  1. Boeser short term at under 6m would be a steal. I would be all for signing him at the price. I don't think that's possible though. As that would mean his second year is like 4m for a 2 year deal to average under 6
  2. Yeah when looking st BB's version of the Canucks, you would have to say this year for the most part was a success. It just sucks that we didn't make the playoffs because we almost made the impossible happen. This wasn't a sort coaching bump or anything. The sample size is large enough to say that what we are seeing under BB is the real deal.
  3. Yeah I'd have to agree on that. I was disgusted at the nyi game. And then Ana. I think one of those games was first home game at full capacity where team should have come out firing. Even BB said he had no idea why the team didn't come prepared. He didn't throw the team under the bus but he did say they talked about all the key things and players were aware of what they need to do and still came out flat and he didn't know why. I personally think that TG has done a really poor job of seeltting the right expectations over the years and apathy crept in through the team. You and I talked about records to basement dwellers. I have TG at a .460 win rate VS BB at 0.750 which is average in this league. I think BB had to coach out a lot of bad habits that permeated in the TG era. The team literally no showed in 1 out of 3 games under TG. We see more like 1 in 10 now. At the end of the day, like you mentioned, the 2 loses above along with that really poor homestand before TDL did us in. It's really unfortunate because the guys have been playing good hockey but they almost had to play perfect hockey for 5 months because of the hole that TG dug. I'm hoping this experience now sets the new standard for the team showing up ready to play. I don't think anyone here will argue that if the team stays intact next season with BB returning, they will make the playoffs. Question is, I don't know how much change will be made.
  4. Yeah. Boeser has picked up his play since returning but you gotta wonder whether management has him pegged as expendable as the team didn't miss a beat while he was injured. On the other hand, we are now seeing how critical Horvat is to the team with losses to Ottawa and Minni.
  5. Yeah tough to say what jb was going for. I would think the latter half more than the first half. He did say meat and potatoes but this team isn't really that More exciting though
  6. I was yelling at the screen like what the hell are you doing! Literally let him go at one point and tried to cover a different zone when there was no one else he should be covering. BB's big mistake was dressing Hunt over Burroughs especially in a physical game like yesterday.
  7. It's more like TG couldn't get them in. BB's record with the same lineup says this is indeed a playoff team...
  8. I have no doubt his defensive game will improve. He's on a normal good prospect career path.
  9. Miller is the ultimate high risk high reward player. Personally I'm not a fan of that. He's like a gambler who is on a hot streak. Every now and then he busts and costs the team a goal. As he gets older, we'll see more busts than wins. I say that because while the skill, heart and effort is there, his decision making is poor too often for a guy looking to make 9m. I'm not set either way we keep him or trade him but if his camp wants massive long term contract, I'd be on the trade side. I'd rather build a team with guys like Petey and Podz. They won't cost you goals but will score goals. Our exec team has analytics dept now. I'm sure this will all factor in when deciding on Miller. Personally the great year he's had has raised his value tremendously. (obviously not as great as TDL) but much better than the first rounder we gave up. My bet is that we can at least get a player who was picked higher in the first round that draft year at minimum which saves us from 2-3 years of development time.
  10. Yeah who has more upside Garland or Hogz? Very similar buzz saw type players. Hogz is great on the forecheck but needs to shore up his defensive play. Garland is currently the better player but I think Hogz might be better in a couple of years. One on 2nd and one on 3rd line would not be bad though as long as they had 2 big forwards on their line. Missing Horvat and Pearson hurt us last night. They are 2 of our biggest top 9 forwards and would probably have made a difference yesterday.
  11. Hughes is an elite defensemen. I like Rathbone but that would be bad.
  12. What's the over reaction? We lost a must win game which pretty much sealed all hopes for playoffs. I get that making playoffs was a tough task but our team fought hard and made it really close when 25 games into the season, we were laughing stocks of the league. Love KB3 but I was pissed when he was talking about how we were a fun team to play against and it was absolutely true. We've come a long ways and I'm proud of how our boys battled. It's still not over (on paper) but even the optimist in me realizes that we won't make it this year. Im thankful that the management team gave this team a chance. They've now had more than enough time to thoroughly evaluate each player and where our team is lacking. I was pissed they traded Motte but weird how sliding in Richardson and Lockwood didn't derail the 4th line. I do wonder if Motte would have provided some scoring punch on 4th line though as there was a moment this season when our 4th line carried the team. The 4th line scoring dried up after he left. One could argue that they might have popped in the 4th goal yesterday when we were up 3-2 and out this game out of reach. Same might be said for Ottawa game as well..
  13. Podz was such a good news story this year. He's a complete player at only 20 years old. Guys like him and Petey are safe bets because of their strong 2 way play and high IQ. Lots were ragging on Petey this year but I just couldn't fathom his slump being the rest of his career. You dont lose your skills all of a sudden. Especially when the fundamentals are strong 2 way play and responsible decision making. Coupled that with effort level and its a no brainer. Bruce said Petey was the hardest worker in practice during his slump. We hear similar things about Podz during practice (how they have to drag him off the ice etc) The future is bright.
  14. LOL who would have thought Boeser might not even be worth a decent trade value ath this point of his career
  15. I guess the question is, how much top tier talent can a team keep? I would say Petey, Hughes and Demko are future Hart/Art Ross, Norris and Vezina candidates. When I looked at Minni last night, I think top tier talent wise, we are there. I felt the difference is that the entire team had size, speed and physical toughness that intimidated our guys from performing their best. We have fast physical guys like Highmore, Lockwood etc but they don't do damage because they aren't big. Those guys are made to be great regular season players creating turnovers etc but if you have a team full of them, it'll get tough when things get physical. Such a piss off that JV was an utter failure. He could have been our Alex Tuch.
  16. Do we bite the bullet and Re-sign Boeser on a lower annual average that's front loaded to meet QO requirements? If he plays well, great. We have an option to keep him or trade him and he increased his value. I just don't like the idea of liquidating an asset on a poor year when he is still young and an RFA.
  17. I agree with this. But There are also some ppl here that whined saying letting Tanev Toffi and Markstrom leave the team decreased morale which led to a downward spiral resulting in the tire fire we had in the first half. I don't see how letting Miller leave would be any different.
  18. Well said. The season was indicative of how we approach many of our games. Came out unprepared. Go down a few goals. Try to storm a comeback. Carry the play and come up short. We need a good start to the season like we need good starts to a game. Frustrating as all the pieces were there for a playoff team. Not quite same level as Minni or some other heavier teams but still a playoff team. Maybe it's better coming up short and making changes now than to keep going down this path.
  19. That's great and I've always been a huge Petey supporter but if Miller didn't play his butt off all season, fact remains we wouldn't even have a sniff at the playoffs.
  20. A coach's job is to coach the team that's given to him. I am confident that BB's future here isn't decided or is hinging on whether a player returns or gets traded. Every player has seen a boost in play since he's arrived.
  21. Great post. Miller and Demko were the sole reason we even had a chance of talking about the playoffs in April. Last night DesLauriers fired up the crowd along with his team by fighting Schenn. I think JB was trying to do the same when he got Ferland. Maybe we should take a run at someone like him this summer. He is a good skater with size and toughness and decent hands. If rather DesLauriers than a guy like Reeves.
  22. We have young stars in every position. We just need to build from there. Today might make some think twice about a long term contract for Millsy. It won't age well. I don't know if he was trying to do too much or what but there were some poor decisions with the puck and many turnovers. Podz reminds me that he is still young. He got neutralized as the games got more physical. Well need to gain some strength to feel comfortable battling the stronger players in the league
  23. Wild were also missing some key players like Foligno. Obviously Horvat is more important to us than Foligno with the wild but their depth and deadline acquisition really impressed me.
  24. Ouch. The boys got outclassed tonight. Proud of their effort. These types of games are a good measuring stick for us. I'm sure the executive team already had an idea of what the team needs and tonight would probably confirm that.
