  1. Their defense is OK. If they added a top four D, they’d have one of the better D’s in the NHL. Maurice is not a good coach though so they’ll not win anything regardless of whatever addition they make on the blueline.
  2. they aren’t trying to the team just sucks theyre using myers w hughes which is one of the worst pairings for suppressing chances and goals but is their attempt at getting goals back into the game - then they went down 3-0
  3. Hey look, two smart pickups in one week by this management group. I could have sworn reading this forum the past five years that minimum contract guys like Dowd, Boyd, Vesey are far inferior to guys like Beagle, Roussel.
  4. You can't expect much more than what Miller has given them in the time Petey is out but the comparison is ridiculous. Petey is 10x the centerman Miller is on both ends at ES. Miller's flaws make him a winger. It is what it is. He's still a great player when motivated but you can't pigeonhole him into center because he is not meant to play it outside of spot duty.
  5. Anyone who thinks Miller is a better center than EP is insane Miller can drive some individual offense but his line without EP has sucked at ES and Miller is not a reliable enough defensive player in the middle of the ice. Like Gaudette got scored on for a similar mistake to the one Miller made earlier that period but Miller controller deleted. Miller also went off for a bad change on one of the penalties we took in yesterday's game.
  6. By points percentage, there's virtually no difference between Edmonton and Montreal. If both teams kept playing at their current season pace, Montreal would finish with 67 points and Edmonton would finish with 68. Edit: Those standings you posted aren't updated. Montreal is up to 31 GP with 37 points.
  7. Unlike you, I have no issue admitting when I was wrong. Up until that point, the Canucks had got every age gap acquisition wrong. Motte since the bubble has been an ELITE fourth liner and has immense value on his cheap cap!
  8. No, I wasn’t actually going to blame him for that one goal. I was going to say the guy sucks and bleeds goals. Statistically speaking and by eye test, one of the worst mainstay defensemen in the NHL over the past five years. He is actual $&!# and has been overrun by the Canucks. Not sure why you are getting mad at me for pointing out that an opposing player is bad. GUDBRANSON SUCKS!
  9. @oldnews this shouldn’t be news but reminder that Gudbranson is dog$&!#
  10. The last canuck forward to look this slow but be given free reign to play games was Brandon Prust Just slow, terrible. Roussel's injury killed his career He's not one of the best 12 forwards by accountability. He's playing because they pay him a lot.
  11. Woo and Gadjovich have a way better shot than Lind at being long time NHL’ers. Lind is another Baertschi/Boucher Gadjovich can’t skate but he does other bottom six stuff well enough that he might carve out a grinder role. Woo is actually pretty good
  12. Yes. I agree with your definition. I was wrong - stepan played fairly difficult minutes last season. He was $&!# in them tho Relatively useless player either way
  13. Stepan was awful in sheltered minutes last season, was he not?
  14. Ottawa’s players available are way worse than ours. Like, it’s not even close. You should read their boards opinions on a majority of the guys you mentioned. Like comparing Sutter and Stepan as an example - Stepan can’t do anything effectively in sheltered minutes. Stepan trade might have been the worst of every one made in the summer. Even if Sutter might be the worst playmaking center in the whole league and drags down his linemates production, he can at least eat minutes and play reliably in his own end if you give him limited ES minutes.
  15. I said the same as the above on HFB. However, this is a guy who has looked awful offensively basically the calendar year of 2020 and this season as well. I always thought he was more of a 3rd liner on a good team but it's really proven apparent. He scores goals in three ways. 1. He stands in front of the net and gets a tip or a rebound. 2. Rush goals with a powerful shot top shelf. 3. EN goals. That's basically it. There's no creativity to his game. He is what he is - a passenger. But, I think he's a good passenger. I think Green has described him as low maintenance and you never see him dog his effort defensively or get caught watching. You need a guy like that. You need a guy like that when you're competing for a cup - not to actually keep and risk a contract on based on his last 12-15 months of play which have been.. a bit worrying offensively. He's the one no-brainer guy to trade at the TDL this season. I don't think there's even a debate to it. Re-sign him in the summer if he wants to come back.
  16. I think it is a choice to a certain extent. I think any playoff team in the league would want Edler but he's obviously a picky guy (deservedly so, he's earned it and I want him back here in free agency). I think any team - provided they have the capspace - would take Hamonic and Benn as 6-8th defenders for a playoff run and those guys always get a pick (3rd to 5th). They're relatively hamstrung by the NTC's that all these guys have as well. Like, we all know Hamonic would only waive for three places and they'd probably have to hardball him by telling him they're bringing up Woo and will bench him the rest of the season. (Unrelated but I think they should call up Woo/Rathbone and run them as a pairing at the NHL level this season because I think they're both good and play well together). Pearson is the only guy with no protection - he has to be sent packing. Sutter would fetch a similar return to Hamonic and Benn if he was retained but again, NTC so who knows where he wants to go if anywhere. I think if they can get assets for three players at this TDL, it would be a success. Pearson is the automatic, one of the expiring D, and then find a way to grab a third asset (Edler or Sutter or other) The team has talented youth but the expectations need to be fair. Everyone would agree Hoglander has been fantastic this year, but he's not a top six forward yet. I think a fair expectation for Podkolzin would be similar to what you've gotten from Hoglander this season. Do you expect Podkolzin to come in and be more productive on both ends of the rink than lets say Pearson? I don't - I expect something similar. Do you think Hughes is going to be able to handle matchups against an opponents top six next season? I don't. There's been talk of insulating these youth with veteran leadership and intangibles for years. What's most important is they need to be insulated by players that help them achieve improved results on the ice. If you make a Motte for a 1st and 3rd trade and flip the late 1st + Eriksson for a top four defensive D to pair with QH, I just think that these are unquestionably good moves. I'm not saying that it's a failure if they don't move all five pending UFA's and other guys like Motte, Virtanen or whatever. However, I think it's reasonable to expect them to be able to get a few assets.
  17. I don't really have a preference to retaining assets versus using them to dump bad deals. I'd bet you EP/Horvat/Boeser/Hughes do care if they tread water again this summer instead of improve but that's a different debate. Where I'd assume you and I will have a difference in thinking is the necessity of needing to add assets now. Unless they want to go into a pick deficit, they need to acquire assets this TDL and either use that draft capital to add prospects they think can help us in 3-5 years or the assets required can be used to improve the team next year by attaching them to bad deals. Like, I think not moving out guys who wont be here to help this team win in 22-23 is a massive failure for this organization. Beagle provides use as a 4th liner. I don't really care much about the 4th line anyways. But, to get out of Eriksson, Roussel, and Holtby would be really huge for the team in the summer. Right now, even if they bridge all of EP/Demko/Hughes, they're only going to have enough money to afford to retain Edler and sign a 3rd line center with Pearson's expiring If you can move some group of Motte, Pearson, Edler, Sutter, Benn, Hamonic and bring in assets that could go towards paying to dump Holtby, Eriksson and Roussel, they have a chance to make significant improvements to the team. Those improvements could be long term by adding the flexibility to go long term on multiple of our RFA's, or by going short term and using Holtby/Eriksson/Roussel towards multiple critical pieces that we need both now and over the next few years.
  18. It's clear that management/ownership has somewhat given up on dealing with these contracts that they have. Seems like they're just going to wait until 2022-2023. They're in a major crunch again this offseason and will need to fight to try and keep the talent level of this bubble team - forget improving it. If you don't think you're going to elevate into a top ten team next season, it should be explored. Motte is going to be a UFA after it and will be in line for a big pay grade. I've doubted Motte's upside as nothing more than an energy guy but the bubble and his form this season has been.... surprising. The guy scores at a fairly insane clip for a PK guy. I can understand why any contending team would want this guy. If you can do a barclay goodrow type deal where you get a 1st for Motte and a 3rd, you do that deal in a heartbeat. You're either going to get a high pick which will be more beneficial to supplementing the core in the years where they're competitive, or you can use that asset to flip a bad deal like Eriksson in the summer and then use the capspace to improve your team next season. Trading Motte (if you get a stupid high return) is a win/win unless you think you can move out enough bad cap without the asset he could potentially generate by moving out a different piece. Trading Schmidt OTOH, I don't agree with. The guy has been good this season and they have him for four years. You need some consistency on the team. I bet you they could flip him for a fairly substantial upgrade on what they paid but I think he's a long term contributor to winning and you'd be hard pressed to improve on that guy even with the assets you got in. You need a player like Schmidt on your defense.
  19. Our cap situation is relatively similar to last season's. Assuming Eriksson in the minors, Ferland LTIR, and Luongo $3MM penalty remains, they'll have like $29ishMM to fill out 11 spots. Promote Woo, Rathbone, Podkolzin. Sign five players to $1M deals to replace Edler, Benn, Pearson, Sutter, Hamonic -> they'd have roughly $21.5MM to sign Hughes, Demko, EP. They can basically only afford to sign one of those guys long term with the cap they have. The two others will be bridge deals. Or, they bridge all three and then they can afford an elite third line center or top four defenseman - both huge needs. But, it's basically going to be the same thing of last season where we shuffle $&!# and redistribute and hope players internally improve and that players don't get worse. The biggest pressing need is for the team to figure out how to dump Holtby, Roussel, and Eriksson. Those are the biggest non-contributors affecting the cap next season.
  20. I never said that it was a nonprofit. Nice strawman. This is the only organization to drop in franchise value since Benning took over actually. We only won one real round of the playoffs. The only reason we did that was because Binnington played at a level worse than what Holtby has provided this season. Demko put in in an all time performance in three games against Vegas. It’s a short sample size where goaltending and luck changes $&!#. Do you understand that hockey is the most variable sport in north america? If your defense of this management is that I have lofty expectations for holding management to the standards they set for them, then that’s pretty funny. He said 4-5 years and then ran the team like $&!# so now he’s asking for at least 9. Lofty expectations- what about the ones he publicly stated for himself?
  21. Pretty sure this management/ownerships goal is to make the playoffs for revenue purposes rather than do what’s best to win a cup. They treated making the playoffs last season like a cup level achievement
