The myth of forwards peaking around 30 needs to &^@# off. Statistically speaking, forwards peak in their early to mid 20s. -

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Thatcher Demko
Tom Sestito replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
There’s no science with goalies - it’s so hard to predict. They didn’t really have a good bridge option with Thatcher’s free agency coming up in two years so this makes sense. At this price, I think the long term gamble on Thatcher is a good one as it’s pretty in line with what goalies of his experience get. They need some consistency with Clark though. Bobrovsky and Markstrom fell off without him. If they retain Clark, the value of this Demko contract increases substantially because there’s a big risky variable being mitigated. My personal guess a few weeks back was 5MMx6Y... so this is in line with that. -

There's no precedent for a goalie with less than 100 games played getting much more than that. Binnington has a career save percentage similar to Demko's and if you added his 4.4x2 and the first three years of his 6x6, you get 26.8 over 5 years. Demko gets a slight discount for not being bridged and for the security. It's pretty much exactly where I think everyone expected the contract to be so there shouldn't be much of the whole "take that JB HATEORZ" when there's no precedent for goalies getting much more or much less. -

Are you hurt pal I’d be pretty embarrassed if I thought Gudbranson and Tanev were equivalent -
Everyone said what exactly about Barrie? I know the common sentiment on HF was that he was a PP specialist who needs to be hidden at ES. I still see the same exact thing. You can only have one of those guys on your team. Thankfully that Barrie trade never happened with the reported figures Dreger put out (8x8) for us to re-sign him. They have their bottom pairing PP specialist in Yandle already.

Lynn Valley Library Stabbings, Multiple Victims
Tom Sestito replied to -DLC-'s topic in Off-Topic General
A short film that featured a young man named Yannick Bandaogo training at the Techno-Boxe boxing club in Longueuil, Quebec, was removed from YouTube late Sunday. Techno-Boxe owner Alain Boismenu, who said Bandaogo trained there for about a decade, was shocked when he found out his former student had been charged in the attack. “I just about fell off my chair,” Boismenu said. “It’s not the same Yannick I knew at the gym, where we were a big family. We won together, we lost together.” Boismenu said the young man was committed to boxing, sometimes coming twice a day to train. But he said he hadn’t seen Bandaogo for about three years and had been told through a mutual friend that he hadn’t been doing well. https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/heres-what-we-know-about-the-man-charged-in-the-fatal-north-vancouver-stabbing-attack -

Sutter and Beagle are not good players. The idea that they do well in their minutes is just wrong and it has been for years. They're black holes on offense and they don't make that up with special defense in any way. Every canuck above 29% is a top six forward. Every Canuck in the limited and soft minutes is Roussel, Beagle, Sutter, Gaudette, Virtanen, etc. Motte is the guy in the sizeable but sheltered minutes category. There's no analytic or eye test measure that indicates that Beagle and Sutter are great players other than people making up bull$&!# about intangibles to justify their incorrect opinions. -

if jim wants to prove me wrong that he does have the ability to look forward and make impactful moves, we only have five forwards and one defenseman worth protecting. horvat, miller, ep, boeser, motte schmidt we should be doing everything we can to acquire players on the cheap that other teams may lose for nothing in the ED. We desperately need a 3rd line center and 2nd line forward, and two top four ES matchup D. We have the protection slots available to acquire players. Will we sit as lame ducks again and not fill those four slots with players of consequence? Yup. -

so why did they fire linden who wanted to rebuild for another four years (according to imac) and then go out and sign a bunch of ufas in 2018 and then make a bunch of win now short sighted moves in 2019 (miller toffoli myers ferland) if those were rebuilding years? -

the way people brag about these calder candidates building culture and being real fans who support the team remind me of oilers fans who supported the kevin lowe yakupov days lmao -
Yup that's why I finished it off with Montreal's drafting has been poor - i probably should have clarified that the point I was making was generic and not applied to montreal One of the biggest problems for that organization has been their Quebec bias in their decision making. GOTTA GET ALL THE FRANCOPHONES!

One thing you have to be aware of when using the X player has played X NHL games is adjusting for the strength of the team. As an example, Gaudette and Virtanen probably have extremely careers had they been drafted to a powerhouse team and probably don’t amass similar games played totals. This has been one of the worst teams in the league since 2015 - so bad players have played more than they would on a good team. But yes, Montreals drafting has been poor.
