[PGT] San Jose Sharks at Vancouver Canucks | Apr. 09, 2022

Podz took the first half of the season playing a safe game while figuring out the league. He has been a play driver the last 10 or so games. His size speed, and high iq pretty much ensures he will be a consistent player throughout his career. He may go into slumps but he plays the right way and will continue to generate chances even when the puck isn't going in. I am worried for Hogz. I really like him and think his upside is a better Conor Garland but he's ended up. In BB's doghouse. I hope the Canucks don't give up on him. He's one of the few that faired better under TG than BB. -

Yeah that's what drives me bonkers about how we are on the outside looking in. This team is one hundred percent a playoff team but that disastrous start to the season (starting from training camp) really did us in. This team has spanked Cgy, Colorado, and beat a.bunch of other good teams like Toronto.. The losses to teams like Det, Buf, Chi, NJ, Philly shows the inconsistencies of this team. Until that is fixed, we will be a 6-8 seed. It does make it interesting though if we somehow squeak into the playoffs.i think we are capable of beating anybody. -

Yeah it'll be tough for sure The good news is that we are playing Dallas, Vegas and LA (all the teams we are chasing). We also play other playoff bound teams like Flames and Oilers but they are beatable. Bieksa mentioned a game a few years ago where the Canucks were playing poorly for a stretch and came in super ornary and aggressive. He commented some of the players on the other team was like "what's up with you guys today? " Playoff bound teams don't want to risk injuries to guys like Gaudreau, Mcdavid etc. I think if Canucks give those teams the impression that to beat the Canucks, they're gonna have to limp out of the building, playing a higher ranked team that is a lock for the playoffs might not be so bad. Took a quick look. We need to run the table and the teams in front of us need to end with 97 pts or less That means LA needs to go 5-3-1 Dallas needs to go 6-4-1 Vegas needs to go 6-2-1 I dunno if they can put up those numbers. LA might go 4-4-1 or Dallas might go 5-5-1 etc 8-1 or even 7-1-1 is not impossible for this team. Obviously small chance though. Man that recent poor home stand pre TDL really screwed us -

Agreed. What I didn't like was the penalty prior. Total BS call with 2 guys jousting... -

Was relieved to get out of the game with 2 pts tonight. We played down to their level and it felt like a bad bounce could have cost us the game. Wish Canucks played harder so that they could put the 2nd half of the game in cruise control but that didn't happen. -
Yeah but in this league you get paid for points. Guy is high risk, high reward and this year he's won a lot more than he's lost when gambling and he's gonna cash in his chips. The bone headed 1 vs 3 in OT and other ill advised cross ice passes drives me bonkers though. I honestly feel like I would rather have a responsible 2 way forward like Podz in 3 years than JT so a long term 9m contract might not age well... If we can trade JT for 2 more Podz, I think we gotta do it. No more small skilled guys though. We need guys that have builds like Podz or Horvat. I feel like trading Miller for 2 guys like a Podz and a solid young D Man will still keep us in playoff contention next year and set us up well in the long run.

Yup. This is a scary team when they are on and like you said, the issue is consistency. Under BB, we've beaten many of the champion contenders in the league (Carolina, Boston, Colorado, Cgy) and by a wide margin... It's super frustrating that losses to teams. Like NYI, NJ, Det, Buff will be our demise and that is precisely what Schenn was talking about when he said the guys are learning what it takes to win not only game by game but shift by shift. I don't think we need to blow anything up but I do think we can create some cap space by moving periphery top 9 players and retooling. I liked what I saw in Burroughs yesterday. We missed him. I would like to see the team finish strong and run it back next year (mainly the same) with a full camp under BB. I think BB, Garland maybe Myers, Dickinson, Hogz may be on the block. And holy crap Podz has come on so strong the last 15 games. The way he plays is exciting. He plays hockey the right way. What a stud.

Dunno what to say... Disappointing... The only positives I take from this year is that there is more clarity for front office to do their jobs this summer. 1)demko is locked on an amazing contract 2)we've seen Petey at his worst and then fight out if it 3) Hughes'contact is a steal and his defense looks way better 4) Boeser's next contract average should be lower than his QO (unless he's traded) 5) Miller has increased his value tremendously. 6) Horvat's ceiling will be a middle of the pack 2C We're at best a 6-8 seed and probably would have made it with BB coaching the full season. There's enough talent / assets for a retool and a full rebuild is not necessary Management gave this group a chance and they failed Now we wait to see what moves are made. -
I find these articles hilarious Just confirms what we've said all along that NHL's pretty much WWE on skates. No one batted an eye when Canucks were getting screwed but now that the darlings of the league are on the short end of the stick, it's become news. What's the point of parity in the league if it's manufactured parity? You're doing the crappy teams a disservice. If they suck, they should lose badly, fire their staff and rebuild. If they don't make it through the rebuild due to lack of fans, they probably should never have been a franchsie in the first place. Really hating how Bettman has turned sports and the integrity of sports into "sports entertainment" . He cares more about attracting fans through bogus reffing than growing the sport organically by producing the best on ice product. What a disgrace of a league...yet we continue to watch lol https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/seravalli-nhl-officiating-a-topic-of-conversation-on-day-1-at-gm-meetings/ https://www.tsn.ca/whistle-happy-officials-chasing-down-hurricanes-1.1778496

Yeah I was super high on Motte and was sad to see him go. I thought he was the mainstay and engine of our 4th line. I then noticed that our 4th line really hasn't missed a beat since he's left and neither has our PK. One thing I'm not sure about is that we've never given him a chance up the lineup. For example, imagine we had stapled Burrows on the 4th line his entire career? Signing a team friendly 4 x 2m gave him an opportunity to move up the lineup. I guess Motte wasn't willing to do the same. Motte also had many chances to score but his shot is average at best. Maybe management didn't see he possessed the skillset to move up the lineup. Although inability to score can be said of guys like Hoglander as well... If his ceiling is a 4th liner with some spot duty on 3rd, then yes, it's not worth griping about. If he however turns into a solid complimentary top 6 player, then we missed the mark. Hopefully management made the right choice. It would have been nice to see though if we could have had 4 well balanced lines while still picking up Richardson. I mean, I'd rather have the current 4th line wit Richardson in and have Motte over Chiasson in the lineup any day. Better puck retrieval and back checking and more speed... -

Proud of the boys tonight. They didn't back down. The refs were complete garbage tonight. Missed the delay of game in the first and the obvious trip on Hughes with 3 min left that gave Minni a scoring chance. If they did their job tonight, Canucks prob win in regulation. Tonight was eerily reminiscent of the Bruins series in how they turned the game into a dog fight while the refs looked away. Liked OEL's game tonight but what the hell is wrong with Myers? He's not terrible but not good either. He was alot better earlier in the season. With his size, These are the types of games he must show up -

I was a Pearson critic when JB offered him 3.25 but he's playing his worth. Motte was a fan favourite and I was willing to even go up to 2.5 for a 4th liner / 3rd line tweener. Glad I'm not the one making the moves. our 4th line didn't miss a beat last night while Pearson was critical in the win. Hopefully management will see who else is expendable at their cap hit and move some bodies in the summer. I didn't think we'd play the way we did last night without Hammer and Motte but Dermott and Richardson were excellent. -

This probably has something to do with it as well. I think Canucks need to lay the body and make every playoff bound team know that if they are gonna beat the Canucks, they are gonna have battle wounds along the way. It might be enough of a deterrent for a team to not bring their A game. -

The broadcast keeps talking about Peterson's ability to anticipate. It resulted in setting up Boeser's goal tonight but we see it often on the pk where he can read the play and know where the puck is going next and get a jump on it. And then he's got the great hand eye to knock down a pass etc. Great decision to try him on pk -

Almo is boss... One of my favorite stories when Keenan was on Mogilny in the locker room. “Mogilny looks up, he’s like, ‘Mike, have you ever heard of how I defected, how they f'ing threatened my family, how they wanted to kill everybody? You think you’re f'ing scaring me?’ -

What a game. It's so crazy how we can't make simple passes one night and then puck movement and breakouts are so quick and crisp on another night. BB had said in an interview previously in a disappointing loss that he can't teach the guys how to pass. I wonder what is up with the guys to be so inconsistent. Zero turnovers against the Avs is unreal. Like honestly speaking. You'd have to be a top tier team to do that. You can't fluke something like that...
