goes out to clubs, loves to party. Hangs out with Bieber. Bottom 6 guys don't do that. Jake wants a celeb life and has the natural talents but didn't do anything with it. I think best now for Jake is to put him on 3rd line with skilled, hard nosed players like Pod and AG and we could see a top 3rd line in the league for years to come. Jane needs to know he is on a line that can put up points While my expectations of him dropped, he still put up 0.52 pts /gm last year while underachieving. His saving grace is that he still has a good attitude and isn't detrimental to the team

Wow, the heat has been turned up on JB. I felt like he's done a great job the past few seasons. The true mistake is his first few seasons with the signing of the veteran bottom 6 and Ferland's contract last year. I still don't see all the gloom and doom here though. TT would have been nice to keep but that's it. We were on an updated trajectory and took a bump this year. There's tons of money coming off the books and our core players are all really young. We're still set up really well for the future. What if his drafting was Gillis level bad? We'd be really screwed and there's be no hope

I still think Jake and AG can be serviceable players in the bottom 6 and we may not be getting the same back in a trade. When our top 6 consists of Horvat, Miller, Petey, Boeser, Hoglander and Pod, we still need a bottom 6 after Beagle, Rousel, Eriksson and Sutter leave. Think of all that cap space leaving and replaced by Motte, McEwan, JV and AG (all who are quite young and still developing) we need 2 more bottom 6 On defense, we have Hughes, Schmidt, Myers, Edler Juolevi, Chatfield. Edler will be getting older, Chatfield and Juolevi should theoretically improve. We will have tons of capspace to fill any holes such as a top 4 D and a top 6 winger while the young core continues to develop I think we're doing ok guys.

The Canucks are playing horribly this year. I don't think a knee jerk trade like trading Boeser will accomplish anything. If anything, it may make them play up to potential again. I think this is the year we play through our bumps and bruises. We have a bright future with our young core. We thought going into the season our defense was solid but it has shown holes. We're seeing gaffes from both forwards and defense leading to turnovers and odd man chances. In a covid shortened season with so many variables, I think the right thing to do is be patient with this group

I don't know what is wrong with this team. Did the playoff success get to their heads? They were a team that had no quit last year. They are a team that throws in the towel this year. They are on the losing end of most of the puck battles while Hogs is playing like the only one that cares / comes out with the puck. I don't know if a shakeup trade does anything these days. Normally a coach gets one trade before he is canned. However, I don't want to give up on JV or Gaudette. Do we ship out a vet like beagle or Sutter to make a statement? Or do we wait until the dust settles this year and make offseason changes? I'm thinking the latter

You are absolutely right. Our inability to make decisions quickly has us playing in the soft areas. If your going to pinch, do it right away without hesitation or you'll get there late. If your going to back up, make that decision quickly instead of getting caught flat footed in no man's land. If you pick one of the 2 options and do it at 50%, it's not going to work regardless of which choice you made

Mtl and Vancouver in terms of battle level, smart decisions with the puck were night and day. Is it coaching or is it the players' lack of attention to detail? When we have vets like Beagle cough up the puck trying to make a pass up the middle instead of board and out, it shows the team isn't playing well. Miller is on a free skate minus the shift after Hog got hit. That's the only shift he played with some fire. We are faster and more skilled than them and similar size. No reason they should be running us out of the rink. Mtl is taking direct lines at the puck, we are doing sweeping turns. This level of play for a team of this calibre is not acceptable. They need to snap out of it.

I'm hoping we see some great counter attacks today with guys being a lot more tighter on their assignments. The Mtl broadcast yesterday was pissing me off too. They pretty much talked about how Canucks beat the Sens 3 times in our recent streak and downplayed how we played well. They forgot to mention that we also dominated Winnipeg so I'm hoping we come out tonight and run the Habs out of the rink.

The memo should be out on the Canucks. All out forecheck pressure and our team will turn into giveaway machines. Calgary did that and so did Mtl. I hope some adjustments are made. Canucks are great when they have that split second to make a decision but when time is taken away, they don't know what to do. Is it because they're still learning and not experienced enough yet to break the forecheck pressure? I feel like once they get it, we'll see a great transitional team. We also have fast players with skill but they just don't process the game fast enough currently

Would you take Chatfield or Macewan? I guess it depends on who the other teams expose
-
Looking at the roster I believe Canucks will protect 7+3+1 Forwards Protected Horvat, Boeser, Pettersson, Miller. 3 out of 4 below will be protected leaving one exposed. Forwards = one of Virtanen, Motte, Gaudette and Macewan will be exposed Defence= one of Chatfield or Juolevi (Schmidt and Myers protected) Edler = FA, Hughes exempt I personally think we'll lose a forward

I think a lot of fans like trade ideas / proposals just because they have fun making moves (in their head) It's like making moves just for the sake of making moves but incurring risk for no reason / no additional upside) We're a pretty good team on an upward trajectory. I don't see why we would trade JV or AG (2 x 24 yr olds) just for the sake of making moves when both are scoring at 0.52 and 0.56 pts/gm in a limited bottom 6 role on cap friendly contracts. As long as their attitudes aren't detrimental to the team, you need guys like that in the bottom 6. Who knows, in 4 years, at 28 years old, they might end up being 60-65 pt players in a 3rd line role when we are perrenial contenders for the cup. Miller is a good example for JV. He had similar numbers to JV while being a highly touted first round pick by NY. I think JVs numbers are one year later in terms of development. It wasn't until 2 trades later that he's now a solid player. I like the fact that while our top 6 is looking great (especially with the emergence of Hog), JVs floor is a bottom 6 role. Trading him now either gives you a bottom 6 guy with no upside or a 2nd/3rd rounder which is a crapshoot anyway. Ppl forget that we had guys like Higgins, Lapierre, Torres, oreskovich, bolduc, etc during our cup run. In 3 years, JV, AG, Motte, MacEwen should be better than those guys
-
LOL what report? There's no chance he would pass waivers. How often do you see a 24 year old with 0.52 pts/gm who has size and speed while on limited ice time on a decent contract like Jake? The question is whether JB and the coaching staff can get him to play harder or whether they trade him. No chance they let him go for free.
-
Jake has looked slower this year. It could be that there was no training / pre season and we saw a bunch of guys not look so great in the first 7 games. Problem is, he started with a short leash already after a dissapointing playoffs. He needed to have come in better shape andfaster. I only recall one summer where he worked his butt off
-
I think there's a realistic possibility that he can only play 9 anyway or maybe not even play depending on the world championship and whether they play or get cancelled https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vancouverisawesome.com/amp/canucks-hockey/when-can-the-canucks-sign-vasily-podkolzin-its-complicated-coronavirus-3146135

What a game. Hogs is becoming one of the exciting stories for me this year. Horvat had an ok game. I saw him get frustrated a few times but I like that. I think there's a bit of Miller rubbing off on him which is a good thing. I love the Sedins and know they cared every time they stepped on the ice but as a fan, it's refreshing when a player spazzes at himself for not playing up to his standards. There's more emotion and it pumps up the rest of the team to bring their A game. Boeser, what can I say. His back and wrist must feel better. He is skating much harder in both ends of the rink and looks great out there.
