@Phil_314 He probably had the wrong opinion on masks, that's not allowed.

Hoglander - Horvat - Virtanen
thoughts on this for our 2nd line?
-
I don’t like this deal. I think Schmidt is going to be another contract that will be a burden in a few years. But I’ll wait and see how it turns out. Just want to get that out there so I can say I told you so in a few years or never mention it again if he turns out to be great lol
-
LA Kings won the Toffoli trade! Damn it!
-
If we signed Tofu, this Nate Schmidt deal would have never happened.
Benning will be the first to blame himself for signing those wretched bottom-6 contracts.
It's unfortunate, but our focus needed to be on defense this offseason.
IMO, Jake gets his chance in the top 6, full time.
It's time to see what he's made of.

Do Hoglander / Podkolzin make the team next season?
-
Hamonic still out there and WPG is out of cap. Is this a guy we want?
-
barring moving money, jim has 8 mil to sign, jake, gaud and a rd. he is waiting for the right deal, money wise. he says he is still wanting to move money.
-
@NewbieCanuckFan I 100% disagree. Give a rebuilding team something of value and they'll take on a bad contract, because they can. Also, it's not like Eriksson couldn't play for Ottawa, he's overpaid but he still contributes in different ways, might be good for their young guys out there.

@NewbieCanuckFan He's young center with top 6 potential. He had himself a very good season as a full timer in the NHL last year. Ottawa, for example, acquires him for free and meets the cap floor.
Tweak it however you want, I see a win-win scenario here.

@smithers joe Ottawa and Buffalo still need to meet the floor.

@CanucksCountry possibly a trade. Not sure, we'll see how things play out.

Irf: It's clear Coyotes want one of Demko, Hoglander or Podkolzin..... How about no? Benning + co. Should not be entertaining this in the slightest way!
-
@NUCKER67 We're done on OEL apparently

So the Canucks are planning to reach out to Pietrangelo tomorrow...
Trading for OEL will result in us taking on a 8.25mil/7 year contract.
If we take a run at Pietrangelo, he signs for around 9.5mil/7 year contract.
Not far off.
I'm just saying, we have the cap space and he is a much better defenseman than OEL. He is the type of guy you want around Hughes, Juolevi, Rafferty, etc.
I personally would be willing to take the risk. If he leaves St. Louis, they're no longer a cup contender. He's that good.
Hughes - Pietrangelo
Edler - Rafferty
Juolevi - Myers
I mean come on that's hard to turn down. Do we want Myers teaching Juolevi and Jurmo how to play in the NHL? Nothing against him but Edler is likely gone after next season and Myers is not a legit 1-2 dman. We need someone consistent.
I say go for it.

Totally fine with that if he can keep playing and I really like the idea of signing Khudobin to back up Demko.
We could probably make it work with Tanev but I would say we need to give some younger guys like Rafferty a chance so it might be best to leave a spot open. I would love to bring Tofu back at the right price.
We could trade Eriksson + Juolevi to Detroit and Baertschi + Benn + Lockwood to NYR for Future Considerations. Something like that. Just to dump some more cap and then sign Tofu to a 6mil deal.
-
-
Jim please do not mess up tomorrow. Please don't trade demko, please do no over pay for OEL, please do not overpay for marky.

Chris Johnston on Markstrom: I do believe as of right now, as of everything I have heard this is going to be a guy that tests free agency on Friday. (960)
-
JB to speak to the media Monday.
-
Watching Bettman present the Cup, I got shades of Trump from him when he said "it's the greatest and hardest trophy to win"... don't other leagues also have long playoff runs? Such self-promotion
-
Give Jake 3yrs 2-2.5m a year. You won’t regret it.
-
We can pay him $1.5-2mil x 2-3 years and he would still be an RFA.
What a great deal.
This is why you don't trade him when he's potentially on the verge of breaking out. Let's say that happens next season, boy oh boy isn't that a great contract to work with when we need to sign Pettersson and Hughes.
-
-
Looks like Pietrangelo is going to become a free agent after talks with Blues have gone south. Is there a chance we could sign him? We’d have one of the deepest blue lines in the league if JB manages to pull it off
-
It's completely possible, he may want to play here after playing us.
We can actually sign everyone, including Pietrangelo, but say goodbye to Stecher, Gaudette, and possibly Virtanen (only if absolutely necessary IMO), as these would be the pieces that would dump any combination of Eriksson, Sutter, Roussel, Beagle, Benn, Baertschi, etc.
I know some people don't think it's possible to cap dump these players, but some teams need to reach the cap floor, and they will take on a contract for a disposable draft pick, as long as a decent piece is coming back their way.

OMG..what whiner you are.?....If you're going to call out CDC on HFCanucks.Go there, and frickin stay there.
The worst type of fan...
I am going to post what you posted on hf canucks here...
"Like probably quite a few others on here, I'm a member of CDC as well, though until today hadn't gone to CDC in quite some time. Today I went to see what the buzz was on which of the Black Aces stuck with the Canucks, though without using my identity to log in.
Looking at the threads, the first one that caught my eye wasn't about the Black Aces but about Jim Benning. The original poster was trying to figure out just how good he was and his conclusion was that the best comparison was Bill Torrey, original general manager of the New York Islanders, who had that franchise in the Stanley Cup finals in their 3rd, 4th and 5th seasons in existence, in the playoffs for 14 consecutive seasons and won four Cups with the Islanders.
The next example given, by another poster, was Jim Devellano, who was hired as GM of the Red Wings by their new owner in 1982. The Wings had just missed the playoffs four years in a row. Under Devellano the Wings made the division semi-finals in his 2nd and 3rd seasons, won four Cups and made the playoffs sixteen consecutive seasons.
A third example of greatness similar to our Canuck GM was given by another poster, who didn't name the comparable general manager but was of the opinion that Benning's record was comparable with the drafting done by the Oilers in their first three NHL drafts. In their first draft the Oilers drafted Kevin Lowe as the last pick in the 1st round, had no second round pick, took Mark Messier in the 3rd round and Glenn Anderson in the 4th. They followed that with Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Walt Poddubny and Andy Moog in 1980 and Grant Fuhr and Steve Smith in 1981. The Oilers made the playoffs in each of their first 13 seasons in the NHL, including five Cup wins.
There you have it, folks. Our very own Jim Benning is comparable to Bill Torrey, Jim Devellano and his drafting comparable to that done by the Oilers in 1979-81, while some of us just don't properly appreciate it.
It must be really nice to be able to live in a world of alternate reality and be able to believe in it."Two faced Twit.

At least 1 round of playoffs please! We don't ask for much.
