  1. I think he would have been better than Hunt. Personally I would have played Burroughs over Hunt. If Rathbone shows well next year, between OEL, Hughes and Rathbone, thats 3 really good puck moving D. they can then figure out their partner situation between Myers, Dermott, Poolman, Schenn, Burroughs, Hunt and hopefully make an upgrade
  2. Holy I didn't realize he was 67. I think he has at least 3 years left in him. Its not like he's the the one playing the games. I guess the question is, can he move around the ice during practice? Retire at 70? He still looks and acts much younger lol
  3. LOL that's hard to do in this league as a coach. The biggest juxtaposition is this past year. The record under TG vs record under Bruce. That along with his career coaching history shows that he is a good coach. I feel like he's had the team running near full potential since he got here. The areas of improvement for next year is hopefully being ready to start the games by coming out and scoring the first goal. The inconsistent effort has greatly Improved under BB and hopefully will only get better. Also a full camp under BB where he and Shaw really communicate how they want the guys to play will be critical. I'm hoping for tighter defence without demko having to stand on his head most nights. I truly think we can get there under BB.
  4. But didn't Aqualini get JR's blessing for hiring BB before JR came on board? I wonder if JR's flex on the coach who the guys seem to really like and play for is to show the team that JR is the boss and even a coach who came in and did a superb job is not necessarily safe. I know if I was a fringe player, I would be scared right now.
  5. The way they're handling this, it almost seems like they are indifferent whether BB stays or leaves which is crazy to me. You should either want him or not want him because you are convinced he is or is not a good coach. The difference between TG and BB was so stark that giving the impression of next man up (for a coaching job) after having duds in WD and TG seems like an unnecessary gamble. I'm too lazy to go back through all the games in advanced stats but I would be curious what our XG VS XGA per game would be and what our record would look like. I feel like it would even out as we've lost some games where we were expected to win as well. So far, all we can judge the new brass on is a Motte for 4th trade and a Richardson pickup along with a Dermott for Hamonic trade. None of those moves push the needle in either direction. We'll see what happens with Brock and JT, and how guys will be moved to create cap space.
  6. If I was BB, would I excercise a 1 year option or sign a 3 year offer if another team came my way? I know what I'd do. Seems weird that JR and Allvin are playing hardball with our coach. The best one we've had since AV. Does anyone know when BB needs to decide by? With Trotz available, I wouldnt want to miss out on any potential candidates if BB leaves. Hopefully if another team comes with an offer, Canucks match... I really like BB for this team
  7. I agree They have a good thing going. BB is trying to grow the culture by bringing in the Belt etc. It could have been cringy but it's not. It's worked well. We have a locker room of good guys. I think it would be more disruptive and harmful to the team if we wrecked what we have going. I don't know what we ended the year at but near the end of the season, BB's team was on pace for 110 pts. Losing Pearson and Horvat, and to a lesser extent Hogz and Poolman hurt. Demko was playing injured the last month Trading Motte away at the deadline sucked too. No one expected Petey to be in such a terrible slump the first half We rescheduled games when we were healthy and playing really good hockey We then got decimated with covid Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong this season happened and we still almost made the playoffs.. But also, a lot of really good things for the future happened this season. Petey experienced adversity and fought through it. This will be invaluable in the future and will give him the confidence to fight through slumps Podz took a huge step forward this season. Schenn looks good under BB's system. (pressuring up ice is much better than backpedalling and giving up our own blue line for a slow footed d-man) Burroughs was a great surprise (although BB didn't utilize him as much as I hoped) Hughes looks like a solid 2 way player now Demko is one of the league's best goalies on an amazing contract. I would say we are easily a 110 pt team next year once everyone returns healthy and BB has a full training camp wth our guys. We may not be Colorado but I think we can run wth teams like Cgy and Edmonton no problem and those guys added at the deadline... But even Colorado, we had a game with ZERO turnovers and won the game in Colorado where they have one the the most dominant home records. That's pretty elite. You can't fluke somthing like that. I was literally only dissapointed in 3 of games this season since BB took over. It was the NYI, ANa and NJ game. Oh yeah and that homestand leading up to TDL. That's literally it. Everything else was understandable. Ofcourse a SE roadtrip will suck when you are losing key roster players and playing your 4th string goalie. Ofcourse games will be tough to win without your best faceoff centreman and 30 goal scorer. I see the glasss half full with this team
  8. Watching the highlights, damn, mcdavid is a great player. I get that it's fun to make fun but man is he a talent. He was pretty much responsible for all 4 oilers goals tonight. He didn't get an assist on Drais first goal but he drove the play there too. 3 pt night and the team still loses. I watched the OT goal as well and yes he could have stepped in harder on kempe initially but once kempe squeezed by him, you gotta leave kempe with the dman (Keith). That goal was totally on Keith. He got completely walked outside and Kulak with the far side support was terrible too. Mcdavid shouldn't be chasing Kempe so I think it's a bit harsh to say he didn't back check. Too bad Canucks are rivals or I would be tempted to trade for him if Oilers flop this playoffs Not that I would but just for funsies... would Petey and Hughes be enough to land Mcdavid? 15m (Hughes and Petey) for 12.5m Mcdavid I think both sides say no which means it's probably pretty fair.
  9. Kulak was also terrible. He was the far side dman and kempe cut through him too.
  10. Absolutely. That's why Motte got traded. Same thing will happen to Miller next TDL or even sooner if he doesn't re-sign
  11. To win the Stanley cup, you need to Assemble the best roster possible. In my books that's Motte over most other 4th liners in this league.
  12. Yes but then he got injured and didn't have a coming out party during the playoffs like his camp had hoped. Might be signing at a lower value now. Other teams might be weary signing an injury prone 4th liner while we know exactly what we are getting
  13. Yeah I thought about exactly what you said regarding Motte's injury as well and wondered if he would be the same player when he comes back. What we've also seen unfortunately with Motte is an injury history and the one thing I also see is that he comes back and plays the same way everytime he returns from injury. In that sense, I have confidence he will play the same way. I think he's only geared to play one way.
  14. Yup, unfortunately for him, the injury lowered his value. We know what he brings and how he fits on that line. I don't want anymore gambles like Dickinson, Ferland etc. I think we need to take advantage of the lowered value and sign him. But then again, who knows what his camp is asking for... If we can somehow get rid of Dickinson, Poolman, I'd be all for signing Motte and Deslauriers this off season
  15. Thinking of the future, would you bring Motte back? I certainly would if the price was right.
  16. We'll have to disagree. Richardson did a good job filling in but that's about it. He didn't add anything to the 4th line. He did what most 4th liners are meant to do which is occupy space and take some time off the clock. I would take Motte over Richy all day every day. That being said, bigger, better, greater meaner... Only guy I can think of is Deslauriers. How much will he cost? I'd love to get rid of Dicky and use that money on him. Of course I also want a big fast mean 4th line. Not just goons but guys that can play. Those players are far and few between. I would take Motte over most 4th liners in this league
  17. Yeah I hope management doesn't have tunnel vision in wanting to put their stamp on this team. Allvin traded Motte for a 4th to get an asset for an expiring one. I'm sure he's not gonna just let Boeser go. Hopefully he gets something or keeps Boeser. I would be underwhelmed though if it's like Boeser for a 3rd rounder lol
  18. Anyway if oilers and flames get knocked out first round, I feel like I didn't miss a single thing this year lol Leafs losing as well would be icing on the cake.
  19. So many what ifs to this season.. What if we canned Green earlier What if aqua an didn't postpone games when we were on a streak... What if our team didn't get derailed by covid What if we kept Motte Lol A lot of bad things had to happen for us to miss the playoffs. That's why I am optimistic for next year.
  20. I think we can do a reverse arbitration to lower the qualifying offer amount. Apparently it's been done in the past. I dont think Canucks need to drag Boeser through the mud to do it. I think they have to just tell the league they want to do that and then negotiate with Brock's camp where Canucks could go as low as 85% of the qualifying offer. Hopefully Boeser's camp doesn't get greedy and agrees.
  21. I think we are lucky if we find a buyer for Myers but none for OEL. I would rather move Myers anyway. He has size and sometimes show snarl but too many brain farts to command logging big minutes. OEL is so steady. If Canucks really need to trade him, honestly, just give him PP1 time and he will have tons of interest
  22. I'm ok with getting younger bigger faster by trading Miller. I appreciate everything he did for us this season but his points came with high risk. He was a gambler and won this year. Long term play with risky passes up the middle, poor puck decisions etc will not bode well as he gets older and slower. The fact 2 of our youngest guys Podz and Petey are the smartest hockey IQ players on this team bodes well for us and we need more of those types of guys. That's how you win.
  23. LOL I'm a proponent of getting that 4th liner back. The injury probably really messed up his earning potential but we know what we have in Motte so I think we should sign him. With him on the 4th line, there were games where the 4th line carried the team and actually generated goals and scoring chances. Any offense on 4th line completely dried up after Motte left. Even Lammiko was scoring when Motte was here. I do wonder if a few timely goals by the 4ty line after the TDL would have given us a few more wins
  24. Totally agree with the OEL supporters. He is our most solid defensemen. He doesn't really have any holes in his game. One could argue that he ran a better PP than Hughes. He knows when to get pucks on net and how to get it through. I think if the Canucks really need to dump him, give him PP1 time, let him rack up 50 pts and then trade him. But then again, once he does that, I'm sure ppl will want to keep him... OEL was the least of our problems on D. There's quite a few ahead of him I would rather trade.
