  1. Because Benning said they're going to be aggressive this summer? Because Miller/Bo only have one year until they hit UFA? Because you risk an Eichel type situation with star unhappiness with EP if you're bad again this year?
  2. Not that I disagree with you, but how do you propose we get those players and the subsequent capspace needed without overpaying the available assets we have to dump salary? We need a 1st pairing defender, 2nd line winger, 3rd line center, and second pairing defender at the minimum (~20MM) We need to move on from 75% of Myers, Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel, Holtby, Jake to get there. This is why I don't understand how we can be aggressive this summer?
  3. it's a hand shake deal that we're going to protect him and benning isn't the kind of guy to then expose him regardless of the likelihood of seattle taking him being minimal
  4. Which mental gymnastics? I said the leafs failed to meet the expectations they set and pointed out numerous flaws that no one here would disagree with. They failed in execution. So uh, what's the mental gymnastics here?
  5. &^@# everyone else and do what's best for your own mental health. She's awesome.
  6. A plan can be good in theory but poor in execution. Matthews contract is poor in term because he can bolt early in his eligibility & Marner is overpaid. They made a lot of poor pro scouting decisions on the back end and in the bottom six (Zaitsev and Barrie among the most notable ones defensively). They rode out babcock for too long and the players hated him. Keefe OTOH was a rookie coach coming into a win-now situation which was a poor hire to make. I don't have an issue with a rookie coach growing with a group of players, but you can't bring one into a win-now situation. So yes, lots of poor decisions. One thing to be careful with is that the Leafs failed because they've set a higher bar. Make no mistake, they've absolutely failed. The first two years, they weren't expected to win. The 3rd year was a 50/50 series and the last two should have been sweeps considering the roster differences. Underperforming stars - it happens. But, it's also a mistake to just simply look at a failing organization and be like "yeah we're better than them." For me, I want to be at the level of a team like Colorado, Tampa, Carolina etc.. Not the LOL Leafs. That doesn't take away that I think their plan in theory was better than the retool on the fly plan from this management group.
  7. https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/2020-2021-around-the-league-thread-playoff-edition-iii.2825507/page-40 everyone in there is loling @ the leafs as well but good try
  8. All ik is Horvat and EP stepped up to the plate in the playoffs and didn’t mental midget like Matthews and Marner
  9. that's not a great comment w the insinuations on the botchford thing 1. that's not botchford's writing style and isn't close to it 2. the last time that account was accessed was in 2020
  10. There’s really no point of just trying to take a shot in the dark squeaking into the playoffs when you’re this far behind teams like Colorado, Tampa, etc. They are so good.
  11. I much prefer Parayko and Cernak as targets on the ice even forgetting the off ice stuff.
  12. Have at er. Wow the embed on this website is weird. I was linked the profile and it automatically embedded her recent tweets.
  13. Uh, have you looked at Seth’s mom’s twitter? I’m not saying one way or the other anything about my own feelings on the content they interact with but to act as if it doesn’t exist is strange. It’s full of Laura Ingraham, Marjorie Taylor Green, and other similar figures going on about Covid hoaxes and the stolen election. Again - I’m not stating my own opinion - just that it’s very clear that there is a lot of political content
  14. Juolevi has shown no inclination that he can be that guy. Zadorov isn’t very good. I very much agree with you on Rathbone’s potential. I don’t think he’s going to be as good as Fox but I think he is clearly a very good player. But, Fox didn’t get the insane matchups he is getting this season in his rookie season. He was given time and wasn’t thrown to the wolves. Fox is a legitimate norris #1D type player so Rathbone being good and similar in his production to Fox in their equivalent years are good indicators. We need to give Hughes, Schmidt, Rathbone the right partners for them to excel. I can see Rathbone and Hamonic doing well in a bottom pairing. They need two very good defensive D for Hughes and Schmidt to play with. @oldnews and I don’t agree on a lot of stuff but I bet you he agrees with me on this.
  15. You need two pairs capable of matching up. Most of the top teams have elite top nines - not just one good line. I don’t think Savard has been good in Tampa but he’s definitely shown in the past to be a better player than Hamonic. But your top matchup pairing has a rookie who’s played like five games and was sheltered in those games. Defenses need to - firstly have good players who perform well in the minutes they play - but also be balanced. That defense wouldn’t have either. They need two stay at home guys and two very good ones.
  16. Which two of those pairings do you trust in games to play against other teams best players? The team needs more defense first defensemen. Right now, we have one (Hamonic) and he should be playing on a bottom pair and not as a matchup guy.
  17. I know that - I don’t value Jones as a #1 but I’m also not as down on him as the analytics community is.
  18. Sure, but you also have to be in a position to afford that guy and we aren’t. We need a 2nd line winger, 3rd line center, and two top four D to be a truly elite team. Trading Hoglander, Schmidt, etc just adds to that. We also don’t have much in the pipeline of likely impact players past the ones projected to be added to the roster in 21-22 (Rathbone, Podkolzin, potentially Dipietro). So we aren’t dealing from a position of strength here. It’s just plugging one hole and opening others. (Unless the price is Myers, Juolevi/Lind, a 2nd) or something. Jones had a terrible year as well.
  19. Regardless, 100% not on Campbell. Leafs getting legitimately great goaltending and they’re choking it away. My fault in believing the leafs were incapable of choking this first round.
  20. Bogosian sucks but the Lightning won with the guy in the same $&!#ty role. Too much attention is paid to these fringe guys. Toronto’s two best forwards haven’t shown up. Even without Tavares, they should have ended this series by now. They made their own mess these last two games.
  21. This would be the worst of all of the Leafs playoff first round losses this past decade IMO. They are literally getting better goaltending than the Habs and they can’t put a body in front of the net, get a good start to the game, or get a goal from one of their top players.
