I hope he stays and puts up 40 goals next year. Would love to see many here back peddle and want to keep him after. The reason why I'm so patient with him is that I misjudged him once. I was one of the stronger voices that wanted him traded 3 seasons ago. I was tired of his slow, lazy back checks, losing board battles etc. He then looked so much better in the bubble and then followed it up by being one of the best players on the 2020-21 team. He was skating much faster and 2 way game looked good. Even led the team in points. I then realized he must have still been recovering from his back injury because he looked like a completely different player. I was expecting him to have a big year last year but he flopped. I then heard about his dad and the end of season press conference. I really think he'll be solid next year. For those that want him gone, please rewatch some games from the 20-21 season. His skating energy everything was so much better. He stood out on the ice And was our best player many of the nights.

[Signing] Kings re-sign Kevin Fiala

Yeah I think when Benning structured the deal for Boes, the QO was probably not even a concern as he was trending to be a perrenial all star. -

Well the aav is close to Boeser QO... -
I think reverse arbitration might brew bad feelings. I'm guessing Canucks looking for a lower annual avg while Boeser wants ot bet on himself with a 1 year QO I think either is good. If we get Boeser on a lower value contract, we know hes good for 50 pts. If Boeser goes 1 year, he either proves hes worth the money which then opens up trade possibilities, long terms contracts etc OR he craps the bes and Canucks can walk away next year.
-
Ok sure. Facts are Boeser has never hit 30G. The main reason due to that is injury but at the end of the day, absolutely no refuting he hasnt hit 30 goals yet as that is black and white. The facts are, he has consistenly been a 45-56 pt guy even with dealing with injury issues and a pretty traumatic emotional season last year. Do we dump a character guy like him even when we have his RFA rights for the next 2 years and enough capspace next year? Seems like an unncecessary risk. I would like Boeser to work on his skating and conditioning this summer. If his feet are moving, everything will take care of itself as he has world class talent.
-
I'm pretty sure Boeser will be back. I can't see management lettign him go when we would still have his RFA right this season AND we arent against the cap. It would be asinine to let him go for nothing.
-
lol and 1st on the Canucks... Short memories eh? What have you done for me lately?
-
Weird becasue I see that Boeser led the team in points in 2020-2021... He also had the 4th highest points in the 2020 playoffs on the team afetr Petey, Miller, and Horvat (1 pt more than him)
-
I agree I expect a big bounce back year from Brock. Anyway you slice it, it doesnt make sense to give up on him yet.
-
Not only that but even if he "handcuffs' the team (ironic that we see a 46 pt season as "handcuffing a team" but even if we said that was handcuffing the team, we are still a playoff calbre team and I have no doubt we will make it to the playoffs this year. Even if we let Boeser go and sign a 7.5m Forward, how many additional points is he going to get us over Boeser? 25-30 pts at best? That is probably the point differential if Boeser craps the bed this season and we go and sign someone for 7.5m. Will that be enough for us to win the cup? Probably not. I'm willing to bet that replacing Boeser for a guy like Fiala still wont get us any further. we might end up with another LE taking up 6m capspace for many seasons.. Or Boeser can come back this year and put up 80 pts. I just dont think we gain much by letting him go. In fact, I think it's an unecessary risk when we can keep him for another year and re-evaluate. There's no denying that this year was brutal for him. His tears during the year end press conference said it all. There's also so much support from his teammates. They genuinely love the guy and are supportive of him. This is a how team identity is formed. You help one of your friends get through one of the toughest moments in their lives and achieve success together. Also if managment trades him, what messsage does that send the core? It doesnt matter if you were the darling of the team at one point. We don't care that you went through a potential career ending injury or that your father passed away. If you dont produce, you are out? That's essentially the message. Corporations make similar moves quite often and what it does is poison the work environment and increase disengagement. Anyway, I am hoping for a 1 year show me deal at the QO or a 3-4 year deal with salary structure that is lower in AAV than the QO.
-
Yeah I'm tryign to stay open minded to what you are saying I guess if someone was to ask would you trade Deslaurier and Manson for Boeser, I would say thats a pretty good trade. But DesLaurier and Manson aren't All Stars. We would be letting Boes go in hopes that guys like Kuz, Garland, Podz, Hogz would increase their production while we use that salary to fill other needs. At the same time, I believe the guys like him so they wont see signing him as handcuffing the team. If Boeser comes back with a 70-80 pt season on another team, I would be super angry. I do think Boeser's likeability is clouding my judgement somewhat. At the same time, how much money are we wasting on stupid things like Luongo Recapture, Holty buy out, JV buy out, Halak bonus? And then we let a homegrown talent like Boeser go because we think he's worth 5m and not his 7.5 QO? Seems a bit wrong
-
Yes, I'm not sure if this is possible but if they can bring down the avg cap hit below his QO by front loading the contract and fulfilling his QO amount on year 1, I would be all for it. With a lower salary than caphit on year 3, if things dont work out but he is still a 50-60 pt player, a cash poor team like Arizona would be chomping to get a guy like Boeser and only pay like 3m
-
Yup there's no denying that Boeser is not a line driver. At the same time, are you ok to risk losing him for nothing when we still own his RFA rights? The guy is not an arse like JV. He is a solid character, a good person who's had some really bad things dealt to him. When he crashed into the open door and hurt his back, I remember reading that there was a scary feeling where he didnt feel his legs and thought his career was over. It took him a while to regain confidence in his body and he started to skate well again in the Bubble and then the following season, I thought he was one of our best players. He then dealt with his father's illness last year. The guy was an NHL All STAR MVP as a rookie. He clearly has an elite skillset. I can't believe we are talkign about letting him go for nothing when we still own his RFA rights and have the capspace to kick the can down the road another year to see how it pans out. His value cant get any worse right now. If we were tight against the cap and had no other options I get it but I honestly dont see why we would let him go for nothing this year.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
CanucksJay replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My thought is that BB came in where we needed wins and margin for error was so small that he couldnt try he unknowns like Burroughs. He knew Hunt from Minni so he went with the guy he knew. I'm hoping everyone gets a fresh slate and BB comes in and gives Burroughs a chance to earn a spot out of camp because in my opinion, he deseres it. -

I'm really hoping Bruce is spending this summer watching tapes and figuring out stuff like this. No more of the same stale plays. Having Quinn bring the puck in and free wheeling in the o zone will open up a lot of lanes. Quinn's passing is elite. Once he pulls a guy out of position, the dominos will fall. Man i'm excited for camp lol -

I'm a HUGE fan of Burroughs The only issue I had with BB all year was him picking Hunt over Burroughs. Made no sense to me. Better defensively, more physical, fights and sticks up for his teammtes. I guess every coach has his Jayson Megna... who knew hed be a cup winner lol -
Totally and I believe we have his RFA rights again for 1 more year after so it leaves the team with options

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
CanucksJay replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I had suggested this earlier but didnt realize our guys ended the season at #9 on the PP That's pretty amazing considering how bad we were at one point. But yes, I'd love Hughes to be that guy that gets the Canucks zone entry on the PP and then being the rover while OEL QBs the PP. Hughes is so good at taking it behind the red line and finding open guys when the defense is running around chasing him. THat'll also free up OEL to take more pointshots and I imagine Petey would get a lot of good looks as well. I personally think it's worth a try. -
Man you seem to know alot about him I havent followed Abby much. What happened last year? I heard his play tailed off. Was it just the grind of the AHL season or were there learning experiences he needed t ogo through to get to the next stage of development?
-
What is Boeser worth in a trade? At this point, probably not much. The guy probably had the most difficult year of his hockey career both play wise and off ice wise and still put up 20+ goals and almost 50 pts. We are not in a cap crunch 22-23 season. Dont we want to at least find out if there is more to his game before letting him go for a bag of pucks? Not sure if this scenario is possible I believe JR said that they will qualify Boeser. that means they need to offer him a 7m+ deal (whatever his QO amount is) Can Boeser and the Canucks make a side deal to have him not sign that and sign an offersheet for a lower amount from another team that the Canucks will match as they have his RFA rights? If a team comes in over the QO amount, maybe the side deal is that the Canucks pay him the original QO if Boeser wants to stay but he can sign elsewhere for more where the canucks then take the draft picks as compensation. Most realistic situation to me is that Boeser signs for his QO amount on a 1 year show me deal.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Are there other teams with 2 Really good Offensive D Man making 7+ ? I think if Canucks really wanted to trade OEL, they should just swap him and Quinn's deployment and OEL would probably make it to the all star game. Pretty easy to trade his contract then as well as getting something very valuable in return. The sad part is, Quinn would sink if he was in OEL's deployment with all the tough matchups while being paired with Myers. I just really wish OEL could figure out how to move to RD so that both he and Quinn can log big minutes. Also, OEL is a leader WHen our team was playing like absolute garbage, how many times did OEL (freaking OEL) have to drop the gloves in defense of his teammates while nobody else showed any backbone. To me, OEL is a keeper. You dont get rid of a great player like that because you cant figure out how to fit him into the lineup. You gotta figure out a way. -

Yeah you are absolutely right. I think Petey is the unicorn and there's not many players like him. I quickly checked many of the stars in the league and their takeaway to giveaway ratio is pretty poor as well. I guess when you have the skills, you take the risk to make the play because chances are, the guys you are taking the risk against dont quite have the same skillset to burn you the other way. I dont want 3rd liners playing boring hockey just going glass and out either. I just want responsible play like Petey and Podz but I have to admit, there's not many that play that way -

LOL you're so right I'm trying so hard to get OEL involved but it literally looks like there's no room for him
