I feel like we are playing much tougher than previous years. We're forcing the issue, stepping up in the opposing zone and going in hard on the forecheck and laying bodies. We were beating Vegas last night by playing that way and they only came back when we sat back but all in all, we outhit them by a wide margin. I don't feel like we've been undersized in many games this year. Unmotivated/disinterested? Yes. But not physically dominated.

That's why I wonder if we really need to blow it up this offseason? I would rather see most of the team in tact and have BB with the group starting training camp. We'd be a 3-5 rank playoff team at the very least. I hope we.only make minor moves this offseason and only make a trade when the offer is too good to pass up.

Also how about will Lockwood? I saw him lay down some hits along the bench that looked painful. We also won the special teams battle which was great. Really liking what Podz is turning into. Chiasson has upped his play and going into forecheck with speed. We played last night missing Boeser, Pearson, Hogz, Sutter, Highmore, Poolman I think it's pretty clear Offseason, we need to unload Boeser. Even if he signs a sweet hometown deal, I dunno if his play style suits us. We are much more in sync without him as we are playing quick aggressive forecheck and that's not his game. He gets in slowly and loses puck possession battles. Pearson, Hogz, Highmore all get in quick and wins battles. I would hope moving Boeser and perhaps even Miller would give us a really great retool without the team stepping back too much. It should still be a playoff team. Or maybe they even give Miller a short term highly paid contract and move out Boeser and his cap hit for a 1st rounder.

While I am open to trading him (for the right deal) , we would not even be in a position to fight for the playoffs if not for Millsy. He's always been high risk high reward. Usually on the reward side. I don't like some of his decision making withe though. I dunno how Podz and Petey are 2 of the youngest guys on the team but their hockey IQ is far above everyone else including Horvat.

All up to Tony Stecher now. Love the guy but hopefully the D is too taxed to keep the kings in it. -

Love that BB can kick their butts if needed because the players respect him. They trust him. True leader. -
Yeah you're being a realist and I'm being a complete hopeful for sure... That said, pretty amazing that Canucks are playing in important games with 9 games left.... Who would have thought this was possible when we were 8-15-2...
-
This would be a great time to have one
-
That would be so awesome lol

While I say all these optimistic things, we've seen this story before many times... How about coming out flat against NYI in our first full Capacity home game and going down 5-0. How about getting hammered in NJ in a critical game while we are catching up in the playoff race? With 9 games left, Canucks are easily capable of doing that twice against teams we should beat. Against good teams like Cgy, I have no idea which team will come out. Very realistic to go 6-3 or even 5-4 to end the season... But then again, not impossible to go 7 - 1-1 either...
-
I love that he plays the right way. Miller is high risk high reward. Podz is low risk with only upside the way he plays the game. That's how you win. His decision making is better than most on the team including quite a few vets. He may hit slumps and not score but they way he plays, he will continue generating chances.

7-1-1 gives us a good shot of getting in if our losses aren't against Vegas or LA We've done it before so hopefully we can do it again.
-
Yeah true we have to beat Vegas as well I think Vegas has the Toughest remaining schedule out of LA, Dallas, Van and Vegas though With the exception of NJ, Sharks, and Hawks they are playing playoff teams or us. They could very well lose the next 3 (van, Cgy, edm)
-
I think tiebreaker is regulation wins (RW) . So OT and shootout doesn't count. We are tied with LA currently at 29 RW. We have a game in hand and if we are in a position at the end of the year where we are tied, the math is that we would have had to have more regulation wins. On the other hand, Vegas beats us in a RW tiebreaker...

Lol this sucks... I have a few grand hinging on Canucks making the playoffs. I think that's why I'm so harsh on TG because I really put the blame on him for this team not sitting in a playoff position. He's gonna have to go back to the AHL and work his way back up. All the media pundits that defended him are out to lunch. The proof is in the pudding. 8-15-2 VS 27-13-8 BB Literally almost doubled the production.
-
Yeah it was. Had we gone 5-0 or even 4-1, it would have put the pressure on the other teams. I do wonder though if we would be able to postpone games on the road though because we did the dreaded SE road trip immediately after the postponed games.
-
Canucks hold tie breaker. They would have more regulation wins We just need to Tie them
-
We have a tough schedule but the teams are all beatable. Toughest opponent is Cgy and Minni I believe. No more juggernauts like Carolina, Colorado Fla etc. It really sucks that they can't afford any off games though. Pretty high pressure. LA has an easier schedule but plays Col and Van. I'm hoping between the 2 Ana and 2 Chi games there's also a couple of losses. They can very well go. 4-4 in the remaining games
-
Absolute things needed to make the playoffs 1) Win the game we have in hand over LA 2) Beat LA in regulation when we face them 3) win one more game than LA in the remaining 7 games. That doesn't seem as far fetched when looking at it that way? I do like that they are playing the ducks twice. Battle of Cali. I'm sure Anaheim would love to knock the Kings outta the playoffs. It's not impossible. Ducks have beaten us like 3 times this year.
-
I think that the team's are on different trajectories. LA is missing some key players and are just trying to hang on while Canucks are starting to press. If there was 20 games left, I have no doubt Canucks would overtake LA. There were 5 key moments in Canucks hockey this year 1) TG era... Just awful 2) BB bump 7-0-1 start 3) Game postponements while we were on a hot streak 4) Team getting decimated with covid after resumption of play 5) Poor recent homestand. I would say we were pretty unlucky. I do wonder now in hindsight where we would be if we played the 5 postponed games while we were on fire and then took the 5 games off when our team was relegated to icing an AHL calibre lineup along with our 4th string goalie immediately after. That being said, we blew it in our homestand when we got 1 out of 4 pts VS sabres and wings. Those 3 pts would look pretty good right now.
-
Vancouver's home record is awful. I have no idea why but they play differently at home.
-
We were 8-15-2 under TG That's a 59 pt pace.... We are 27-13-8 under BB That's a 106 pt pace... Same team folks... Canucks can beat every single one of the teams they will face in the next 9 games. Problem is, they are consistently inconsistent and that's what worries me.. I have no idea which Canucks team will come out. It's hard to expect perfection from them for 9 games straight...

The positive is that we play them in an absolute must win game for us. Looking at the standings and tiebreaker rules, there is hope. The tiebreaker goes to teams with more regulation wins (not OT or Shootout) We would beat LA and Dallas if it came to a tiebreaker. LA is now trending at 95 pts and playing some really poor hockey. If LA keeps playing at this rate, they would finish 4-3-1 to end with 95 pts. Canucks would need to go 7-1-1 which is not impossible...
