Looks like they're having a blast.
-
It really does....because if we can take away some positives and learn new things. that's the half full glass.
Kids are super resilient and also will feed off adults. If adults are moping around about "having to" do things, kids will pick up on that. So you present it as an opportunity to try new things. It's actually easy to get kids on board in the narrative is done correctly...wish adults were so adaptable.

Benning's To-Do's:
- Trade Eriksson.
- Sign Pietrangelo .
- Sign Toffoli.
-
TSN is so stoked on Wayne Simmonds signing with the Leafs and then craps all over us for being unable to close an OEL deal and having major cap issues, apparently.
HOW ABOUT YOUR CAP ISSUES TORONTO??? -
So the Canucks are planning to reach out to Pietrangelo tomorrow...
Trading for OEL will result in us taking on a 8.25mil/7 year contract.
If we take a run at Pietrangelo, he signs for around 9.5mil/7 year contract.
Not far off.
I'm just saying, we have the cap space and he is a much better defenseman than OEL. He is the type of guy you want around Hughes, Juolevi, Rafferty, etc.
I personally would be willing to take the risk. If he leaves St. Louis, they're no longer a cup contender. He's that good.
Hughes - Pietrangelo
Edler - Rafferty
Juolevi - Myers
I mean come on that's hard to turn down. Do we want Myers teaching Juolevi and Jurmo how to play in the NHL? Nothing against him but Edler is likely gone after next season and Myers is not a legit 1-2 dman. We need someone consistent.
I say go for it.
-
Markstrom is likely gone tomorrow. I know this doesn't feel great now, but he is 30 years old and will inevitably decline. He probably wants a 7-8 year deal with NMC. Let's move on and get younger. Demko is ready to take the reins.
-
Okay so Tampa is quite cap-strapped and we are in a position to capitalize.
They have 5mil in cap space to sign a combination of whatever 5 RFA's and 5 UFA's they want to keep.
These RFA's include Stephens, Cirelli, Verhaeghe, Cernak, and Sergachev. Some of those players are worth the picks.
Shall we offer-sheet?

1) You have to give an attractive enough offer for that other player to sign (else all you do is end up making an enemy and can except an offer sheet from the Bolts in retaliation when might least expect it).
2) We don't exactly have a ton of cap space either (it's like going 'all in' a poker hand when you only have $100 left).

Marky's out for 4 weeks
-
I may be the minority here, but I think the Oilers won the deadline. They didn't do anything flashy, but they added to their weak areas without giving up anything significant.
Solid if you ask me.
We'll see how much of a difference it makes.
-
Tyson Barrie has NOT been traded.
-
If Benning trades some prospects and possibly flips some roster players to acquire a Wayne Simmonds and a younger RD to fill the top 4, will you be satisfied?
Personally, I would.
We have the assets to trade. It's not like they're all going to make it down the road anyway.
I think a playoff run this year is very important for our core and I'm fully expecting Benning to add this trade deadline.

Oh man yes please @King Heffy.
-
Rumours of Benning talking to NJ.
Since we know they're selling, I wonder if Benning is not actually going after Simmonds, but rather Subban.
With say half of his salary retained, it would be a more reasonable acquisition and not as expensive as other RD's out there.
Benning has shown interest in the past.
Just a thought.

Saw in the paper today, the Canucks players love this trade. Toffoli is a very good player, puts pressure on CGY and EDM. The players could care less about losing Madden and the 2nd. I tend to agree. Let's get into the playoffs and have some fun. If Benning can manage an upgrade on D, I really like our chances.

i tried hugging a teddy bear; it lost its stuffing.
My dog is happy though. He shared in the shredding of said stuffy. Now I’m better.
-
I still can't believe we acquired Toffoli. This last stretch of hockey is going to be very fun to watch, guy's a goat.

@NUCKER67 Absolutely. Always lit us up.
I don't see why Toffoli wouldn't sign unless he's adamant on maximum dollar and term.
-
@Trebreh that'll come in the playoffs.
-
Do we trade Tanev at the deadline? Or aim to sign him again?
He would be a valuable addition to a cup contender and we would clear up cap space while potentially adding a mid-low 1st rounder or a prospect. Considering it's the trade deadline, the odds of receiving maximum value are high.
I feel like Stecher could fit well with Edler again, and we could give Rafferty a shot, but it's a risk for sure.
Edler - Stecher
Hughes - Myers
Benn - Rafferty
-
Congrats to Virtanen matching his career-high in points, 25 games sooner than last year. Set for a prominent career year. Best part is he's only 23 and still has lots of room to grow.
-
Time to switch things up:
Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen
Leivo - Horvat - Boeser
Roussel - Sutter - Gaudette
Schaller - Beagle - Motte
-
Nichuskin's still available. Sign him for cheap, former 10th overall pick and he's only 24. Has hit roughly 30 points almost every season except the last one. May just need a fresh start with a young team. Could be a steal, just saying. Free asset.

@Alflives blame Dallas

Guys look what Benning has built. The majority of our players have fair contracts.
The average age of our group is 26-27. We have a stocked prospect cupboard. I think it's fair to say we'll have some camp surprises each year from here on out.
Overall, I could be wrong, but IMO, we're very close to our cup window.
-
TSN is literally saying Gardiner is better than Myers, and criticizing our roster saying, "Who's going to score?", "Not enough skill", "I don't think they have the creativity and skill yet".
My god lol.
-
At this point, how do you not give Binnington the Calder?
-
Quinn Hughes will step into the NHL seamlessly. Can't wait.

@Roberts it's just my prediction based on what I see. His skating is NHL ready and almost dominant from my view. He'll be able to step in and move the puck seamlessly. We'll see what happens. Should be joining the team before playoffs.
-
@Roberts Haha yeah he's been underwhelming. I still think he can put it together though.
He has his moments once in a while lol.
-
I'm a bit late to the party but I was at the Young Stars in Penticton and seeing Pettersson in person was absolutely unreal. The 8-2 win was so much fun to watch. His bar down goal was off his stick and in the net almost simultaneously. He's making the Canucks, I have no doubt in my mind.
-
Just for fun, say a team offer sheets Baertschi...
Signing a contract valued between $2,029,660 to $4,059,322 per year = 2nd round pick.
Signing a contract valued between $4,059,323 to $6,088,980 per year = 1st and 3rd round picks.
I'd let him walk either way.
What do you think?

RFA's: Baertschi, Virtanen, Granlund, Pouliot, Stecher.
UFA's: Dowd and Archibald.
If we sign a big name UFA like Tavares, that depletes our cap space significantly.
We have $22 million to work with.
I think we can make it work, but if someone offer sheets Baertschi $4-5 million a year, I don't think it's worth it when we can replace his production in free agency or from an upcoming prospect like Pettersson.
It would actually be a great scenario IMO.
-
IMO, if I'm Benning, I go all-in on Bouchard. 7th Overall + Tanev for 5th Overall + 2nd round pick. Arizona does that trade, no problem.

@coastal.view it's impossible to say who they would be targeting specifically. However, EVERY team, regardless of where they are drafting with the picks they have, scout and rank the players 1-31 in every round so that in the event that an opportunity arises where they might be able to pick a player they covet they normally wouldn't be.. .they have a basis for negotiating.
Are you saying that Benning et al haven't done their homework on the T5 and if an opportunity presented itself wouldn't be ready to make a deal to get a specific player? Same premise applies. Stop taking the pessimist narrative on damn near every proposal as if it somehow makes you appear more conscientious; it actually makes you appear contemptuous, arrogant and frankly annoying. -
reality sucks for you i guess?
makes you unhappy? annoys you?
makes you think i'm a pessimist? rather then a realist?
and thanks for all those other attributes
i'm sure you can come up with even more
if that makes you happy
so tell me
how many of these great proposals are realized ?
well under 1% in my experience
but you prefer fantasy land
so have fun
-
@coastal.view proof is in the pudding I suppose, thanks for proving my point. The point of posting proposals is not to be as factually correct with the reality of the deals that actually get done in the NHL, it's to suggest in a fan's opinion what might seem like a plausible scenario, and to foster constructive discussion.
So, taking that context into account, apply your behavior and overall perspective as it applies to this scenario, wouldn't it be better to provide some actual discussion about who you think at 7 the Islanders might be interested in (personally I haven't the foggiest idea, but I do know that NHL GMs do their homework and are always prepared to make deals if it makes sense), instead of going Debbie Downer on a proposal in order to feed your egotistical, self absorbed need to "be right"? At least that's the assumption I have when reading your responses to not just proposals but just about anything.
You are incredibly disagreeable, combative and seemingly incapable of fostering constructive discussion. Just an observation, take it for what it's worth (which being on the internet, isn't much if anything at all. Hard to say how people perceive the things I write about them).

Where's Kesler's reaction? Does he care?
