  1. OEL is the Kevin Love of the NHL. Washed up guy making superstar money on an awful contract with term remaining. Also not the first time in his career. The Coyotes have made it further in the playoffs than we have since we made it to the finals. Both teams have been mediocre for a decade now basically. Maybe the effort level picks up. I would hope it does.
  2. Chayka is seen as a moron by the analytics community. This is a weird straw man that you’re using to deflect because you can’t accept the fact that OEL isn’t a top pairing D anymore. This isn’t even some sort of advanced analytic. If you play against a team’s 4th line, you will have a low QOC. This isn’t rocket science.
  3. You have this totally wrong. Garland is a very good top six forward on any competitive team. OEL got killed playing against other team’s bottom sixes. He’s a #5D
  4. He literally played the 5th most difficult competition among Coyotes defenders. If four players play more difficult minutes, that would make you a bottom pairing defenseman. He was third in TOI/G at ES among coyotes D. Racking up minutes against other team’s bottom sixes.
  5. How are some of you calling OEL a top pairing or top four defender when he wasn’t used that way in Arizona last year and got killed in a smaller role?
  6. I can tell you’re in one of those moods where you can’t make a competent argument so you’re just making tiny posts like this for upvotes. Happens pretty often. If one day you can explain why adding a 30 year old D who plays bottom pairing level QOC and bleeds goals against while being soft and slow and has 6 years left at #1D money is a win to us, feel free to tag me pal. Would love to read it.
  7. You don’t have to trade players to free up roster spots. They could have sent them down and the roster spots are there. The only reason it would “block” players is because the organization doesn’t like the optics of big money in the minors.
  8. Loui was coming off a good year where he played against the opponent’s top players every night and scored 30 goals too. OEL is coming off a season where he played against opponent’s bottom sixes every night and looked soft/slow.
  9. The interesting thing is I called OEL the second worst contract in the NHL a few weeks ago on this board and was happy that we missed out on that mistake. Then we ended up acquiring it. @IBatch@aGENT I KNOW you guys weren’t fans of OEL a few weeks ago.
  10. Really is no excuse for how poor this is when you see what the Giants cooked up. The last two good canucks jerseys were the 2010-2011 stick in a rink 40th anniversaries which I own and the millionaires throwback which I also own. Will be buying a Giants jersey for the first time ever
  11. There's no question right now that with a lot of graduating prospects to the NHL (Rathbone/Hoglander are NHL players, Podkolzin will be soon) that we are low on futures. I think Woo and DiPietro will see NHL time next year. I think there's a good chance that they use DiPietro as a backup next season and that Woo developed well enough last season that he deserves to be one of the first callups on the backend. I don't think Gadjovich can skate anywhere close to an NHL level. The naming names thing is cool but you have to be careful because you end up doing this -> It's also relative. If we were to do the naming names thing, you could do that for any team. If you summed the cumulative value of the sabres top ten assets vs the canucks top ten assets, it'd probably be similar. So again, context is key and you have to understand the value relative to what other teams have.
  12. We actually were a few years ago. Benning offered a package he believed to be better than the one the Kings offered in 2015 for Lucic. He also was going to trade the #5 pick if Dubois fell for Subban. We aren't an asset rich team to be going for elite players.
  13. Gaffar is basically just a mouthpiece for the organization and only reports things that are absolutely true. Whether he actually ends up dealt or stays doesn’t disregard the validity to it. Larsson would be a good get - that’s a good suggestion. Trading Schmidt instead of Myers is a huge mistake unless you only care about goals, height, and handedness. Schmidt is a better hockey player and is one season removed from being one of the best defensemen on a WCF team.
  14. Neal for Keith is actually a really good trade. Edmonton doesn't need any more forwards for that first PP unit but probably need to replace Barrie's pp role. Neal and Keith are both some of the worst ES players in the league. Believable
  15. i don't think it's just that JD left - and I don't think JD has a lot of inherit bias either. like I know that this past week while there was an insane portion of the fanbase going off about missing on Caufield, JD was defending the process/decision making behind taking Podkolzin. I think what's happened is that every year, analytics are becoming easier to interpret and relate to what we see on the ice. It's not just basic corsi stats. I'd say maybe since ~2018, CA stuff has been a lot better but I usually only read Dayal stuff for analytics stuff still.
  16. yes. that's where i totally agree with you. there's way better options than jones for the reasons you outlined
  17. To be fair, I do think a good amount of the Jones defensive worries are overblown. At the height of that Werenski Jones pairing, you saw that you don't need to throw a defense first guy next to him for that pairing to be successful. Still don't think it's a good fit for us though
  18. Keith is really bad at this stage of his career and doesn't fit in the lineup He is probably extremely attractive as a cost savings option though. He makes 2.5 and 1.5 salary the next two years while taking up 5.5MM on the cap.
