Was the Sundin team better than the 2011 team on paper ?
Tom Sestito replied to MaxVerstappen33's topic in Canucks Talk
What people think of Mason Raymond is one of the biggest indicators to me of if I should value their hockey opinion or not. On top of the other obvious ones like what they think of Jim Benning and Erik Gudbranson. -
He tried to trade the Brock Boeser pick for Lucic. Boston took a better offer. He tried to trade the Juolevi for PK Subban. Botchford reported that he wanted Bleackley and Hawyrluk at the draft in 2014 with picks 24/35 and deferred to the scouting staff somewhat once they were gone. He turned down an offer that allegedly included the 9th overall for Ryan Miller and Kevin Bieksa. He wanted Glass and not EP. QH ok. He overruled Brackett to get Hoglander so he gets credit there. Podkolzin ok. Horvat was drafted a year before Benning showed up. Rathbone was a brackett pick, and is currently in the minors. He traded a top ten pick for Garland - that isn’t a getting younger move LMFAO

It absolutely was. The Sedins were pretty good first line players up until the 2016-2017. They looked overmatched after then, but they could have theoretically played a lower level secondary scoring role like Spezza after that. Such a shame. Not getting out of the first round after 2011 really sucks. They deserved better. 2012 is somewhat excusable because of the Keith hit but the rest of the team didn’t make enough substantial improvements regardless.

The dumbasses heading this organization over the past eight years never rebuilt. We ran major pick deficits and are asset bare. We need to fix things but have nothing tangible to use in trades to fix without it being just creating major holes in an area of need to fill another. Asset rich teams don’t have that issue. This is going to take years to fix. The culture is rotten, and so is the roster construction. Hopefully they hire a true savant with a large hockey operations staff. That’s the only way they’ll fix this mess.

They made some interesting system adjustments that have limited some of the transition opportunities we concede and probably contribute to our defensive metrics being OK at 5 on 5. But, the lack of pressure and simplicity in our offense as a result of these changes has neutered the team. They were best off playing that stupid rope-a-dope hockey they were playing in 19-20 where they'd just keep games close 5 on 5 and rely on the superstars to win them games. Or at least, have a system in place that enables them the ability to do so.

Honest Conversation With Those Who Still Support Management
Tom Sestito replied to JohnTavares's topic in Canucks Talk
It's a good mix. The coach sucks and everyone plays like $&!# under him and no one really gets better. The management has no idea how to construct a roster. The amount of people who were convinced that OEL + Poolman were some huge upgrade on Edler-Schmidt was mindboggling. Still is. Myers is the only RHS who can handle the puck at a legitimate NHL level but we have offense first LHS guys who Myers can't play with. They don't understanding diminishing returns when you have similar skillsets. They don't understand locker room dynamics. They don't understand Then you get into the whole bottom six mess that still lives on and has for seven years. The penalty killing is LOL. I don't think that's entirely personnel regardless of what Hansen - who's generally right about everything - says. Analytics show that basically anyone should be able to penalty kill at a fairly OK rate in the sense that replacements from outside of the roster - on average - perform at close to similar rates. But it is extremely obvious that it is also a roster construction issue in regards to the PKers available. TLDR is everyone is stupid. -
The organizational processes with Linden were bad as well. They never tried to rebuild. They just sucked at building good teams so they accidentally tanked. The only semblance of a rebuild that has ever occurred was in 2017 where they traded Hansen and Burrows and I think Linden finally was willing to use the word. Linden finally realized somewhere in 2017-2018 that everything they had done was stupid but that's when the divide happened. You can either double down on the stupidity or admit fault and that there needs to be correction made. Linden chose the latter, ownership/benning/weisbrod chose the former.

Please tell me you see the hypocrisy here considering that is exactly what I was poking fun at you all for doing. 1. People protest 2. You all moan “Omg negative fans this is so wrong stop moaning” 3. I come in and point out there is no way to appease the moaners. 4. Now you’re saying I’m doing what you all had been doing for pages? Hilarious
