  1. I think if anyone can do what Ben Hutton did last year, it's Stetcher. I didn't get to watch the YST this year, but his highlights were impressive. Juolevi looked out of place on many occasions, while Stetcher seemed comfortable and capable of making NHL plays. I'm no expert, but I'm going to predict he makes the team easily like Hutton did.
  2. Hey everyone check out these highlights. Someone put together a better compilation of his second half. Worth the watch. This kid's going to be a stud!
  3. No matter what, he'll be sniping goals. It's always possible he won't become a superstar but he looks VERY promising. It's ultimately up to him though.
  4. Guaranteed 30% off their next visit.
  5. That's great news! Pedan - Tryamkin I'm giddy if these guys end up playing together. We already witnessed what Pedan can do against teams like LA, now just add Tryamkin to the mix. They don't need to put up big points; as long as they can shut down top lines and clear the crease for the goaltender (down the road of course), we have a bright, bright future.
  6. . The Draft was very deep. So deep that there was a good chance of finding a late round gem. I don't think anyone had any idea what we had, but Benning knew. Boeser is actually very well rounded at both ends. He can snipe the puck from anywhere on the ice. His vision and release are so good that sometimes the goals he scores make your jaw drop. His passing and defensive play are very underrated IMO. Check out his highlights this year if you haven't already. He had a decent WJC considering it was his first one. Even though he didnt score like we hoped he would; not many kids jump into a tournament like that and play first line minutes, let alone top 6 minutes. I think the only criticism of the guy is that he could improve his skating. But man oh man, if he does that and gets good at dangling guys, he will be a scary forward to play against.
  7. It is looking very strong for sure. I've said this before, people just need to be patient with the guy. It's hilarious how quick some people write him off (or any prospect we have) based on any mistake he makes. He has progressed well this year, and we should all be ECSTATIC about that. You mentioned he's improved his defensive game since the WJC. I'd venture he's been great defensively all year, but is now beginning to take more chances to score. His speed is so deceptive, and his physical play is like that of an NHL veteran. I really don't understand why people bitch about this guy, he's going to be an absolute beauty. He's developing in the perfect environment, he has ALL the tools, and he's only NINETEEN. He has more than enough time to put it all together. Doubters, give him 2-3 years and you'll all be very surprised with how far he's progressed.
  8. For sure, his skating definitely needs improvement. He is, however, young and has all sorts of time to bring it up to NHL standards. With that said, his puck skills, passing, and shot make him one hell of a prospect to have. I'm happy with his tourney, based on the lone fact that he played on the first line with Matthews for a good portion of the entire tournament. I don't think many players walk into their first WJC U-18 and play on the first line (I may be wrong). But that's an enticing piece to be excited about. Btw my previous post wasn't necessarily directed towards you. Just fans that dissect a player too much and ignore the glaring positives.
  9. People are complaining? ...Why am I surprised lol
  10. Sure you can make the move I guess. I'm trying to say that he pulled away from the defenders under pressure. You don't do that unless you have some hockey IQ. Never thought I'd be arguing this topic Furthermore, I never stated he had "high hockey IQ". I'm simply pointing this out because every time I visit the "Jake Virtanen Talk thread", I shake my head at all the posters ripping on this kid for any damn mistake he makes. Concluding he has no hockey IQ, future fourth liner, blah blah. I'm sick of it. He's 19. And no I haven't read any of your posts. I mean, I probably have. But nothing memorable. If you're referencing to something specific, please post it and we'll discuss.
  11. That was a nice goal. Impressed with how he chipped it to the side, pulling away from everyone. All the people on here bitching about his hockey IQ, that was a very hockey-smart go-to move under pressure.
  12. Bad game for Canada, but I thought Virtanen played a decent game. - Regarding the PP, I think he works better on the left-side of the boards instead of the net front presence. - When Virtanen got mad, he showed why we drafted him and how effective he can be when he uses his body to cause turnovers. For whatever reason, he's not putting in that serious effort consistently like last year. To me its pretty evident this year's team is very weak and we don't appear to have the drive needed to win gold. But who knows, the real test starts vs Finland.
  13. See how dominant Virtanen can be when he's physical.
  14. If there was a time for Virtanen to wake up and play his game, it would be now.
  15. To anyone that watched the US game today, did Boeser have any good opportunities? Also how was he defensively? Cheers
  16. Yeah but who knows what's really going on. Look at his WJC last year, he had zero pressure on him to perform and he was a dominant hitter and put up points as a depth player. I don't want to be the guy making excuses for him, but its true. There's much more pressure on him to score this year (being the only NHL player on the team). Look at Lazar last year, he was in the same spot. Obviously different types of players, but I would say he was fairly underwhelming during the first half of the tournament. Maybe Virtanen needs more time to adjust to the junior style of play? Who knows. I wouldn't go as far as saying he's a bust (as some are suggesting), but he has been absolutely underwhelming. Maybe we all had too high of expectations for the kid? I'm not sure about that either. I think he's focusing too much on producing, and he's getting in his own way. He has a unique ability to cause turnovers with his size and speed and right now he's not using his tools to his advantage. I'm hoping he realizes (sooner than later) that he needs to continue playing the style that got him to where he his today in order to succeed. It's glaringly obvious that he's forcing himself to play differently.
  17. I disagree somewhat because he has made nice passes to guys cross-ice. But I completely agree in tight. It would add a great asset to his game and make him much more effective.

  19. I wonder what this thread will be like 1-3 years from now. Virtanen is 19 games into his NHL career. Soak that in. NINETEEN. And people here are doubting his potential. He's potted 4 points and thrown 53 hits in those 19 games, but yet people here are doubting his potential. The kid turned 19 four months ago. I'm very curious what exactly some people are expecting him to do. We didn't draft McDavid.
  20. It's really not. Jake is completely capable of playing pro hockey. He may not be great yet, but he certainly wont reach another level unless he plays with players better than himself. End of story.
