As far as his numbers being "pretty average" if you look back to the last full nhl season (2018-19) those numbers would put you at #36 in the entire league. That would be ahead of Zibanejad, Huberdeau, Aho, Laine, Forsberg, Eichel, Panarin.... I think you get the gist.
Even just look at last season. He was #19 in the entire nhl in goals. Ahead of Stone, Scheifele, Mackinnon, Pastrnak, Kreider, Huberdeau... I think you get the gist.
That's pretty average to you? Those are some pretty ridiculous standards!!
