  1. Unfortunately we can't even try to sign him to a new contract until next season. At that point his value clearly goes down as you are only getting him for 1 playoff run and not 2.
  2. We all know the second he plays his 10th game the team that is holding his rights needs to pony up 1.25 million. Interestingly enough it doesn't necessarily go against next year's cap. If the team has the cap space at the time it can be added to this seasons cap. So if we trade someone (miller,Garland etc) before halak gets game #10 we can absorb halaks full cap hit this season and free up that room for next. It could also make him a more attractive option financially for other teams in trade value at the deadline if we can convince him to move. Food for thought.
  3. "Big save Dave" Rittich and his .904sv% went for a 3rd rounder at the deadline last year. Halak, his track record and his .918sv% is on another level.
  4. You can give 8 years maximum if you own the players rights and 7 years if they are a UFA.
  5. Was going off of your projected number but you weren't far off. He had 61 points in the last full season. Was on pace for 63 the year after and then 57 last year. So a 60 point average playing on the 2nd line.
  6. Pretty much bang on... 65 points in 82 games is a .79 PPG.
  7. Judging from last seasons stats on nhl.com (was only a 56 game season so I had to multiply point totals by 1.4642857143 to extrapolate to 82 games) a 65 point paced center would be 44 points in 56 games. That would put him at #21 amongst all centers...2 points behind JT MIller. So to answer your question. Yes I would be happy with a 1st line center that put up 65 points. Im sure we could make up those 15 other points elsewhere. This is of course 100% contingent on getting a massive haul for JT.
  8. Horvat has averaged 20 minutes per game over the past 4 seasons.miller has averaged 20:40 Over his 3 seasons here. Let's not pretend that Horvat (who is 2 years younger) is going to fall off a cliff before Miller.
  9. Barzal has a qualifying offer of 8.4 million after next season. The islanders are going to be in tough having to offer a player who has put up .81 ppg over the past 4 seasons to that number.
  10. Garland for Alexander Holtz or Mercer. Nothing else they have is enticing to me (obviously the Hughes brothers, Hischier and Bratt are off the table).
  11. That and his trade value doesn't value his worth to the team. He is cost controlled for another year at 850k, brings much needed physicality, toughness, leadership and PK ability. Most projections put his value at a 4th or 5th round pick. I'd rather keep him for another season at that price. Im sure he could fetch that next year at the deadline. On a side note it's crazy to see the impact that playing with Hughes has had on his offensive numbers this season. His 9 points and plus 8 in 29 games would extrapolate to 25 points and a plus 23 over 82 games. His best season of his career was 11 years ago when he had 22 points and a minus 7 in 82 games.
  12. Dont get me wrong he is a very good prospect and would adress our biggest need as far as prospects go. I like him as a player but nothing is guaranteed with young dmen. Look at Gudbranson, Bogosian, and even Schenn. All these dmen looked like the real deal when they first came into the league and all are bottom pairing dmen now. Garland is a bird in the hand, signed long term through the prime of his career. That's why I would want a sweetener. Moot point though, knowing new York they would want the bigger fish in Miller.
  13. That 1st would likely be in the 26+ range. Garland has 4.5 seasons left on his contract and is only 25. Schneider could become a solid top 4 dman but he could just as easily be a bottom pairing dman.
