That last PP was dreadful. They saw success instantly in the 3rd when they got pucks on net... Do they have short term memory? Why would you go away from something that works? Also that one linesman seemed to have something against the nucks. That Boeser offside and the Myers icing.... Those are 2 pivitol plays that ended with faceoffs in our zone that could have cost us. Anyway proud of the boys for fighting back. I'm sure the message from Bruce will be shoot the effing puck. -

Just came home. What did I miss? I saw clips of demko making big saves? See we've also been outshot. Has it been bad? -

Aqualini? Maybe they lost confidence in Benning to hire the right coach and told him to sit tight and go down with the ship lol. All speculative. There's prob a reason why TG was the lowest or one of the lowest paid coaches in the league before his extension. I'm sure there were internal budgets at the time. -

Huge Benning fan here. I was pumped at the changes he made in the offseason. I defended him until I saw him sit idle as TG was destroying the team. I don't know what it is behind the scenes. Maybe Aqualini made him a lame duck and told him he couldn't fire and hire a new coach... Or maybe he wanted to hire a new coach previously but the budget for staff wasn't there... (after all, TG before his renewal was the lowest paid coach in the league I believe) Anyway, I'm happy with the team Benning has built and I'm happy we have JR and BB. I dunno much about the rest of the hires like Allvin and the crew. Hopefully they are good. -

I can't believe he wasted the entire camp and pre season on Petan, Dries, Chiasson, Lockwood, Dowling, Di Giuseppe, etc... Should have been working on setting the right lines and making the guys gel with a better system like the aggressive forecheck that BB is doing. Imagine BB had all training camp and preseason with our guys.... -
They won't see the ice when our injured guys return? (minus halak) Dickinson + Dowling > Chiasson Burroughs + Poolman > Hunt Halak? Martin?
-
I think Green lacked confidence which resulted in lack of bravery. As a grinder, he never possessed imagination either. Green hardly talked about how he approached things as a player but I hear BB talk about it all the time. Like when he was asked about culture and in his day they called it something along the lines of living the right way as a hockey player. He talked about how it was more fun to pressure the other team than to defend. I love the insights he gives in post game interviews. They wanted to be aggressive as a 3 man unit on the forecheck but 3rd man had to make sure one pass didn't beat all 3 guys etc. TG hid under a confident facade but he was lost. Never said anything insightful. Just a bunch of cliches. We did get to game 7 under TG with Demmer standing on his head and who knows, maybe that was the right strategy? I don't know if we had the horses to compete but we never found out because we went into a shell all series.
-
Yeah I think you are playing the percentages but this is sports and a lot of weird things happen. Like who knew Bengals would go to the SuperBowl? Who knew niners would beat Green Bay? Mtl last year? Cup finalist? I think I read somewhere that we might be a top 5 team under BB. At what point do you not sell but go for it? Top 3? Top 1? Canucks were favourites in 2011 and lost. Canucks were favourites against the kings and lost first round and watched the kings win the cup as the 8th seed. To me, a top 5 team has a good chance of winning. That being said, the hole was so big under TG that we might not even make the playoffs. I feel like some of you guys would rebuild forever until your top seed which may or may not happen but even then, there's always a risk of an upset.
-
I'm talking about the defensive side of things. I know for Boes offense will come when he is moving his feet without the puck. That means hard forecheck and hard backcheck. Somedays, it looks like he' not skating hard but it might be from overthinking and trying to figure out his defensive assignments while in stride istead of it being second nature
-
Lol if that was the offer, I'd take it and run

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
CanucksJay replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah that's just it. If he was going to be a Selke winner, he would consistently have games where he domiantes. If Miller re-signs, Bo is a 3c. Do we pay a 3C 7M? Around the league, he'd be an average 2C so in that role, I can see someone paying him 7m If miller leaves, is Petey ready to be 1C and Bo 2C? We would need a crazy return for Miller than as we will have a drop off in 1 and 2 C and still need to fill 3C -
Yeah I mean if the question is, are we a Stanley Cup favorite? the answer is no. Colorado, Carolina and Florida are. We however even beat Carolina once this year. Does that mean the other 27 teams in the league should be rebuilding? Why play the game even? We spanked Cgy 7-1. SHould they be selling? The way our guys are playing right now, and especially with Demko in net, I feel that our chances are pertty good regardless of who we face. Our worst losses under BB came against NYI, ANa, NJ. Had it been the other way around and our worst losses came against top teams, I would be more inclined to say no we are not good enough and we need to retool. What I got out of those 3 losses above is that I question some of the players work mentality...Enough to consider trading them. Not because they are bad players but they dont show the desire to win at all costs. the 3 losses however is amazing under BB. We've played 33 games under him so if we no show 1 in 11 games, but show up for the other ones like TOx2, and Cgy, does that mean anything? We used to no show 1 in 3 games uder TG. This team is my second favorite after the 94 Canucks. I like this team even more than the 2011 Team. We really need to throw out the record under TG and look at how BB has done. Completely different system, completely different results. BB's Canucks are 21-8-4 . I don't know where that ranks league wide when looking at past 33 games but I would assume it's near the top. This is our record even when our lineup was completely ripped during Covid and we played our 5th string goalie and missing key chunks of the team during the toughest roadtrip of the year. Had we had our normal roster, who knows what our record would be? Maybe 24-5-4? Even better than that? I am very interested to see how we do in the homestand against Caps, Lighting and Cgy. It should tell us whether we are the real deal or not. Our team is clicking and there really is no excuse this time. I think those 3 games are a service to Allvin and company because they can directly gauge where this team is in comparison to other really good teams. Sure its not Colorado or Florida but it give them more data to evaluate heading into the TDL. If they win convincingly does he buy? If they get smoked, do they sell? So far, Canucks team under BB has been great and I am hoping that our guys continue to push through
-
Yeah I thought he was good last year and in the bubble. ANd even last night I dont know why there's such a big difference between say last night and some other games. How does skating levels change so drastically with Boes?
-
Totally But at the rate we are winning, and I know that's a big IF but IF we can keep it up, it would only seem a matter of time before we catch Dallas, Nashville or Vegas? We play Dallas twice and Vegas 3x.
-
I feel like our identity has been formed under BB We are an aggressive, good skating, forechecking team. We pressure as a unit. Miller talked about the change since BB took over and basically everybody is moving as a 5 man unit and pressuring up ice. He talked about feeling the accountability to skate hard because when he looks over and sees Pearson and Boeser going in full speed, he knows he needs to get in there too or the forecheck will fall apart. He talked about how Mtl did that to them last year and its good to be on the giving end of those forechecks. I think we are a fast team. We arent fast like Carolina but team speed wise, I think we're pretty solid. I guess the concern with staying status quo is that is the record under BB is a mirage and team reverts back to TG levels... If we look at performance under BB though, we've beat a lot of good teams (TOx2, Carolina, Bruins, Caps, Flames, Preds) I feel like if we make it into the playoffs, we'll surprise a lot of people. For one, I dont think we would approach the Vegas series the same way if we played them again. We would be the one putting pressure on their defence all game. TG's plan of going into a passive box for 60 minutes got us to game 7 with Demko standing on his head but I do wonder what would have happened if we pressured Vegas instead. I look at that 3-1 loss to St Louis when we were battling covid. We outshot them 39 to 17. Husso played well and Mikey D had a rough night and we lost 3-1 but I thought we dominated. It'll be interesting during this home stretch when we play Caps, Lighting, Flames in the remaining 6 games. Team needs to prove whether they are contenders or pretenders.

Ooh right I got the first 2 but not halak bonus. That point is moot though as we are done in cap space next year

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
CanucksJay replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Okkkkk he didn't say taken over... It is true that Miller is a catalyst and leader though. So is Horvat. Teams have many leaders. That being said, I would pull the trigger on Horvat and Boeser if the deals were great. Horvat has an amazing reputation around the league but I'm not fully sold on him. He would be a sell high candidate for me because of this reputation. He wins a lot of draws but loses the key ones at the end of the games. He is not as solid defensively as everyone thinks or says he is. It's like some of the guys at work that has a great reputation but then you look at their work and it's average... It's more that the reputation perpetuates itself. However, team is finally gelling now so I would like to see how they do on this home stand first. Bo will never be a Patrice Bergeron. He is a 3C on this team. -
I think @ 6.5 there is too much upside to let him walk unless the return is really great. I'd rather hold and hope he turns into an 80 pt player or trade him if he doesn't take the next step and remains a 60-70 pt player after next season
-
The only concern I have is that while I am a fan of Boeser, he has been a perennial 60-70 pt guy (over 82 games) in the league. His 2 way game is near the bottom of the team between him and Hogz. (literally every forward is better in that respect) His skating is also 2nd worst on the team in front of Chiasson. I dunno if his hands and scoring prowess is worth 7m at 65pts / season... I have no idea what 7m gets you nowadays...

LOL where would Oilers be without McDavid We are lucky that our franchise player is playing the most important position and signed for such a good cap hit.
