Yeah that's true. It happens everywhere I guess. Embiid for example was talking about how the refs won't call as many fouls in Toronto which means he'll up his physical play... Hard to be consistent when multiple refs exist I guess.
-
I just think it's funny when refs become part of the game and there's a story in the news about how the players are trying to learn referees' names. They should be non existent

This is 100 percent truth. BB even came out and said he always enjoyed being the aggressor and pressuring the other team rather than being the one pressured. Same goes for the PK. that's why guys like Petey are now on the PK. the guys in the NHL are too good when you give them time and space. That's why even when we had a passive box on the PK, we weren't only allowing shots from the perimeter, we were also getting exposed on cross seam passes (which theoretically shouldn't happen) when 4 guys are in tight box but that's what passive play gets you in this league. Historically low pk numbers under TG. Bang on regarding the difference in stepping up at the opposing Blue line on defence rather than allowing an easy entry into our zone and going into a shell as if it was a pk. Total amateur... Schmidt looked like the biggest bone head when he came because he was the only one stepping up at the blue line. There was no back pressure from our forwards to double team their forward on their exit. I haven't looked at numbers but I believe this style of play also leads to less injuries on defence as we're not hemmed in taking big hits and blocking shots the entire game. I bet Schmidt would look like the guy JB thought he was getting if he was playing under BB. Perfect for BB's system. -
There is no excuse to lose tonight. Vegas lost to NJ last night because they faced a hot goalie even though they were piling on the shots. Same can happen to us but we gotta fight through it and attack the net and score greasy ones if that's what it takes. I hope the guys head into the game knowing this. I have a feeling either Lammiko or Dickinson will score in the paint tonight.

Schenn stepping up can't be understated. It squashed any hope Dallas had of amping up the physicality to try clawing back in to the game. Dallas tried to turn the momentum and Schenn snuffed it out pretty quickly. Schenn literally neutered their team with one fight. It then allowed our guys to continue playing a hard nosed high pressure game. -

Yup. I do wonder what TG had done to gain the media's favor because there was a clear bias in favor of him even when he was clearly failing at his job. Maybe a long NHL career buys him a longer leash... Safe to say that TG won't be getting hired for a head coaching job this summer after all. Ppl said he'd land on his feet pretty quickly but I doubt it. He'll have to go back to the AHL and work his way back up. -

Yup. You were correct. I was blinded by the bubble playoffs and making it to game 7 against Vegas. Forgot to think, could we have done better... Well thankfully we are finally on the right track. -

I would love to get some of the media pundits that criticized the firing saying TG wasn't the problem and see what they say now. They blamed the blue line and suggested dismantling this team... Shows what they know... -
LOL don't complicate the matter my friend. If there is a 80m cap space. Ice a team that complies with that. If players are injured and go on Ltir then replace that space with another player. But when that said injured player comes back, go back to being cap compliant. Vegas is getting what they deserve. They thought they were good enough to make the playoffs while trading for an injured Eichel. Their plan is obviously to activate everyone once playoff starts. Isn't it a miracle that stone and Eichel are now healthy and a few of their players mysteriously end up on Ltir on the same day? Opening the floodgates of cap space once playoff starts is idiocy.

I'm a Benning bro. His fatal mistake was hiring and backing up the wrong coach. Even then I don't know how much of it was his fault. TG was the least paid coach in the league. I have no idea if Aqua gave JB a shoestring budget for a coach. Also all the crappy players that are being named... The rebuild had to start somewhere. Cupboards were empty, we kept all our star assets past their best before date. I look at the current team which is close to JBs final product and you can't deny that it's good. When he was hired, the mandate was playoffs and he did that with an aging core. If you like this current team, you like JBs final product.

MG was a good GM but was terrible at drafting and was too smart for his own good. What I mean by that is how he treated certain situations. Trading Hodgson and then gloating about how they increased his value with better zone starts and line mates and then got rid of him. His cap circumvention with Luongo was a big FU to the league while he sat there grinning. If he kept his head down, I doubt we would have seen a cap recapture penalty (as bogus as it is, they wanted to stick it to the Canucks after that) He's super smart but his need for the world to recognize his intelligence became his downfall. I think he's learned some lessons and would be a really good GM when he gets another opportunity. Sure would have done better than where Seattle sits currently.

The only blemish under BB's 51 games here is that this team came unprepared to play every 1 in 8-9 games. It used to be unprepared every 3 games under TG. We also had crappy starts from TG all the way to BB and started seeing less of it recently. BB is slowly coaching out all the bad habits which take time. Lastly, we've won games and beaten teams like the Avs with Zero turnovers in a entire game. We've beaten many of the top heavyweights in the league. I would love to see this team run it back next year with a full preseason under BB, Shaw, Walker and Co. That being said, I'm still open to trades if ppl are overpaying. -

That's exactly it. How much time did he spend in training camp and preseason trying out AHLers to find the absolute best player out of those guys? He wasted all of that time instead of coming up with a good system and having the players learn it. It's because he doesn't have confidence in his own abilities to come up with a strategy and coach. BB on the other hand... It doesn't matter who's playing... We've now seen Highmore, Lockwood, Chiasson, Dries, Lammikko, Dickinson, Richardson all play better than what we thought they were capable of because BB implements systems that play to their strengths. I knew a coach was important but I didn't realize how important it was until this season. I thought they were all pros and a good coach may make a 10 pt difference in the standings max... BB is pretty much doubling TGs output. -

Yup 30-13-8 says it all. 100 percent a playoff team. -
At the end of the day though, cap exists for a reason. Yes maybe have extended roster but on ice product should be cap compliant or there is no point in having one in the first place. It ruins the parity of the league that the league is trying to create. A rich team can park 10m of space on ltir all season and get an extra advantage when playoffs start where as a cash strapped team can't.

That TG Baumer duo was ridiculous. TG hiring I get. He coached the AHL team and worked up to get a shot. (it's now proven he wasn't ready) Baumer... What the hell has he done to be coaching an NHL defense? -

This team is so unpredictable though. I have no idea how our guys would play if their backs weren't up against the wall... BB at one point was super frustrated with how the team shows up unprepared sometimes. Schenn even commented that young guys need to learn what it takes not only game by game but rather shift to shift. Whether we make the playoffs or not, I hope this is the big learning point of the year. I thought we learned that lesson last year and was pretty disappointed when a lot of the same bad habits resurfaced. 30-13-8 under BB is pretty solid though. They had some no show games but not at the rate they had under TG which was pretty much one in three games. It's really unfortunate we didn't make the coaching change earlier... -

Our brain dead media also said coaching wasn't the issue. This is a 110 pt team under BB. We were a 59 pt team with TG. -

That fight wasn't just defending Hughes. It was a statement to Dallas saying if they are going to try gooning it up, we'll beat up their captain who is also their Toughest guy- 347 replies
