  1. Yeah Poolman situation is tough. I defended him prior to the season but it seems like we haven't really gotten a look at him due to injuries this season. Anything any player has done in the TG era should be thrown out. We should be judging them based on what we've seen under BB. What we've seen is that Schenn looks great for his contract. Burroughs is underutilized due to BB's love for Hunt. Poolman has yet to show anything so it's hard to judge whether he's poor value. The argument that go against him is that lesser paid players like Schenn and Burroughs look fine so do we need Poolman...
  2. If it's Miller long term at 9m, I would rather trade him and keep OEL. I think Miller contract will age more poorly than OEL. OEL is a smooth skater who plays defense with his stick. Those guys have more longevity than a physical d man who gets old.
  3. I totally agree with this. Id say he's been solid for approx 85% of his games. He has the random stinkers but who doesn't. If an attacker was coming into our zone with the puck, I'd be most confident in OEL to stop him over any of our other D. I don't see him lose / miss his assignment very often and he's really good with his stick To me, OEL, Hughes, Schenn and Burroughs are keepers on this D. I'm indifferent with Myers, Poolman, Dermott and wouldn't be too ehart broken if they were traded. If we trade Myers though we need to add a a mobile D with snarl.
  4. We turn around and say we want Luke and Jack for Miller instead. When they try to buy you, you buy them. Lol
  5. It was fun hockey to watch and we were on the winning side more often than not with BB here. Id be happy if the entire season was a repeat of BB's tenure here so far. Excited that he'll be able to review the games and come ready to run training camp with this crew
  6. Yup it made Canucks hockey fun to watch. I gotta admit, I was pvrd and fast forwarded through most of the games under TG starting mid Nov. What a disaster to the start of the season lol
  7. I totally agree with you if we are talking based on this year alone. It would be a no brainer to take Pearson at half the price for a 10 point scoring differential + strong physical and dependable 2 way game. My question is, what is Brock actually capable of? This year is not his ceiling. The guy is 25. He's just getting into his prime. When did we get Miller for example? The guy was traded twice before he got to us. Is Boeser capable of improving his skating and 2 way game? He's been averaging approx 0.85 pts/game since coming in as a rookie. This year is clearly a setback at 0.64 pts. The concerning thing regarding Brock is 3 things. 1) He's been stagnant at 0.89 pts / game or less since his rookie season which was 5 years ago. Is 0.9 pts/game / 73 pts his ceiling? 2) Injury issues. He's been injured every year. This will be the first year he's played 70 games. 3) skating and two way game. If we are building a fast skating team, he is not it. However, can speed throughout the line up create pockets for Boeser where he can find a spot and shoot/score? The problem is that Boeser is super likeable so it hurts to trade him. Fact of the matter is, the team did not miss a beat when Boeser was out. We see what losing a guy like Horvat has done to the team on the other hand. Boeser's agent did a really good job (or JB failed badly) that the QO is not worth it. If Canucks took Boeser to reverse arbitration, is he worth the 6.375? Side note, miller's career numbers are like a poor man's version of Boeser. I think we got Millsy at 26 years old. Prior season to that, he put up 0.62pts / game in Tampa. His career until then was at best 0.7 pts / game. What I'm saying is that it might be too early to give up on Boeser. Really tough call but I think Canucks need to go to reverse arbitration and sign a 2 years 6.375 deal.
  8. Before Boeser and Miller, we gotta move guys like Dickinson. Poolman is a consideration but we haven't seen him much this year. He's looked steady when playing but guys like Schenn and Burroughs (still don't know why we have Hunt over Burroughs playing) might make him expendable. Pearson is another question mark. He's had a seemingly good year and played similar amount to Boeser but Boeser in his really crappy year has still put up over 10 more points. I get that Boeser is in line to make twice the money Pearson does. Can Boeser ever develop his 2 way game to Tanner level? I would put Brock on a 1 year deal, get him a skating coach, make him skip Da Beauty league in the summer and have him train his butt off. The thing about hockey players and their salaries is that stats aren't always linear to salary. For example, would I rather have Mcdavid at 12.5 or 2 players making 6.25? I would take the best player which would be mcdavid. In the Canucks case though, what's better, 2 x 3.15m players or 1 Boeser? That's a tough call and it really depends on whether we are betting on Brock or not. Canucks Army brought up a good point. There is a reverse arbitration process which could bring Brock's salary down to 6.375 (85% of entitled QO) That's what they did with Mason Raymond and that's what they should do here. My guess is that they are already talking to Boeser's camp regarding this. A 1 year show me deal at that figure is 100 percent worth it. https://canucksarmy.com/2022/04/11/monday-mailbag-exploring-reverse-arbitration-brock-boeser-fix-canucks-salary-cap-situation/
  9. If Canucks were fighting for the playoffs, pretty sure refs would have called a penalty on Petey in OT right before the goal. The Boeser conundrum... What do you do... I don't think you can let an RFA go for free. At very worst, maybe a 1 year deal at the high cap hit. The following year Miller and Horvat contract ends and then management can decide which 2 to keep.
  10. I would probably be a bigger fan if there was no game management. This is sports. There shouldn't be such a thing. If I wanted to watch "sports entertainment" I'd watch WWE. If that means some US markets lose their teams due to poor attendance, so be it. I love watching games in Arizona because it's so cheap but they really shouldn't have a franchise. Vegas on the other hand makes sense.
  11. I would play it out and either re-sign him next year or trade him at deadline if he hasn't signed by then. Seems dumb to sign him when he's had his best year of his career and could potentially take a dip next year. I mean look at Brock...
  12. Totally. I'm baffled at how this team was coached prior to BB. When JV came into the league, I saw him pursue the puck taking wrong angles and routes quite frequently. Other guys like Petey came in already making the right plays and taking the correct routes. I wonder how much coaching actually took place. It seemed Travis' motto was play them if they are ready and sit them if they are not. There wasn't much coaching or development otherwise. Same with Hughes. TG would never have thought to put him on the pk. The guy is too old school and one dimensional in his coaching. Now if our guys make the same mistakes in OT next year, maybe the players are just not bright but all the improvements we've seen this year makes me think these guys are coachable.
  13. Fun season for sure. Love the new strategy and changes made by BB. Loved that our d is now stepping up into their blueline instead of giving up Our blueline. Loved seeing Petey and Hughes on the pk. Loved watching our guys forecheck hard and putting pressure on other team's dmen trying to create turnovers in their zone when same thing used to happen to us. We're playing fun hockey again. TG had a BMW and were driving it like an old Pinto. We're not quite a Ferrari yet but getting there.
  14. Man looking at our overtime record kills me. We are 7-11 for OT and shootout Dallas is 15-6 Vegas is 9-8 Nashville is 9-7 LA is 9-10 I think our guys played way too loosy goosy in OT like securing a pt was good enough. A good OT record would have given us a solid chance and there's really no reason for our record to be so bad with the talent in the lineup. Even play keep away for 5 min and go to shootout with Petey, Bo, Brock Millsy I hope they realize how valuable those extra points were for next season
  15. Lol I thought he re-signed and was like I how could he sign so low when QO is much higher...
  16. The boys look like they mailed it in. Schenn is pretty much the only one playing with some pride. Rest of the guys look like they want the season to end.
  17. I think losing Boeser and keeping a guy like Dickinson would be a disaster. I know this would be kicking the problem down the road but if Boeser really has no value currently, I would get Boeser signed and hope he has a bounce back year next year and find a way to clear cap space at the next TDL. If that means Dickinson as a throw in to Miller or whatever... Or. Maybe it's trading Brock himself after he regains value But this could be another Toffoli disaster waiting to happen except Boeser is our home grown talent who is an RFA.
  18. Yup The Minni game showed what size, speed and snarl does. It would have been a better gauge if we had Horvat and Pearson (who are 2 of our bigger guys with one being our top faceoff guy who is also a 30 goal scorer... I also think Burroughs should have been in over Hunt. Hunt to BB is like Megna to WD I wonder what the game would have been like had those 3 played. Maybe they increase the 3-2 lead and shut them down. We'll never know...
  19. I have them at 23-14-8 starting Jan 1. That is while surving a covid outbreak on the toughest road trip of the year. You're right. that's a 98 pt pace after the coaching bump which at this point looks like a wild card team. We are so polar opposites here. Guys like me think this is 100 percent a playoff team while others think major overhaul is needed. Let's hope management knows who the real Canucks are because as a fan base, we sure don't.
  20. We'd have to move guys like Poolman, Dickinson, Pearson. Just one of those guys would offset Boeser's raise and I'm sure there's a taker somewhere.
